i am falling...i am fading...,
By Kaspar Hauser (rural iniquity) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
woooah, i own boa's 'race of a thousand camels' (same cd, different name, two less tracks) and absolutely LOOOOVE jasmine rodger's voice! sheesh, forget brittany and christina. you have to buy this cd and make boa the same sensation publically that they are privately!!! but more into the 'review' stuff. 'duvet' is an all time favorite, with a steady, beautiful beat and easilly understood lyrics. and if you like this song, you have to see 'serial experiments lain', the anime where 'duvet' was used as the opening. excellent video-ish intro. 'twilight' is beautifully haunting. 'fool' is one of the great songs that make you wanna get up and scream along with the music!!!!!! 'rain' is pretty and has a great guitar part, and the lyrics are just...***ah!***...reminicent of bad goth poetry but still good! 'elephant' is kind gospel-ish almost, but still a favorite, and gets the image of a nice walk with a good friend. oh, and, anyone out there a fan of gundam wing? the opening line sounds like something heero yuy should say...'if i was to hold one hand over my face now would you know me or would you see the other side of me'... 'scoring' is a great track, i even used the lyrics in a school report. the lyrics are excellently sang with all the passion you should've expected out of jasmine upon hearing 'duvet'! 'deeply' is a great lounge-ish song, excellent guitar and vocals, and just a fun song to sing along to!!! 'one day'...oo, get steve rodgers in on vocals. he proves to be nearly equal with his gifted sister. 'welcome' is an excellent, swirling tune. kind of an etherea-feel. 'for jasmine'...the tribute song deserved of such an ANGEL!!! 'anna marie', does better as a finale track (as on ROATC), but definitely the perfect get-up-with-your-maracas-and-dance song! 'duvet - acoustic' oh my gawd, i loooove this song. it's perfectly done, and if you've had a good day or a bad day, you turn this on and relax with a cup of tea and close your eyes and just let the strings do the work... 'little miss' a personal favorite, rockish tune with great lyrics and, in my opinion, a pretty cute ending... 'drinking' is kind of a mellow ending to such a masterpiece but belongs in here. it sounds like a 'thinking' piece, so you don't listen to it...you have to think about it, too. all in all, if you haven't bought this cd, your life is empty, whether or not you've actually noticed yet...you REALLY want this cd and you'll buy it NOW!!!

You must listen! My fav album!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
You see. Almost everyone who knows bôa, really gets to know this band with the anime Serial Experiments Lain. It's because this anime's opening song Duvet is just simply catchy! You just cannot stop listening.
Is a real shame that only a few people know this band, but everybody who knows bôa, really never regrets of knowing this band, because (in my opinion) every single song is awesomely beautiful. Yes, there are outstands, but the whole album is awesome if you desire a great rock band! They're about to release a new album called "Get there" and they really our help. Their work must be recognized! 1.Duvet -> This song is amazing, I love her voice, the instrumentals, you just can't stop singing the chorus, because it has something depressive, but touchy in it 2.Twilight -> This song has something about darkness, about love triangles, is a ballad that grows hard, like mostly all the bôa songs 3.Fool -> One of the hardest songs in the album, it talks about not fiting this world. I particularly fit myself with this song. Jasmine's voice just evolves this song from an apatic voice to an expressive yelling singing. Just wonderful! 4.Rain -> This music starts and it sounds like a smooth rain is falling. Just amazing how bôa can make this all feel into a music. The lyrics are so mysterious, I can't quite understand what it means. This mystery gives an extra touch to the song 5.Elephant -> As far, my favorite song! I just feel so great when I hear this song, it has a magic (helped by Jasmine's amazing voice) that wraps you! Just perfect. 6.Scoring -> This songs talk in an indirect way about husband's that abuses of their wives. I just love, how this songs greatly changes. 7.Deeply -> Oh, talk about love? Yes, please! This song feels like a girl pressing her boyfriend against the wall to discuss their relationships. It raises me up! 8.One day -> Steve's voice is amazing! But this is my least favorite song. But it's still great! 9.Welcome -> A reggae-jazz-like ballad! I just love the softness of this song and how Jasmine can really sing softly! 10.For Jasmine -> This has a jazzy mood in the start and gains some agressive hit through it's developing! "Don't you ever stop learning!" Great message! 11.Anna Maria -> This song has a sort of a beat that just makes you wanna dance! The instrumentals are wonderful and Jasmine is as always wonderful! 12.Duvet acoustic -> I just love this acoustic version. It is softer than the original and it got great solos! 13.Little miss -> Just another wonderful song that I can't explain. It has a jazz-mood-style, and then it changes to a hard-rock chorus! 14.Drinking -> A ballad about alcholism. It's simple and that makes it all great! You just can't stop singing "Oohh, you have so much more...ohhoho, where has your time gone?". Resuming, you must have this album. Is quite a rare album, but it's worth to pay an expensive price for it! You will not be disapointed! Oh, you will be happy and greatful to have bought this album because it will simply touch in a way that you can't stop listening to it! This album really has left me a mark.

