From the Back Cover

ìA godsend. This book will bring relief and hope to all those who are captives of their homes.î-Art Linkletter

-The latest help and research that cuts through medical jargon. -Motivating humor to help you cope for another day. -The insight of someone whoís been there. Twice.

Certified counselor Mary Ann Mayo gives you all of these things and more from twenty years of caring for two parents struck by Alzheimerís disease.

Like a trusted friend, Mayo guides you on quality of life issues from nutrition and independence, to letting go and inevitably planning a funeral. She also brings you relief and laughter as she accounts surprising ways to cope with the unimaginable (like when her mother decided to wed again . . . if she could just remember how to get to the church on time-and who the groom was).

If you have a friend or family member with Alzheimerís, are their principle caregiver, or fear the disease will someday affect you, Twilight Travels with Mother gives you the encouragement and tools you need to keep going.

ìWho would have guessed that a nonfiction book about Alzheimerís could be a page-turner? Mary Ann Mayo is engaging, funny, poignant. She answers truthfully those toughest of all questions about aging that we were too afraid to ask.î-Lela Gilbert, coauthor of Heaven Is Not My Home and Portraits of Freedom

ìMary Annís approach takes away the dread and stigma of this prevalent disorder, giving us hope that it can be turned into something positive.î-Archibald D. Hart, Ph.D., FPPR, Fuller Theological Seminary

ìIíll use this book to help clients dealing with these things-and donít we all deal with them eventually?î-Paul Meier, M.D., founder of Meier Clinics, coauthor of Unbreakable Bonds and Happiness Is a Choice

4.0 out of 5 stars Caregiving support, August 2, 2011

This review is from: Twilight Travels with Mother: How I Found Strength, Hope, and a Sense of Humor Living with Alzheimer's (Paperback)
Having recently become a fulltime caregiver for a relative with Alzheimer's, I've become obsessed with learning all I can about the disease. The author of Twilight Travels has provided much of that research for me, and shares both her personal story, with both humor and honesty, and much information about prevention and treatment. I found the book helpful in both providing anecdotal information I could relate to and find some comfort in, and information about symptoms and stages of the disease, medication, legal and financial issues, and other practical matters that anyone who finds herself in a caregiving role will find very useful. I did not care for the cover illustration, however; it seems to misrepresent the book as a lighthearted romp with mom through this dreadful disease. That wasn't what I was looking for, and, fortunately, it's not what I got.
