Mindless, pleasurable fluff, April 18, 2009
This review is from: The Twelve Days of Christmas (Paperback)
This is one of those Regency romances that does not tax the brain. You know by the end of the first chapter exactly how it will end, and after a few more chapters, you realize who the villain is. But it's fun. It's set at Christmas, and who doesn't like a Christmas romance? The characters are fairly typical, and you don't have to work hard to enjoy it.
Genevieve has been left holding the financial bag of her family after her father's death, and she needs to make some serious decisions that will not go over well with her mother and younger sister. They retreat to the family's country house, where she is reunited, in a way, with a childhood chum, the mysterious Alan. He bets her that he can give her 12 gifts representative of the 12 days of Christmas, without spending any money. If he does, she has to marry him. If he doesn't, he has to deed some land to her in perpetuity (or something like that - it's really beside the point). There is some intrigue, a couple of local vicars, and romance in the midst of the English countryside at Christmas.
Turn your brain off from daily stress, read this book, and enjoy it.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas" was cleverly written and chock full of humor. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the unexpected. The characters are well developed and I look forward to reading "Catch of the Season."