Amazing, simply amazing,
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
This album is just that, "Amazing." All the songs ae beautifully done, Jasmine has an awesome voice and a load of talent. The songs are really deep and thoughtfull.
1. DUVET -10/10 - My second favorite on the album. Sweet melodie, good tempo, great, very touching lyrics and the opening to one of my favorite Anime, Serial Experiments Lain. 2. Twilight - 9/10 - Great title track of the album. This song always makes me think of The Cranberries, her voice and the way she sings is similar, but I think it's better, an awesome song with great lyrics 3. Fool - 8/10 - Similar to the previous song, only a little more upbeat on the corus and opening. 4. Rain - 7/10 - Very good and thought out, but still one of those songs that I can skip. 5. Elephant - 10/10 - My favorite on the CD. Extremely catchy and easy to get hooked on. Great Lyrics again, and awesome vocals on this one especially. This is one I like to play 2 or 3 times before going to the next song. 6. Scoring - 7/10 - probably my least favorite on the album, but still worth listening to, although I mainly skip it. 7. Deeply - 9/10 - Very cool! It is different than the other songs, also on Serial Experiments Lain. Great guitar intro and all the way through. I also like what Jasmine does with her voice in this song. 8. One Day - 10/10 - Great song. This is the one song that stands out, not for how good it is, which it is really good, but it is sung by Jasmine's brother, the guitarist, forget his name. He does have a good voice, something him and his sister share, and this also has great lyrics as well. 9. Welcome - 9/10 - Something slower now. A good song when your tired, or when you just want to relax. A nice, steady bass line and drum beat keep this a nice moody song. 10. For Jasmine - 8/10 - Ehh. It's good. Nothing special in my opinion. But it does have a good beat to it. 11. Anna Maria - 9/10 - This song is great. It's got a cool Mexican Guitar riff going throug it, which fits the title of the song, and nice subtle difficult drumming in it. A great song to "dance" to, you'll get the "dance" part when you hear it. 12. Duvet (Acoustic) - 10/10 - A longer, slower, calmer version of the first song. A great song, tied for second in my favorites for this album, tied with....you guessed it, the first Duvet. A great song to listen to when you just want to relax or to fall asleep to, I have. 13. Little Miss - 9/10 - I know I may sound repetative by now, but most of these songs deserve the same respect. All of them have Great music, vocals and lyrics, and this is no exception. 14. Drinking - 8/10 - Again, a good, calm, slow song. The lyrics in this one are extremely esquiset.

.... I have been exposed to a really great band that I would not otherwise have had the pleasure to listen to. If you love the Cranberries, you will love Boa. This is an excellent CD, with every song being equally as great. I know this CD by the Title of, "The Race of a Thousand Camels." The songs on Twilight are the same with 3-4 additions.Although Boa is primarily known for its song entitled, "Duvet," I must confess that I think they are all equally as good. A wonderful CD by all accounts.

