Against backgrounds of turquoise, magenta, and purple fabrics, the familiar lyrics are printed alongside highly embellished appliqu‚d and needlework illustrations. Eastern motifs or themes are incorporated, such as "ten pipers piping" pictured as turbaned snake charmers and "five gold rings" on the trunk and legs of an elephant. I first found this book at the local library. Two years in a row, my kids requested we find it around Christmas time and check it out. Then they'd insist we renew it two or three times. This year I finally bought it because they and I both liked it so much.

The pictures are so unique--made by photographing intricate collections of ribbons, buttons, sequins, beads and felt animals/people representing the 12 Days of Christmas. They have a sort of East Indian/Asian look to them that is charming and refreshing. The book also comes with a CD to sing along with the book.

If you're looking for a unique and fun Christmas book for your family to treasure for years, this is it!
