Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The BookArc: Turn your Macbook into a desktop.

BookArc from TwelveSouth

Twelve South's BookArc is a simple, elegant stand that literally turns your portable computer into a mini tower. Slide your MacBook or MacBook Pro into the BookArc and park it at the back of your desk to free up space, or next to your Apple Cinema Display and you'll have a beautiful sight.

Three reasons why you need a BookArc

1
BookArc
2
BookArc fits
3
BookArc enhances

Create a Zen-like workspace

With a footprint of just 10 x 4 inches, BookArc takes up a fraction of the space your MacBook Pro uses laying flat. Soft, silicone footpads keep it stable and free your desk from marks or scratches.

One Arc fits all

To ensure the perfect fit, BookArc includes three different sized scratch-free, silicone cushions. These gently grip the various MacBook and MacBook Pro models and ensures the perfect fit right out of the box. Cushions are super easy to install and remove making it easy for BookArc to switch from one MacBook model to another.

Enhance performance

You can actually boost the performance of your MacBook or MacBook Pro by running it closed in the BookArc. That's because your system automatically dedicates 100% of its video memory to the external display rather than splitting it with the built-in display. You’ll see a noticeable speed increase when working in many graphics-intensive applications.

...And more reasons:

A Work of Arc.

Carved from strong, heavy gauge steel, BookArc vertically holds any MacBook from MacBook Air to the 17-inch MacBook Pro. Park your BookArc-cradled MacBook next to your LED Cinema Display and you’ll have the coolest desktop/laptop set-up your desk has ever seen.

Features:

  • Get a cleaner, less-cluttered workspace
  • Three silicone inserts for a perfect fit
  • Compatible with all MacBook, MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models

About Twelve South

Twelve South is here to create beautifully designed accessories exclusively for Apple computers. We know Mac users. We are Mac users. We feel it’s time to stop settling for PC accessories that are painted white and passed off as "Mac compatible". It’s time for a company to focus on Mac accessories exclusively.

Product Description

Vertical laptop stand for MacBook, MacBook Pro and and MacBook Air. BookArc helps you free up valuable real estate on your desk, giving you a cleaner, less cluttered, Zen-like workspace. With a footprint of 10-by-4 inches, BookArc takes up a fraction of the space your MacBook wastes just lying around. And while it takes your MacBook to new heights, BookArc rests on soft, silicone footpads that keep it from leaving any unwanted surface marks or scratches on your desk. Along with a stunning design and improved ergonomics, BookArc can actually boost the performance of your laptop. When your MacBook is running closed in the BookArc, your machine will automatically dedicate 100% of its video memory to the external display - instead of splitting it with the internal display. You’ll enjoy a noticeable speed increase when working in Photoshop, Aperture, iPhoto and other graphics-intensive applications. So can a notebook stand really speed up your MacBook? If it’s a BookArc, the answer is yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best stand for a MacBook. December 28, 2009
By Gregory
At first, I thought this stand was a bit overpriced. After I bought it and realized that it was made from solid metal, I'm willing to forgive the price. This item is solid and won't be breaking anytime soon.

I use it for my 13" MacBook Pro. One of my initial concerns was whether it would still hold my MBP since I have the Speck hardshell cover on it. Fortunately, it comes with three different silicone inserts for the stand and I'm using the largest one without any difficulty at all.

Put simply, it is a great stand and well worth the price I paid for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars 98% perfect September 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
In spite of the high price tag, I bought the BookArc to clean up my desk space in my home office. As you can tell from the pictures and Twelve South's reputation, it's definitely an attractive accessory to have sitting around. It's also clearly functional. It's a pretty simple task, and it does it well, with my 13" MacBook Pro.

I say it's 98% perfect, because it has two flaws. First, let's be honest -- the price is a bit ridiculous for a piece of metal with a slot. Second, if you place your laptop into the BookArc as shown in all the marketing pictures (i.e., with the hinge down), newer models will potentially overheat, since they vent through the hinge. I had read something about that in passing but forgot about it until yesterday, when I heard my laptop's fan going like there was no tomorrow. I felt under the BookArc and, sure enough, it was very hot. I simply flipped the laptop over so that the hinge faced up, though, and the problem was solved. It's just something to keep in mind.

There is no denying that Twelve South does a great job creating accessories which match any piece of Apple hardware. This BookArc is no exception. It's solid - formed from a heavy piece of metal. The inserts to hold your notebooks are firm yet gentle enough for the exterior of your notebooks. I only wish that the inserts would actually hold my MacBook Pro closer to vertical. You know... Just like the marketing photos the company uses to sell these things. I've tried each of the included inserts and all of them have a gap on either side. Because of this, my MacBook Pro sites at an angle. If I fidget with the stand inserts by pressing them against the notebook, it will stand vertical for a little bit before the notebook slides and falls back from vertical. For the price, I would have expected the company would test the stand to make sure the marketing photos actually depict what consumers will actually get.
