This review is from: Twilight (Two-Disc Deluxe Edition) (Blu-ray) (Blu-ray)
I bought this movie as my first Blu-ray movie after recently purchasing a new player since this is one of my favorite movies. The blu-ray version of this movie is filled with things that are not noticable in the original version and it makes it that much more AMAZING to watch! The colors are more vibrant and the textures add so much more to the movie than I ever would have though possible. If you love this movie you should definitly purchase this DVD in blu-ray! Worth every penny!

While not as close to the first book as I'd like, it's a pretty good movie. When I initially saw it, I really disliked it but my friend told me to give it another chance and he was right, the more you watch it, the more it grows on you. Pretty good interpretation of the story, if not completely accurate, but what based-on-a-book movies are?

I read all four books in the saga and have seen all the movies so far. The story is fun and Edward is my knight in shining (sparkling?) armor. This is a good read for all ages even though it is a young adult book. It is more of a love story than a horror book, but has action in it for everyone. I have read all the books several times and watched the movies over and over. The movies keep pretty close to the books. Can't get enough.

I love the whole series and in relation of a book to movie this was well done. Most people already know that but if you don't...buy it. I watch it every few months or so.

Great movie! I thought I would hate a vampire movie but I was hooked! I bought all four books as quickly as I could because the movie was so great.

Great Movie,
This review is from: Twilight (Anamorphic Widescreen Single Disc) (DVD)
The first movie isn't the same quality as the second two. However, that is because there was not as big of a budget. But it is a pretty good view of the book. If you love the twilight series you will love this movie.

My daughter made me go to this movie in the theatre. As usual, she has very good taste. I greatly enjoyed the film. Because it is a movie about vampires, one might expect blood & gore. However, except for the climactic action scene, there is very little carnage. Instead, "Twilight" is a romance. Kristen Stewart who played Jody Foster's daughter in "Panic Room" plays Bella Swan who comes to the overcast town in Washington to live with her father. Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Widescreen Edition) (Harry Potter 4). In "Twilight," he's the leading romantic character Edward Cullen. His struggle is internal as he finds himself falling in love with Bella, if he can just resist the urge to kill her. The two fathers are also pivotal characters in the film. Bella's dad Charlie is a local policeman. Billy Burke who was in Fracture (Widescreen Edition) with Anthony Hopkins really gives a marvelous performance as the single dad who cares about his daughter, but is a bit awkward and unpracticed at being a father. Edward's dad is Dr. Carlisle Cullen, a physician whose good looks and pale complexion give him an air of calm mystery. Peter Facinelli who played Takmet in "The Scorpion King" plays the role sympathetically. Also a standout is Jasper, the newest recruit to the family. In his brief appearances, his desire to eat the humans is barely contained and looks like hostility. Jackson Rathbone who will be in "The Last Airbender" turns in a minimalist performance that works with his good looks. The villains in the piece are a trio of hungry vampires whose dinner leftovers are attributed as kills by animals. Rachelle Lefevre who appeared on TV's "Charmed" plays Victoria, the fur-wearing wild woman of the group. Kenyan-born actor Edi Gathegi plays Laurent, the most reasonable of the trio. He played Dr. Jeffrey Cole on TV's "House." Making a savage impression is Cam Gigandet as James, the tracker vampire who stalks Bella relentlessly like a cat wanting to play with its food. Gigandet played the bully Ryan McCarthy in "Never Back Down" & uses similar aggression in this film. I enjoyed "Twilight" because of the unrequited romance between Bella & Edward. The kiss that takes forever to culminate throbs with emotion all the more because of its restraint. I purchased the single disc version as a used copy and am glad to be able to pop it in the DVD player. Enjoy!

