This review is from: Twiggy in Black & White Pb (Paperback)
Got an import copy of this book online after waiting for years for some American publisher to pick it up. Given Twiggy's international fame, not sure why it was never published here except maybe it wasn't trashy enough (she never mentions her brief sexual relationship with gay choreographer Tommy Tune. A curious factoid Tune mentions in his own memoirs).
This autobiography, ghostwritten by Penelope Dening, has the fashion icon reviewing her life from childhood to the late 1990s, offering a refreshingly down-to-earth portrait of a celebrity who somehow managed to achieve world renown without succumbing to drug abuse, promiscuity, or other over-the-top behavior that we have come to associate with celebrity. (Her first husband's alcoholism is the book's sole concession to scandal. Instead we have a surprisingly insightful look at the highs and lows of fame and a lot of great anectdotes about various meet-and-greets with the rich and famous. She comes across as a nice person who just happens to have been one of the most famous models EVER.
Great behind the scenes stuff about her film and recording career. A must if you are a Twiggy fan, but perhaps nothing more than a pleasant, light read for others.
