4.0 out of 5 stars Too short a series
I used to be married to Diana Marcellas and read the first two Witch of Two Suns novels in draft form for her. Unfortunately, there won't be more books in this series, since Tor Books gave her only a three-book purchase. It's sad to see Tor dropping the work of such a talented author, someone of the caliber of Andre Norton, Mercedes Lackey and Ursula K. LeGuin. If you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a trilogy, so there's more to come
Okay, I'll admit, for some reason I thought this was the third book in a trilogy series and was expecting everything to be resolved by the end. Not so. Nothing is resolved, things are in fact more complicated with the introduction of new characters etc. Perhaps my expectations led me to feel this way, but I was very disappointed in the ending. I've loved these books so...

If you want more books in this series, send lots of emails to Tor Books. And if you wish to know more about Diana, check out her Tor page on the Tor website. Finally, Diana has written great scifi books as Paula E. Downing, P.K. McAllister and Paula King. Her characters in her scifi work are just as good as in her fantasy work! Tom Jackson King (aka T. Jackson King).

5.0 out of 5 stars A wondeful yet, unfinished end, December 1, 2004
This review is from: Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (Hardcover)
Diana's newest installment and doesnt lack in the intrigue and adventure she's given in the past two novels. You literally can't put this book down. I read it in 3 days. This book has one drawback in it and im still trying to figure this out. I thought the series was only to be a trilogy but it seems that, at least i hope, Diana has changed her mind. The tale is left off unfinished with many things unresolved like how Brierly is the Keystone....what happens at the Coming and how does Sarya take Brierly's pregnancy and all. I hope there is another one to come because if not, the ending is a total bust and if that is what happens, then why was the series worth reading to begin with?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wishing for the next, July 18, 2006
Diana Marcellas Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (along with the other books in the series) has to be one of my favorites. I love Marcellas rich writing style, she makes you really see the world she has created. The characters to all have their own personalities, gifts and flaws that give you a very good sense of who they are.
I devoured this book and after reading it immediately when in search of an upcoming 4th one. Unfortunately I heard that Tor has put them indefinably on hold because they weren't selling well. I also read something about them having the rights to them so she couldn't publish it with some one else, thought I'm not as sure about that.
I really hope I can see the 4th book on the shelves some time soon!
One thing about this book that I didn't like so much was that not all that much seemed to happen. I kept waiting for that inevitable war to start, or some thing along those lines. So wish more had happened in this book, it seemed to be building up to the next one.
I did love the main characters fierce protectiveness of her unborn child and adopted apprentice. This is one of those books that draws you in and keeps you there until the very end. I love the world this author has created and the glimpses of the past she gives us. It shows us how these two people sharing the same land came to were they are now.
All in all this was a great book with rich texture, and wonderful language. I highly recommend it to any fantasy lovers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Book 3, August 31, 2004
This review is from: Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (Hardcover)
The fierce Allemanii people had come from beyond the sea. For awhile they lived in peace with those of the witch-bloods, the Shari'a. Sadly, the Allemanii came to fear the Shari'a, thus came genocide. The Allemanii decimated the Shari'a. Those few to survive, fled to hide in the shadows.

The young witch, Brierley Mefell, once thought that she was the last of her king - powerful witches who lived in peace and harmony, using their powers for good. Brierley's talent lay in healing. She hid her powers from all, until she was compelled at last to use them openly to save Saray. Brierley was forced to flee for her life, taking with her Megan, the nine-year-old fire witch. Duke Melfallan helped the witches escape, sending along with them the liegeman Stefan Quinby.

Brierley soon found other witches that were in hiding. Such are Ashdla and Will Toldane, twins who share the powers of forest witches. The Finding's time has come!

***** This is third in a series by author Diana Marcellas. The first two titles are "Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea" and "The Sea Lark's Song". However, unlike most series, if you enter this series with this third book you will NOT find yourself drowning at sea. The author cleverly inserts all a new reader needs to know within the first chapter or two. For those who have read the first two books, this helps refresh memory.

Diana Marcellas has created a compelling and breathtaking saga that will keep readers coming back for more! *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Enter a richly woven universe you won't want to leave!, August 19, 2004
This review is from: Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (Hardcover)
A lyrical and gifted storyteller, Marcellas has created a series to satisfy not only fantasy readers, but also those who enjoy historical fiction and romance. The medieval-type culture with the intricacies of High Lord politics (filled with courtiers and castellans, spies and knights) will fascinate as much as the fully-realized magical world of the sahari'a witches and the Four--the spirit dragons who guide them.

You will come to care deeply for the many complex characters among the shari'a and the Allemanii, and struggle with them as they face love and hatred, fear and prejudice, honor and betrayal, compassion and hope. Read (and re-read) all 3 books in this amazing series--Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea, The Sea Lark's Song, and now Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream--and then wait with me eagerly, anxiously and impatiently, for the next volume!

4.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for more??, June 24, 2008
By
I've read the 3 books in this series recently, and they were interesting. At the end of this book, the story just stops. Literally. It's been 4 years since the last book in the series came out and there is no 4th book in sight. I've searched. There are series that would have been better off ending like this one did, but this series has been interesting and engaging. I'm wondering if we just are expected to imagine the ending. There is so much build-up and threads unfinished that it's hard to believe there won't be a 4th book. Looking for the author on the internet hasn't revealed any information. As far as I can tell, Marcellas died or was abducted by aliens. For now I'm going to keep hoping that there will be a last book tying up all the story lines...but it may be that it's like passing ships in the night and we'll never know. It's too bad because the characters were all very well developed and a reader could care about them. After 4 years, I'm not thinking there will be any more. I would love for someone who might know to post here about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An ending, please?, May 1, 2006
This is one of those rare series that stays on your mind even when you aren't reading. Anyone reading it should either have a lot of spare time or should be prepared to be carrying these books everywhere you go and reading them in between conversations, they're that amazing. Diana Marcellas has the gift of writing an intricate plot without making it too hard to remember, a problem in many science fiction/fantasy books.

Like most people who have read ths series, I started "Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea" thinking this was a trilogy and good for an in and out read. As it turns out, although I literally could not put the books down, it has the same problem as all series do while they are being written: the reader is left sitting, wanting more, but unable to get it because it hasn't been written yet. I'm sure, however, that the fourth book (which will hopefully come soon) will be as good as the last three have been.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unfinished series, December 4, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Twilight Rising, Serpent's Dream (Hardcover)
This is the third in an unfinished series. Although it is a great book with a wondeful heroine we may never find out how it ends. The author does not have a website so it is unclear if there will ever be another book to end the story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Waiting for the end, May 1, 2006
Well, once again I've had to dig through my library to find something to read and settled on the witch of two moons series. I've probably read and re-read it at least 5 or 6 times and now I'm merely awaiting the next book in the series. Diana Marcellas has created a breath taking world with beautiful characters that draws you in until you can't put the book down. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes authors such as Mercedes Lackey, Anne Bishop, Kate Forsythe, and Sara Douglass. The story ranges from seaside castles to mountain caverns with hidden cities.
