5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Incredible!!, January 23, 2007
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
Future of Forestry, formerly called Something Like Silas, has produced an incredible album. With lush soundscapes that go from quiet and serene to powerful and driving. This cd is a must have for anyone who loves bands that stretch boundaries. There are three songs on this album from their self-titled EP they released last year that start off the album then the next nine songs are brand new, and they are incredible. Its hard to talk about any one specific song since they are all so good. In general all of their songs are ambient and atmospheric making listening to this album an experience. The guitar work is incredible and driving, there is a mix of some piano that is appropriately mixed in, and the rymthm section is tight. The drummer lays down some great grooves. He makes me think of Darren King the drummer from MuteMath with the way he plays because many of his grooves may be slightly out of sync or he will add in some odd fills in places, but they work. All in all this is a great cd. I know this is short but I just got this today and I am still digesting it. However, I had to tell people how good it is. If you haven't heard them go to their Myspace page or their website and check them out. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Vote of Approval, June 4, 2007
This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
I love the Future of Forestry Twilight CD. The song "All I Want" is a standout track and I listen to it all the time. The lyrics "I will go where mercy meets the shame, I will go where strength will find the small and meek" are so worshipful and also reflective and challenging. Former Something Like Silas lead singer Eric Owyoung really brings out some amazing emotional rock (emo) themes like loneliness, divorce and coming out of darkness with songs like "Open Wide" and "Speak to me Gently". This is definitely a top 10 of 2007 release in my opinion and the CD gets better with each listen which is just awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Ethereal Wall of Sound!, August 17, 2007

This review is from: Twilight (Audio CD)
In short this is one of the few creative masterpieces of music to come out this year. Future of Forestry's music is ethereal, ambient and filled with passion. This (to warn others) is music made by Christians so beware! :o), but really could appeal to anyone open-minded as the lyrics are very picturesque and descriptive, rather than just saying "Jesus rocks" or something.

The 2nd song, "All I Want" gives a good feel for the passion and intensity of their music. It's a passionate cry to God of desire and dependency. This is the one of the standout tracks of the album. That passion continues in the song "Sunrising" which says, "You bend, You kiss me, You pull me, I can feel You running to me, running through me" then later cries of falling "into eternal visions of our love." The song drips with this desire of seeking God.

"Sanctitus" is probably one of the coolest songs here as well, which is mostly instrumental with soaring, falsetto vocal by lead singer Eric Owyoung. "Gazing" is another near the end of the CD which talks of being a child "gazing into wondrous grace." Powerful and unique lyrics spread throughout the album.

They also go quieter on ballads such as "Speak to Me Gently" which is an acoustic guitar-based simple song about God speaking His gentle words to us. Others such as "Twilight" and "Stay Beside Me" also bring more of an intimate sound to the album with lyrics that are deep instead of the normal shallow stuff for the Sunday/God Krew CCM crowd.

The style is Indie Rock with a mixture of lots of delayed guitars, with some U2 influence for sure, with ambient sounds and soaring vocals. The songs rise and fall with sometimes quieter verses to soaring choruses. If you want something new and fresh then get this CD today!
