About the Author

Harold Morris began writing in 1984 when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. He wanted to use his last few months to share the story of his life: falsely convicted of armed robbery and murder at age 29, he spent the next nine years behind bars, struggling to survive in what was widely recognized as the worst prison in the United States - Georgia State Penitentiary. But inside prison he found something unexpected; he found hope.

After almost a decade behind bars, Harold Morris was paroled in 1978. He finally received a commutation from the state of Georgia, restoring all of his individual and civil liberties, in 1981, on the day before he was graduated from college.

Once again a free man, he dedicated his life to speaking to millions in the United States and around the world about the dangers of drugs and alcohol and associating with the wrong crowd - the very things that had landed him in prison. For years he shared his tragic story, emphasizing the importance of making the right choices early in life.

In 1991, thirteen years after his release from prison, Harold Morris received the Vice Presidential Humanitarian Award of Honor in Washington, D.C. for his contribution to the lives of youth and prison inmates.

Unshackled is his third book. His first two books, Twice Pardoned and Beyond the Barriers, were both best sellers with over 1 million copies in print, and his books have been translated into eight languages.

Mr. Morris has also produced a video, Twice Pardoned, which was broadcast in over 60 major U.S. cities and deals with the subject matter from his book, The Law of the Harvest. He currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twice Pardoned, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Twice Pardoned (Hardcover)
Having read this book helps me better deal with the fact that my husband is in prison. Harold Morris gives a real account of the day-to-day life in the inmates. The book is a must to share with anyone who is effected by the prison system as well as kids who don't know the full consequences of their actions.

5.0 out of 5 stars must read book, November 9, 2004
This review is from: Twice Pardoned (Hardcover)
It's been at least 5 years since I have read this book, and I have since loaned it to a friend, who moved out of town, and I didn't receive the book back. At first I couldn't remember the name of the book or the author for sure, but I kept thinking and remembered Harold Morris' name, so I found the book on Amazon! I am going to order this book for my husband (who doesn't usually like to read), because it was so good. I have read hundreds of books in my life, and this is not like any other. It is definately a life-changing book. No other book has had this kind of effect on me. My husband just has to read it, and so do you. I wouldn't normally think I would be interested in a book on this topic, but it gives you insight into the world of a prisoner, and one who gave his life over to Jesus Christ. I have even been able to explain to my 5 year old daughter that when God says to "love your neighbor" that means even people who commit crimes bad enough to go to prison... because even people in prison are loved by God, and can change their ways, and turn to Jesus, when they realize he is the only real purpose in this life. I definately recommend reading this book. I am going to read it again once I order it.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST books I've ever read!!!, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Twice Pardoned (Hardcover)
A true life story of an all star athlete who takes the wrong road and turns to drugs, alcohol, night clubs, and a fast life for acceptance! After a murder is commited , harold winds up with 2 life sentences at the White elephant (Georgia State Penn)! He explains how he got there, and the changes that were made in him through Christ. It is interesting to read how this man survived 10 years of violent prison life thorugh his walk with GOD! Don't confuse this story with Movies such as Blood in Blood out, this is the REAL thing! This book is well known with the Inmates for Christ organization.
