Giving this set a bad rating because you already bought an earlier set is doing any potential buyers of this set a grave injustice.

It is, simply, astonishing. Why? Start with digital transfers from the original camera negatives and magnetic tracks. Add commentaries for the majority of episodes. And multiple commentaries for several episodes. Add Rod Serling's college lectures used for commentaries. Add interviews with cast and crew members. Add isolated msic scores. Add intros and outros. Add network promo spots. Add the TWILIGHT ZONE radio dramas and comic books...I could go on but why bother? If you are a TWILIGHT ZONE FAN, you won't be disappointed.

I am a real fan of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. I bought the 42 VHS collection of Twilight Zone via Columbia House Canada and paid nearly $1500.00 for the entire collection more than ten years ago. What a deal to obtain the DVD collection with all the extras for a fraction of what I paid for the VHS. The quality is excellent. One little note: there is no close caption for the season one but no problem for seasons 2,3,4,5. Thank you Amazon. I live in Québec canada and it took only five days to receive the collection by regular mail.

This show was absolutely fantastic. The writing, the acting, the production value, everything about this show was/is/and will always be perfect. You couldn't make a show like this now. It has too much depth, too much insight, too much actual truth in it for the networks to handle. It seems as though television's motto today is, "Keep 'em numb, keep 'em dumb". Yeah, there are a few good shows that actually have some intelligence to them, but nothing packs a punch like the original Twilight Zone. The beauty of Serling and his collaborator's writing was that it was tight and yet sparse. They didn't spell everything out for you. They assumed you had a brain and that you were capable enough to use it. In fact, a lot of the stories that were on the "creepy side" were not about the things you didn't know, but the things you thought you did. I mean, who would've guess that To serve Man was actually a cookbook?

I used to really look forward to Thanksgiving Day...no, not because of the dried out old bird with the runny gray stuff oozing out of it that my aunt insisted was turkey and stuffing, but the annual Twilight Zone marathon. Every year on the Los Angeles station, KTLA, channel 5 they had a morning till night Twilight Zone marathon with the top five being in the latter part of the marathon. No matter how many times I saw certain episodes, they still gave me the "wooly bumps". Like for instance, Terror at 20,000 feet. A young Bill Shatner sees a monster doing some rather destructive things to the wing of the airplane he is flying on. They told him it was all in his mind. They insinuated he was going crazy. They deboard the plane and there is a shot of the airplane wing with damage done to it....ooooo...I still get a little freaked out thinking about it.

You want to talk about irony? Oh, the Twilight Zone delivers over and over again with "everyone's favorite", Time Enough, At Last;

All Burgess Meredith wants to do is read. Nobody can understand his compulsion to want to read. Mmmm...maybe he wants to escape his nagging wife, his dimwitted boss, his small-minded fellow employees. So he goes into the bank vault on his lunch break to read his books, when he comes out, a disaster has happened...or has it?

The world has been hit by a nuclear bomb and the only one remaining is Burgess Meredith. Finally, he has all the time in the world to read his books. He reaches over for one of his books and he drops his glasses and they crack. Oh, man...it was sad then and it is sad now just writing it. Irony: it's a twisted thing.

This is a beautiful collection and everyone Twilight Zone fan should own it. Yeah, something "even better" will probably come out later on, production companies tend to do this to make another buck, but I am very happy with this collection. You also get a little documentary on Rod serling, himself. The guy was a genius. He passed away in 1975 and television has never been the same since.

It's not that "they" can't make shows like this, anymore, it's that they won't. And as much as I am a fan of Lost, sometimes I feel that even the writers of the show don't exactly know where they are going with it...

"Let me take one more hit, dude, and then I'll write this week's show.....uhhh...what show am I writing for again?"

But with the Twilight Zone, you always knew you were headed for something creepy, something strange, something to bring you back into touch with the sweet, strange mysteries of life itself...

I didnt get into this show until the past year or so. Ive heard of it in the past but I wasnt born until the early 80's so I didnt get to see it as much as id like to of. Now I can see all the great episodes on DVD and really get to appreciate the genius of this show. This box set contains all 156 complete episodes of Rod Serling's groundbreaking series along with exciting extras.

There are tons of extras on these DVDS. Some of the extras include Conversations with Rod Serling, Photo Galleries, Billboards, Alfred Hitchcock Promo, Everything you could imagine. Enjoy it.

