5.0 out of 5 stars Oh, so sweet
I happened to catch Sugarland's video for "Baby Girl" on TV and loved it so much, I immediately ordered the CD. I then went to the band's web site and was able to listen to the whole CD online. 3.0 out of 5 stars Just my opinion, but not my favorite
I love country music - it's about all I listen to. I grew up on it - no fair weather fan here - and I like a range of stars, too - from the Chicks to Mary Chapin Carpenter, to old Dolly and new Loretta. However, I just plain don't enjoy Jennifer Nettles' voice.

I like the lyrics and the instrumentation on a lot of the songs on this CD, but her voice just...

I happened to catch Sugarland's video for "Baby Girl" on TV and loved it so much, I immediately ordered the CD. I then went to the band's web site and was able to listen to the whole CD online. I love this CD so much that I wasn't able to wait the two days for my CD to arrive -- I had to go out the next day and buy it at a local record store. I gave the already-ordered copy as a gift. This is by far my favorite CD of 2004. Jennifer Nettles' voice is super, the songs are upbeat and uplifting. It's the kind of music you want to crank up and drive fast down a long, straight road with the windows down and the sun roof open. I was surprised to find out I know and respect all three members of the band from their previous musical endeavors, and it's true -- this combination is something completely different and really so much more than any of them ever did alone. The combination of Kristen, Kristian and Jennifer truly is almost magical. I hope Sugarland is around for a very, very long time, and that they get the recognition they deserve.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensational Sound!, September 25, 2005
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
After the 1st few seconds of this CD, I was utterly amazed at Jennifer Nettles voice and lyrical originality. I bought this CD just to hear something different and am truly surprised that Sugarland is not more popular than they are. I expect that her voice and the talent of the songwriting and background sounds will set higher standards in Nashville. YOU WILL LOVE THIS RECORD!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, March 26, 2005
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
This is a great CD. For those reviewers who can't stand the twang, let me remind you that this is a COUNTRY cd and that Jennifer is from Georgia. Southern accents just make the music more real and less processed. Her voice is very strong and makes everything sound upbeat. There are way too many female artists singing "sad" songs, so Sugarland is a great new alternative to this. Something More, Tennessee, Down In MS, and Baby Girl are my favorites. I rarely have 4 favorites on one CD. Go out and get it if you are a true country fan. This is one of my top 5 albums along with Mud on the Tires, Long Black Train, Julie Roberts, and When the Sun Goes Down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Isn't it sweet!, October 31, 2004
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
Sugarland is hands-down the best thing that has happened to Nashville in a long, long time.Thank you, Mercury Records, for signing this band. The songwriting is amazing, and it's pretty rare in Nashville for the stars to write their own music. Sugarland doesn't just "help" write the music, or write one song on the album, THEY WROTE THE WHOLE THING. Every single song on this album could be a best selling single. Jennifer Nettles has the most amazing voice, and her stage presence is captivating. The trio makes wonderful music together, and already, I can't wait for the next album! Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS RECORD. And then do yourself another favor and see Sugarland in concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars GrownUpMusic.com Recommended! We can't stop rockin'!, December 8, 2004
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
If you like the Dixie Chicks - and even if you don't - you're going to go ape for Sugarland. There's nothing redneck about this bunch. Sugarland is smart, incredibly talented and - best of all - optimistic. No dogs, trailer park housewives or pickup trucks were harmed in the making of this CD. Instead, it celebrates the common struggles we all share: with lyrical beauty, solid melody and a beat you can dance to. The music is infectious from beginning to end, making this a perfect soundtrack for your next road trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just country..., April 16, 2005
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
If you are a country lover, you will like this album. If you're not a country lover, you'll like this album. Although the vocals have a bit of a country twang, the overall sound is more folk-like to me. In today's music world, it's nice to see groups that write their own music as well as perform it. I have a real appreciation for groups that write their own lyrics. And as for lyrics, it's not a bunch of repetitive lines...it's storytelling from the heart. I highly recommend this album for anyone who loves good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great upbeat cd :-), July 7, 2006

Usually, I don't listen to Country music, but I made the exception when I saw these guys on the Grammy's. They are fantastic and I not only love Jennifer Nettles voice, but the music is so catchy and fun and great.
Fly Away, Something More, Just Might (Make Me Believe) and Stand Back Up are my favourites, but then they are all good songs and I'm surprised about how much I love this since I'm really mainly into R&B and Hip Hop. These guys are talented and write such great songs. They also performed on Las Vegas and look like they are having fun on stage. They sound fresh and I have really taken to this group and this cd. I hope they keep releasing music like this. They might just convert me yet. I love it. Even if you aren't a Country fan, you too might surprise yourself. Give this a try.

"Baby Girl," Sugarland's first single, and first hit, rocketed up the charts after it came out heralding the arrival of a new group of country stars. With the hook of how paying your dues may pay off, the song plays as an autobiography of the group. Deservedly, it went to the top of the charts and the video too was a hit.

The second single, "Something More," shows that Sugarland is not a one hit wonder. It shows off the writing and composing skills of the group along with their musical skills. Jennifer Nettles has a unique voice and backed up by Kristen and Kristian, they make great harmonies.

The rest of the album is just as tight and flows well. There are more hits here but it isn't just a collection of singles. The variety of songs and instruments used says a lot about the future of country music. With groups like Sugarland coming, the future is secure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sugarland ROCKS!!, April 11, 2005
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
Sugarland appeared on the Tonight Show on 3/30/05. I had fallen asleep in the chair but woke up just as Sugarland started playing their second released single ("Something More") from their one and only album. It took a few seconds to get use to Jennifer's Nettle's TWANG!! But after that, I was hooked on this song and this group. My mind kept playing that song over and over...I could hardly sleep. The next morning I got online, did some research (be sure to visit their website sugarlandmusic.com) and bought the CD from Amazon based on hearing that one song while half asleep, searching the web and reading reviews and listening to a few short clips of the other songs from Amazon's site. Now, this isn't the first CD I've bought because I liked a particular song and knew nothing of the rest of the album. Most I simply listen to that track, rip the track to MP3 to listen on the computer and throw the CD away. NOT THIS ONE!! The energy and fun this group showed on TV carries over to EVERY song. When the album arrived, I listened to "Something More" at least a dozen times and then took my obligatory stroll through the other songs. What a collection of talent this group has. I played the CD for hours and can truly say that their isn't a bad track on it. Most all would get 4-5 stars and the lowest would be a high 3. Then when you go back and listen to the "BAND", well, these musicians are "big time" musicians with "big time" sound. I played the CD for my wife (don't know why she hadn't heard it the hours I was playing it) and after a similar rising of the eyebrow at first hearing Jennifer's twang, she too was hooked. "Where's my copy" she asked!! My son came home from college and I played it for him. He liked Jennifer's twang!! I gave him my copy and bought two more for my wife and I. I'm a long time music lover (all genres) and have a huge collection of 78's, 45's, LP's, cartridges, cassettes, CD's and MP3's (somehow missed reel to reel). I have NEVER had a purchase so please me as this album did. The lyrics are simple and easy to follow, and the SOUND of the band is awesome. Get this CD NOW....this group is going to take off!!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent cd, August 25, 2006
This review is from: Twice the Speed of Life (Audio CD)
"Twice the speed of life" is an excellent cd. i bought it for the radio singles, but every other song on the cd proved to be equally as good or better (except maybe the last track which slows things down quite a bit). overall a great cd. highly recommended if you like the radio singles.
