Great heart wrenching story of the pain and trials Michael faced growing with the shame of molestation hanging over his head and weighing down his heart. Great story of redemption and where he found his peace, strength, his ability to forgive and Who changed his life from misery to joy. Don't miss this one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Story of Angst & Redemption
Michael Reagan writes the kind of autobiography one would expect from a radio talk show host -- part soul-bearing, part diatribe. This is not a particularly well written book, so don't wait around for the Pulitzer, but it's a quick read so you won't hate yourself for having spent the time reading it. It it is a heartfelt account of a man who has finally battled his...

Michael Reagan has opened his life and the horrendous experiences he endured enroute to adulthood, respect and prominence. His was a tragic "journey." Yet every painful moment was a catalyst for his ultimate discovery; that is, the power of love. Well written. Inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Touching, October 2, 2004
This review is from: Twice Adopted: An Important Social Commentator Speaks to the Cultural Ailments Threatening America Today (Hardcover)
I picked up this book in the bookstore today and read halfway through it while I stood there. I was so touched by Michael's story, for I could relate to so many of the emotions he felt as a child. I also appreciate the fact that he made positive suggestions about ways to help children who have faced the same sensitive issues that he has faced. The book is well written, and I higly recommend it to hurting people, as a means of better understanding, that they are not alone and to others who need to know how to commiserate with people about issues, that they have never faced.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book On How To Raise Children (or How Not To), January 15, 2005
This review is from: Twice Adopted: An Important Social Commentator Speaks to the Cultural Ailments Threatening America Today (Hardcover)
I could hardly put this book down. I learned so much more than I had ever known before. The feelings adoptive children go thru, how molestation affects children and the way chidren think and feel when they do not have their parents in their lives full time. He gives so many valuable tips for parents to make sure their children know they are loved, and how to teach children about molestation to hopefully prevent it happening to their own.
This is truly a must read for parents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twice Adopted - Honest and Uplifting, October 26, 2004

This review is from: Twice Adopted: An Important Social Commentator Speaks to the Cultural Ailments Threatening America Today (Hardcover)
Twice Adopted is a remarkable book on many levels. First, it deals with the issue of adoption, then with the traumatic issue of child-molestation, with being the son of well-known parents, with being an angry young man, with finding redemptive love and finally with the liberation of confession.

In telling his story, Michael Reagan addresses topics all of us deal with in some way, at some time. By telling it from a child's perspective, he takes each reader back into his or her own childhood as we relate to what he must have felt. In the process, he challenges us to think more profoundly about how we influence the children with whose care we have been entrusted.

Best of all, he leaves us with the gift of hope. No matter what we have experienced, regardless of mistakes we might have made - if we are still breathing God has not given up on us yet. Read this book and let it change the way you look at your past, live with your present and take hold of at your future.

This is a heartfelt book written from a perspective of being adopted first by Ronald Reagan, then by God. Michael writes a beautiful tribute to his family and how much he was loved by his father and how welcome he felt when he was with him.

I was touched by the stories of President Reagan's last days. I will save that for you to read, because if you cried during the Reagan funeral, a tear will well up in your eye when you read this.

More than anything, Michael writes about hope in a potentially dark world. His personal experience becomes a lesson for us all at how serious we need to take whom we leave our children with. The lesson is poinant and not so graphic as to upset the reader.

I like this book and recommend it heartily.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Read for those who work with children & everyone else, October 19, 2004
This review is from: Twice Adopted: An Important Social Commentator Speaks to the Cultural Ailments Threatening America Today (Hardcover)
Michael Reagan tells his story from a child's point of view---he tells about how it felt to learn he was adopted, about his parents' divorce---how it felt and what he needed. He shares the untold story of why his parents---Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman---divorced. Theirs is a heartbreaking story that did not have to end in divorce. He also shares his story of violation at the hands of a trusted mentor and, through this story, he gives valuable insights into the debate about same-sex marriage. This book is full of wisdom and it should be "required reading" for teachers, social workers, counselors, parents.... and everyone else. He helps explain what's behind some of the out-of-control rage that can propel teens to terrorize and murder their classmates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Interesting Read, January 13, 2005
This review is from: Twice Adopted: An Important Social Commentator Speaks to the Cultural Ailments Threatening America Today (Hardcover)
Michael Reagan does a fine job of giving life lessons through his own personal life and practical wisdom and suggestions in "Twice Adopted." Reagan is also a Christian and most importantly lifts up the transformation and renewal that is found in our Savior Jesus. The title gives that fact away from the outset. Throughout the book Reagan goes from the pain in his childhood to delving into practical suggestions for your own life or raising kids. I am so glad he printed his eulogy to his father Ronald Reagan as well. I felt it was quite powerful and uplifting.

My favorite part of the book is when he talked about his own life, more so than his suggestions and wisdom. Obviously that is quite important, but wasn't the attention grabber either. I will say that Michael Reagan is a unique and passionate individual and I love his radio show when I have the time to listen. Another strength of the book is that we get to know of his mother Jane Wyman a little bit and some of his own family history that he did not know about until later in life. Michael Reagan is a genuine and honest man, and I thank him for writing this book.

Michael Reagan opened my eyes and warmed my heart repeatedly as I read this book. While I am on opposite sides of the fence to his conservative political views, I was pleased that his book is written in a way I could relate and respond to.

I learned a lot from this well-written book.
