More About the Author

Deb Dunham is the emerging voice for today's tweens. She is passionate about nurturing the self-esteem and independence of young people and believes that every child is capable and valuable. Recognizing the lack of resources for tweens and their parents, Deb founded True Inner Strength to provide workshops and supportive products aimed at guiding young people toward a higher vision of themselves.

When Deb's eldest daughter was entering tweenhood, the family moved, facing numerous challenges in the transition. One night, as Deb offered comfort and encouragement, her daughter said, "I wish you could write down everything you said so I could remember because it made me feel better." Thus, the encouragement journal was born. That journal evolved into the Tween You and Me book and journal for preteens.

Deb's background has been one of healer and advocate for all ages, as a Physical Therapist, Birth Doula, and mother of three children, including two tweens. To all her roles, Deb brings a balance of creativity, inspiration, and practicality that motivates all who work with her. Together with her husband, Tim, Deb nurtures her 3 children north of Boston, MA. To contact Deb, e-mail info@trueinnerstrength.com

This book is a must have if you have children approaching the "Tween" stage of life. I loved the insight, positive self talk the celebration of personal differences and the kindness to oneself. These are messages that we all can learn from at any age. I found myself saying some phrases to myself. I am buying one for all of my friends with daughters. I will be waiting until a book for boys comes out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Once a tween, now a teacher, October 28, 2009
By
This review is from: Tween You & Me: A Preteen Guide to Becoming Your Best Self (Paperback)
As a teacher, reading this book helped me think about the way I guide my 92 tweens (7th graders) everyday. Every topic brought up in the book has been brought up either in class or to me personally by a student. It helped me assess how I talked to them about the situation and how I could better explain things in relation to their lives in the future. Some of the topics discussed that I hear almost on a daily basis from my students are siblings getting more things or attention than them, families fighting and how they can't tell friends because they think their friend's families don't fight, as well as self-esteem concerns. Every tween should read this book so they don't feel alone in the world. I can't think of one that would not be able to relate to Tween You and Me. I also feel that parents should read this book so they can think back to what it was like when they were young and be able to truly understand what they're Tween is going through at both home and school. It gives so many answers to the statements "I don't know why my son/daughter is acting this why" or "I don't know what to do with my child anymore." Great, easy, fun, and interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Prompted discussion with granddaughter, October 14, 2009
This review is from: Tween You & Me: A Preteen Guide to Becoming Your Best Self (Paperback)
I was delighted to come across "Tween you and Me". I read it from cover to cover and wished I had access to such wisdom when I was a young girl. I immediately purchased the book and the journal for each of my granddaughters. It helped me to open a dialogue with them and we have continued our discussions on the joys and difficulties of growing up.

Here's what my granddaughter had to say:

This book was really good. It helped me to look at myself in a more positive way. I am using the journal because it helps me like the way I am.

Amy, (age 12) from Phoenix, AZ
