1959 and 1960 releases from Jimmie, featuring Western and gospel fare, respectively! Joe Reisman of Henry Mancini fame produced both of these albums they re beautifully realized showcases for Rodgers warm, easygoing vocal style.

I was hesitant to buy this because sometimes the musical arrangements drown out the singer and lose the beauty of the song.

But I'm glad I took a chance, and these versions of the songs are tastefull and worth the purchase.

My favorites bit is the ending of "Go Down Moses" where Jimmie sings alone for just one more phrase.

Happy trails ...

Twilight On The Trail was the very first L.P. I ever purchased. I acquired a copy in 1959 when it was first released and played it to death. Over the years I have bought at least 3 replacement copies of the LP, and when it was at last released on CD couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The album remains one of my all-time favourites. If you are a real fan of the Jimmie Rodgers "Honeycomb" "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" "Oh Oh, I'm Falling In Love Again" and "Bimbombey" style, this album might not be for you with it's lush strings orchestral backing, but for me, it's tops !

I had almost forgotten Jimmie Rodgers but remembered his music from long ago. When he came to mind again, I was happy to find this album at Amazon for my collection. It doesn't move me as much as it did originally though.
