5.0 out of 5 stars A solid and very recommended poetry read, January 13, 2009
This review is from: Twigs and Knucklebones (Paperback)
One doesn't need a paintbrush to create art. "Twigs & Knucklebones" is the work of an accomplished and skilled poet in Sarah Lindsay, with several volumes of poetry under her belt. Focusing on drawing vivid image with verse and offering some witty insights, "Twigs & Knucklebones" is a solid and very recommended poetry read. "More Than Water": She was only putting things in her song/to make it longer--/"Dolly doll,/ I love you more than playing battle,/I love you more than apricots,/I love you more than my yellow dress,/I love you more than fish,/I love you more than water--"/but her mother slapped her mouth, twice./She didn't know why, then,/or why they served so little for supper/and stared at the dish/as though it might be angry./She hadn't been in the fields to see/the line of mud, like a dead snake,/shrinking in the water-ditches.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the author's eyes only, May 2, 2011

Sarah Lindsay, if you read this, I'm your biggest fan - and may I respectfully suggest you might find Gwyneth Lewis's A Hospital Odyssey of interest; while very different in feel, it makes play with one of your concerns, the interconnectivity of life. For the full-on rave review (of both your book and hers) see amazon.co.uk!

The skill and wonder with which Lindsay taps into human and natural history to illuminate our own predicaments is simply breathtaking. These poems are intelligent and heartfelt; they teach and delight. Highly recommended.
