5.0 out of 5 stars A SELECTION OF SERMONS WITH A VARIETY OF VIEWPOINTS, December 21, 2011
This review is from: Twelve Christmas Sermons (Paperback)
Charles Haddon (C.H.) Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British Particular Baptist preacher who is still known as the "Prince of Preachers". He was a strong figure in the Reformed Baptist tradition, and a strong opponent of the liberal theological tendencies in the Church of his day.

He also changed his view of Christmas over the years; he began (Pg. 67) by despising the present "ecclesiastical arrangement called 'Christmas,'" as he rejected the Roman Catholic Mass, and he regarded it as "superstitious" (Pg. 91). He also despised (Pg. 9) the drunkenness which even Christians often engaged in on this day.

However, he also advised that if we strove to be "kindly affectionate" to others during the season, in which case it would be the merriest Christmas we have ever had in our lives. (Pg. 10)
