Book Description

January 8, 2008
Knit your way through the four seasons with 36 inspired clothing, tableware, bedding, and accessory projects that aren’t just winter-worthy.

Everyone loves a soft handmade hat in January or an après-ski sweater to wear in the lodge, but from Twelve Months of Knitting you’ll also learn to surprise your friends and family with other equally thoughtful gifts, like a spring-break bikini or beach cover-up, a floral shopping bag in April, a lovely knitted table setting for a summer meal, a kimono wrap for the first brisk days of fall, or a flashy holiday cardigan.

Whether you’re just learning to knit and purl your first basic winter cap or are interested in perfecting an advanced skill like intarsia or lace, you’ll find tips and techniques throughout that will hone your current level and help push you to the next one. A handy planner is included to help you figure out when to begin a season-specific project (so you’ll know how many days you’ll need to finish in time). Each month of the year offers three projects–one for beginners, another for intermediates, and a third for the experienced–all in a range of sizes.

While thoroughly detailed in its instructions and illustrations, Twelve Months of Knitting challenges old and new knitters alike to embrace knitting as a pastime without seasonal boundaries.

More About the Author

I have been knitting since I was 14, designing for my own business, Baa Baa Knits (BBK) since 1990 and designing for major yarn companies and magazines since 1994. I learned a lot under the expert guidance of the Patons Design Studio, when I worked for them for 4 years. Before that, I spent years in the retail industry as a Human Resource manager. All that time, I knitted my own designs and sold them at craft shows and boutiques around Ontario.

I have had designs published in magazines Vogue Knitting, Family Circle Knitting, Better Homes and Garden's Knit It, Interweave Knits and Knitter's Digest (all very exciting for me). I also have freelance designed for Patons, Bernat, Classic Elite Yarns, Lion Brand and others. I also worked as a consultant and designer, on a book titled "Maran Illustrated Knitting & Crochet" by Maran Graphics.

In Winter 07/08, a division of Random House called Potter Crafts published my first solo book "12 Months of Knitting", photographed by the lovely, kind and super-talented Jennifer Burrell of Toronto (many of those shots are used on my site. You will be able to tell hers from mine;).

5.0 out of 5 stars lots of great projects, July 31, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Twelve Months of Knitting: Improve Your Knitting Skills Month by Month with 36 Seasonal Projects (Paperback)
Most of the 36 projects use #4 yarns (standard weights) or worsted weight. My favorites are vest in multicolored yarn, child's cardi, snuggle wrap in variegated yarn, bikini (with the schematic and done in cotton classic), lace cardi with some intarsia, man's cable cardi, bandeau and bikini (schematics), tied sleeveless cardi with cables, lacey summer shawl, fairisle vest, kimono wrap with sleeves. Some very nice arans or cabled sweaters, scarves, hat, small bag. Each pattern has good photo in color, difficulty level and schematic. No charts for the arans or cables which is a minus. Helpful tips and intro material to each pattern plus a weekly planner for those knitters who want to make everything in one year. This is exactly the kind of book that isn't being published anymore. Instead we get a book of 12 or 20 patterns or similar amounts. 36 is very generous and hopefully the buying public will respond to this book. Really includes something for everyone.
