Excellent Book about the Alcoholics Anonymous Program,
By A Customer
This review is from: Twelve Steps to Destruction: Codependency/Recovery Heresies (Paperback)
Hats off to the Bobgans! This is an excellent book about the spiritual perils of the 12 step program as compared to Biblical Christianity. A must read for Christians involved in the program or contemplating joining AA.

The false religion of the 12-Step program,
By cstlbry@ix.netcom.com (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twelve Steps to Destruction: Codependency/Recovery Heresies (Paperback)
This book is a must for all Christians and especially those who are seeking to find help in the numerous 12-Step recovery programs. The Bobgans go into detail about the occult beginnings of Alcoholics Anonymous, Bill Wilson's "spiritual" awakening, and the methods he used to write the 12-Step program (which is the basis for the majority of recovery/codependency groups). The real definition of alcoholism is explained as a sin, not a sickness/disease. Freedom comes only when a drunk confesses and repents of his/her sin of drunkenness and receives forgiveness from the Lord Jesus Christ. Then, and only then, will he/she find salvation and freedom from the bondage of sin. This book goes into detail about codependency programs (all based on the 12-Steps). Some people may be offended by the content of this book, but if one calls himself/herself a Christian, and truly loves the Lord Jesus Christ and is committed to His Word, the 12-Step program will have no part in his/her life. A real eye-opener!

Excellent expose of yet another false religion,

This review is from: Twelve Steps to Destruction: Codependency/Recovery Heresies (Paperback)
Its a sin and a shame that the church of Jesus Christ is so entangled with AA. Countless churches open themeselves up to this group and partner with them in promoting the idea that drunkeness is somehow a disease needing healing rather than a sin needing to be repented of. The Bobgans do an excellent job with this book of exposing this false religion for what it is and of calling the true Christian who may be struggling in this area to repentance and freedom in Christ. We need more Christians as brave and bold as the Bobgans in this watered down, Bibilcally ignorant era of the church in which we live.

For those who say the Bobgan's are clueless to what alcoholism is all about, I certainly am NOT. This book is truly a holy spirit driven labor of love and I could not devour it fast enough. The Bobgans have a thorough understanding of the Scriptures and how it is sufficient for all of the issues of life. The research they have done is extensive in this field of psychology ..it's historical roots to present day beliefs including so called "christian" psychologists and why their theories and programs are the exact OPPOSITE of what the God of the Bible teaches.
Are we called to live for self or die to self? Are we, at our core, unrealized goodness that needs to be awakened or born with a sinful nature that needs to be recognized and in need of a Savior? It is a call for Christians to get back to the Bible and discover that God's LIVING and ACTIVE Word is all we need for total healing and transformation. Unfortunately, the Christians I have met or talked with that defend the 12 step programs for their addictions of many colors are painfully ignorant of God's word with the exception of a few memorized verses. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to know the truth about the big business of psychology & it's recovery "programs", it's faulty scientific labels of "illness and disease" but mostly how the Bobgan's clarify that it is impossible to unite 2 beliefs in opposition to one another and call it the truth that heals! Discernment and seeking truth in ALL things is something every Christian is commanded to exercise. "SEE TO IT that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on CHRIST." -Colossians 2:8 My prayer for all of you, that are as messed up and as hurting as I was, is to seek Him in spirit and truth. "Sanctify them BY Your truth. Your WORD is truth". -John 17:17 "Jesus has not called us to work the Twelve Steps. He calls us to live in Him and walk in the Spirit." -Barbara Goodin

This is the most bizzarre book I've ever seen,
By A Customer
This review is from: Twelve Steps to Destruction: Codependency/Recovery Heresies (Paperback)
The book is jam-packed full of references many of them Biblical. The authors go to great lengths to illustrate how the recovery movement is leading its member straight to hell. (Burning flames of hell adorn front cover). The hell is not the living hell of endless meetings and unproven disease theory, but the fire and brimstone kind that wicked religious zealots tried to scare us with as little kids. Some quotes: However, the virtues of many people labeled "codependent" are clouded by sin and their good intentions have turned sour. One woman is thus described this way: She devoted her life to making them happy, but she didn't succeed. Usuallly, she feels angry and unappreciated for her efforts, and her family feels angry at her. People wonder why women tolerate bad relationships for so long -- why they stay married to men who drink excessively and beat them. Remaining in a miserable relationship and hoping against hope that it will improve is now considered a symptom of codependency. However, that scenario has existed since the curse Eve brought upon herself and all of her daughters. The explanation is found in Genesis 3:16: Unto the woman He said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children: and thy desire shall be to thy husband and he shall rule over thee. While feminists and the wisdom of men have tried to deny or get rid of this curse, only Jesus can turn the curse into a blessing. Another quote, this time disparaging the therapeutic process, for "dredging up old stuff from the past" It is VERY POSSIBLE that people who remember verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse or incest by regressing are remembering an illusion or a distortion of reality, a destructive suggestion accidentally placed there by another person, or created through a combination of stimuli, such as from a nightmare, or worse yet, implanted by demonic influence. End quote. did you catch that? Demonic infuence? These people are serious... These are just two small examples. The book is replete with ominous warnings against choosing any Higher Power who is NOT Jesus, as Jesus is the only savior. Therefore all recovery people will go straight to HELL unless they pass through the strait gate Jesus describes in the Bible. I can't even begin transcribing the comedy that is in this book. As a collector of odd 12-step-related paraphanelia and literature, this book takes the cake.

This is just about the stupidest book I have ever read! No wonder the shipping cost was more than I paid for the book. The author{s} are so full of themselves, that they could use a good 12 step program! The outright deception used is contrary to what "Jesus" really taught. Jesus said; I am the Truth! One good example is the way that they spin the reality of acceptance, into claiming that this is a statement of faith...They should just accept the fact that they don't know what they are talking about, know nothing about addiction, and that the true process of a 12 step program is a path to enlightenment, and the Spirit of GOD. This is a destructive writing and and shameful display of arrogance, self aggrandizement, and proof that some Christians can be fooled by false teaching.
12 step progams have helped many suffering people rejoin their church and find freedom from addictive behavior. Techniques of brainwashing deprive their subjects of food, sleep, family, and social network. 12 step programs strive for a balance in life, want you to eat and sleep correctly, and reconnect with family and your belief system. Anyone should be able to see that this is a confusing bunch of five dollars words strung together, with the authors hoping you might believe that they have some type of divine authority on addiction.