Sparkly vampires!,
This review is from: Twilight (Anamorphic Widescreen Single Disc) (DVD)
Like Harry Potter and "Eragon" and other such younger-reader literary phenomena, Stephanie Meyers' bestselling vampire romance "Twilight" has gotten the big-screen treatment.
Will its countless fans love it? Undoubtedly. Will the rest of the world love it? Ehhhhhhh... probably not. Basically liking "Twilight" all depends on whether the idea of teenage vampire/mortal romances with no sex and lots of longing looks appeal to you. It's essentially a teenage fantasy about finding the Perfect Hot Immortal Coverboy Who Longs For You Alone, and as such, it's neither amazingly good nor hilariously bad -- just sort of blah. On her first day at her new school, klutzy Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) is struck by the ash-pale, vaguely incestuous Cullen family -- an especially by the Hawt and Brooding Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Edward doesn't seem to like her much -- but when Bella is nearly killed by a runaway car, he somehow manages to zip across the parking lot and knock away the car. Bella does some speculation about how Edward did this particular trick, throwing off some Superman/Spiderman comparisons. "But what if I'm not the hero? What if I am the bad guy?" he asks. Of course Bella believes he could never be, because he's hot. Er, because she trusts him because he's hot. Umm... never mind. Anyway, Bella eventually figures out that he's a vampire-- a "vegetarian vampire" with the power to read thoughts... except hers. Despite his fears that he'll hurt her, their smoldering chemistry (and Bella's "heroin" smell) draws them into a relationship... at which point, since the plot has had zero non-teenybopper tension, three two-dimensionally evil vampires enter the scene, intent on hunting Bella. The Cullens whisk her away to keep her safe from this trio -- but they have more than one way to find her. The book "Twilight" is essentially the eroticized fantasies of a teenage girl, purple of prose and taking itself hilariously seriously. Director Catherine Hardwicke and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg thankfully remove most of the sentimental drippiness and damselly distress, but Hardwicke's "Twilight" focuses more on the stars' pretty faces than on their personalities. Or the plot. Hardwicke paints the whole movie in dreary shades of misty grey and blue, which has a certain appropiate visual prettiness. Too bad about the choppy, jerky fight scenes and appalling CGI, including a unintentionally silly "vampire baseball" scene. Think supersonic pitching. Add that to some oatmeal-bland dialogue ("This kind of stuff just doesn't exist!" "It does in my world"), and you don't exactly have a winner. The biggest problem is the plot: it goes nowhere fast. "Twilight" is your basic teenage romance -- angst, whining and OMG-does-he-like-me-does-he-hate-me? -- except that the Hawt Guy is a vampire, and the only real obstacle to their Eternal Luv is that he can't make up his mind about whether to date her or not. This is not terribly riveting as a story, especially since it's glaringly obvious whether they'll get together or not. To make matters worse, the main source of tension is the cliche sex = bloodsucking formula, where Edward is constantly shying away from Bella's virginal neck (what does that imply about sucking blood from animals?). Hardwicke wrings a few pretty moments from the movie -- such as Edward and Bella in the Northwestern pine treetops -- but her skills seem to be stifled. You can only wring so much interest from "Meet the Vampire Family." The talented Pattinson is undeniably a beautiful guy, and he has the bad boy thing down to a fine art. Unfortunately Edward doesn't call for much more -- Pattinson broods, smolders and stalks Bella as a sign of how he loves her. Stewart does a passable job as the rather flat Bella Swan (whose main ambition in life seems to be eternal undeadhood with Eddie-boy), but it's hard to forget that that she's basically playing a self-insert for the masses. Those who adore the works of Stephanie Meyer and dream of eternal love with an Immortal Hottie may find "Twilight" a delight, but it's no more than a thin, flat guilty pleasure at best.

Interesting take on the genre, but definitely not horror based...,
By
This review is from: Twilight (Anamorphic Widescreen Single Disc) (DVD)
Many elements of 'Twilight' have been explored in other vampire movies. One might gather that this film has little to offer. Not so. There are also several old rules that get tossed out the window here, and that makes for an interesting film. The objective is not fright and blood. It is certainly not ritual (unless you include baseball). And the only relation to `Lost Boys' is found in the `new kid on the block' story line. So on to the good and the bad (no ugly in `Twilight'). It is definitely a film with Barbie, Ken and their teenage daughters in mind. But fans of the genre might just be entertained.
Since it was based on a novel, there was plenty of obligatory set-up work to be handled. Director Catherine Hardwicke does so while maintaining a smart pace. She is able to move onto, well, just the potatoes I'm afraid, without dragging her feet. The story is set mainly in the Pacific Northwest. This allows for a nice compromise between the old day/night conflicts of most vampire adventures. Some of what is found in `Twilight' is a cross between a series on the WB and `The Bold and the Beautiful'. The vampires contained within `Twilight' are for the most part quite affable. And as odd as it may seem, the notion of a vampire maintaining a strictly vegetarian diet is not a new one. But it does tend to water things down. And while there is a side order of hearty munchers included, it doesn't quench one's thirst for, well, vampirism. In as much as vampire movies go, `Twilight' is aiming for a radical departure from the norm. Given that, and as a fan of the genre, my interest was maintained. I enjoyed the setting of the film, as well as the `new' elements as to what vampires can and cannot do. Let's see what the next chapter brings.