Destined for musical greatness!,
By Craig C. Noyes (Mass. United States) - See all my reviews

For people who think that the music industry has turned out nothing but garbage for the last half-decade, this CD will slap you in the face and wake you up! In this age of manufactured pop bands with unoriginal and recycled song material designed only to sedate you with bubbly rythems and superficial lyrics, Boa will raise the bar for all new artists with songs that apply to so many people on so many levels. I dare you to listen to "Twilight" and not question your own beliefs and philosophies. For those who discovered this band through "Serial Experiments: Lain" and bought their original album "Race of a Thousand Camels" the two additional songs to this album are reason enough to buy it again. Let's all work to help Boa become the first great band of the 21st century

Incredible.,
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
This album is definitely one of my favorites. Boa has a unique sound, pretty lyrics, and a singer with a gorgeous voice. (It seems as if Jasmine Rodgers could sing just about anything and make it beautiful.) This band is just undoubtedly talented, and I am so glad I found them! My favorite songs on the album would have to be "Welcome," "Elephant," "Duvet," and probably "One Day." (Steve's voice is great as well.) I recommend this to anyone who just likes beautiful music.

You owe this to yourself,

The flawless American release by boa... I can't imagine anything but a five star review for this album. You may have heard the song "Duvet" that was used as the opening theme for Serial Experiments Lain (an interesting series, by the way), and you'll be comforted to know that every song on this cd is equally good.Boa manages to capture a sound that I think is completely unique to themselves. The album posses amazing variety of sound, while each song remains obviously by boa, even One Day, which is sung by Steve Rogers, the guitarist and Jasmine's Brother, instead of Jasmine herself. I've listened to this cd thousands of times, and each time it's like new, the cd has an ageless quality that makes me bleieve I'll never become sick of it. I'd point out some favorites of mine, but I'd end up just giving you the complete track listing, every song is great, more than half of them have been my "favorite" at one point (As of when I'm writing this, it's Little Miss... but just last week it was Deeply). I can't tell you enough that you need this album... even if you already have Race of a Thousand Camels, every extra track on this one if worth is ten times over. Twilight is undoubtable one of the greatest albums ever. That boa isn't a national sensation with millions upon millions of fans, and awards begin thrown at them faster than they could catch them is complete folly, there's no one better out there.

Twilight grows on you,
By Jeffrey Pauletto (Dorval, Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
I've been closet fan of boa since I first saw Serial Experiments Lain (sung Duvet). Since then I came across 'Deeply' and 'Little Miss', and loved them so much I had to get the CD. That was a mistake though. The problem is that their songs aren't like each other at all. I was almost disappointed during my first listening because I was expecting more of the same kind of stuff. That feeling passed however, because it's not that the other songs are no good, it's just that there are a bunch of different styles of songs on the CD. You've got to pay attention when you're listening, the words are so important; each song has its own little world inside of it. Now, the more I listen to it, the more I love it. The songs are a little like the Cranberries, with the writing being a cross between The Smashing Pumpkins and Tracy Chapman. Overall, a real nice addition to my collection, and if you give them a chance, they'll impress you.

Not Only Good Singing But Great Guitar Work,
By Ariku Niatume (Monroe, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
If you are looking for music that contains a great singer who has an excelent voice, this is for you. The only way to explain the way she sings is the Cranberries with less strange noises. They use a variety of Instruments which makes for great alternative rock. This is a must for many new Anime Fanatics as well as a nice addition to any CD collection.

beautiful, and different,
By phoinos (WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
BOA definitely has a different style. To be perfectly honest, the only two songs I listen to with any regularity are the first, "Duvet," and the fifth "Elephant". However, these two songs are well worth the money for the cd, particularly "Duvet", which, if you are an anime fan, I'm sure you'll have heard as the opening theme song from "Serial Experiments: Lain".The other music is good as well, although, I feel, not quite up to the caliber of "Duvet". This is a very good cd overall, reminiscent of Dido (although chronologically it should be the other way around, I think). If you are an anime fan looking for that opening theme song, then here it is, and it sounds even better in the cd player than on tv. For anyone else eager to try something new, this is it, and I doubt you'll regret the money spent. |
