I have been anxiously waiting to read Twilight Hunter by Kait Ballenger and I knew I would not be disappointed at all because the minute I read the first page...I was captured into the Execution Underground world. I literally had a hard time putting down this book. My poor hubby and two girls were neglected for a day and a half because of reading Twilight Hunter. (I may have also snapped at the hubby when he tried to talk to me...he's not talking right now because he's still scared of me...LOL)

Twilight Hunter is with Jace McCannon and Frankie Amato. Jace is a supernatural hunter, but the kicker is he's also supernatural, and no one at the E.U. knows this, but David. He does not like his kind though since what his father did to his mother when he was younger. He also was not the greatest Dad to him. He is trying to figure out, who is killing the young girls around Rochester and the E.U. keeps jumping on his back because they think he is not doing his job...specifically the leader of their division, Damon.

When Jace is out investigating one of the killings, he happens to run across a werewolf...but she's not just any werewolf, she's the pack master. Frankie Amato is out trying to figure out, who is killing the girls also because she needs to find out if it is a rogue. It's her duty as pack master to find out what is going on. Although, she has reasons on that day on why she is out by herself and not with anyone else. She never thought she would run into Jace...her sworn enemy. He ends up capturing her, but Frankie gives him an alias, so he has no idea, who she really is.

Jace and Frankie ends up having to fight their feelings for each other, but Frankie thinks its because it's her mating cycle that is making her act strange towards him.

Review for Ramblings From This Chick Blog. ramblingsfromthischick.blogspot.com

Twilight Hunter is the first full length book in Kait Ballenger's Execution Underground Series. You can read the first part of the Execution Underground Series which is a prequel novella, Shadow Hunter, in the After Dark Anthology with Gena Showalter. The Execution Underground Series is about an elite group of supernatural hunters, each with their own specialty. Twilight Hunter centers around Jace McCannon, a werewolf hunter who just so happens to be half were.

Jace McCannon is searching for a rogue werewolf who is on a killing spree. The killer mutilates and rapes his victims and the Execution Underground as well as Jace are tired of innocent women being killed. One night while trying to find the killer, Jace comes across a female were calling herself Francesca. Even though he normally hunts her kind and is disgusted by them, he can't help but be attracted to her. Little does he know that she is actually Frankie, the pack-master. As the two begin to work together in order to search for the killer, lines become blurred and secrets and lies are revealed. There are so many obstacles standing in the way of a relationship between Jace and Frankie, and yet they are both drawn together by a chemistry that neither of them can fight. But as they each learn more, can they overcome everything and be together as well as catch a killer?

I thought that Jace was sexy and a total alpha! It was easy to see how Frankie could be drawn to him. But Jace is damaged from a past and father that left him hating himself and making it hard for him to get along with others. Even though he is a member of the Execution Underground, Jace seemed be more of a loner than part of the team when we first met him.

Do NOT go into this book, or this series for that matter, with any preconceived notion of what you think this story will be like. Yes, there are hot hunters of supernaturals and each book in the series is about one of them. But so far, I've read the first novella, Shadow Hunter, and this book and I've been knocked out of my s***-kicking boots by characters and world building. I can see so much potential for the future stories that Kait Ballenger is now easily one of my favorite paranormal romance authors.

What I love most is that her characters aren't so much "what" they are. There is so much written into "who" they are...

Characters

Jace McCannon hates werewolves. Despises them. He has good reason to; his father was a werewolf and an abusive husband and father. The fact that Jace is half is dad (half-werewolf) leads to a bit of self loathing on Jace's part in the form of a lot of drinking. He's a pretty broken guy. He hides the fact that he's half werewolf from all but his best friend. But it sure does make him a good werewolf hunter.

While he's out hunting a serial killer, he comes across a gruesome murder scene - and a werewolf. He chases down this werewolf and ends up taking her hostage with the intention of using her to get in contact with the area's packmaster. Jace wants to find out why the packmaster isn't out hunting down this serial killer himself because all signs point to the killer being a werewolf. Little does Jace know he has the packmaster in his hands. Literally. And at the most inconvenient time for both of them - a full moon. I won't explain more because I'd ruin some of the story but that's how we get a bit hot and heavy early in the story. And I liked it!

Frankie is a great female protagonist.