This is a great set. It contains all the episodes ever made and is loaded with special features. The quality is crisp and couldn't have been made any better. It also includes old commercials that once aired on the CBS channel, including a commercial for an old Steve McQueen series:Wanted: Dead or Alive" (1958)! Definitely a must-own however, I have a few complaints.

This "all-in-one" set does NOT bring "The Twilight Zone Companion" book like the stand-alone season 1 did. Another complaint is the packaging. In fact, the packaging is the biggest complaint of them all.

The DVD packaging comes in a style somewhat similar to a book. It has a few plastic trays like pages on a book that hold each individual disk. Well, to make matters short, If you decide to order this product, beware. The DVD'S MAY come loose and you can possibly have a few floaters. When I received it, two of the disks on season 1 were loose. One had minimal damage but the other had plenty of surface scratches and 2 DEEP scratches.

If only this set were manufactured like the previous stand-alone season sets it would have gotten 5 stars from me. Looking at the bright side, you can't beat the price. Buying the stand-alone sets individually will definitely cost a whole lot more. The only extras you will be missing here is the book, which can be purchased separately for a mere $11.00.

Great set, clean and sharp transfers, love the collection, BUT...

WARNING TO NEW VIEWERS:

(1) DO NOT for ANY REASON watch OR listen to the main DVD Menu! Just hit the mute button until the images go away. REASON: The main menu stupidly gives away the plot twists for several classic episodes, spoiling the surprises for those who haven't seen them.

(2) When you choose an episode, DO NOT look below the top left corner; just hit "Enter" or "Play." REASON: The chapter selections for a number of episodes GIVE AWAY PLOT TWISTS with their descriptions and pictures.

(3) Do NOT read the liner notes included in each season box! Same reason as above: Pictures and descriptions give away plot points, to the point where fans like me say, "Why on earth did they show that picture? It completely gives away the entire episode!"

I'm flabbergasted that the folks that put these together set the episodes up this way. I played many episodes for my older children, but the DVD menu had ruined the endings for several episodes for them.

So, to summarize:

(b) ARRRGHH!!!

I was given this as a gift. (!!!) It does not disappoint on any level. All the episodes appear to be there, even the rare "The Encounter" with George Takei that is almost never aired.

The box set is itself beautiful. One of the disc-holders within one box has become dislodged, but I can probably figure out how to fix that. The packaging is gorgeous. You already know, if you're reading this, that the episodes are (sorry) out of this world -- but there are scads of enertaining extras, interviews, clips of Serling from other shows (his appearance on Jack Benny had my 18-year-old howling). There are even sponsor spots, the bizarre plugs Serling did for Oasis Cigarettes, and United Way commercials. (But they don't interrupt the episodes.) I'm only partway through season 2 and haven't seen/heard nearly all this set has to offer yet -- and I'm watching it like it's a book I can't put down. Despite having watched this show whenever it aired during my entire life, there are still episodes in here I'd swear I'd never seen before.

My only gripe is that if there is a way to play a disc straight through, without having to select each separate episode, I have not found it. I'd prefer just letting them run and run -- like a SciFi marathon sans commercials. A very small gripe, considering what a gorgeous and complete set this is -- a sparkling, brilliant dream come true for any Twilight Zone lover.

If you are used to seeing "The Twilight Zone" on the Sci Fi channel, you will be surprised to see the difference when you watch the DVD. The Sci Fi channel cuts most episodes to allow for more commercial time. This alone made the purchase well worth it for me.

Hello all,I purchased this before xmas.What an outstanding collection all 156 episodes all uncut and in glorious black and white.In order and by seasons even the 4th season which featured one hour episodes.From 1959 thru 1964 these chilling tales have captured the young and old throughout the years and never losing its popularity.While growing up in new york city in the 1960's the twilight zone was a way of life in reruns. My favorites to name a few is the howling man,the after hours,will the real martians please stand up,time enough at last,nightmare at 20,000 feet,and it keeps going on and on.Well worth the money and the transfer are superb same with the soundtracks.the bonuses is very extensive ranging from bloopers to commercials to comic books even a satire from saturday night live show.in retropect everything you always wanted to know about the twilight zone is here,what is outstanding is stars like rod taylor and burgess meredith sharing their views on twilight zone experiences.The only draw back i see is that there is no play all,each episodes must be clicked on when one finishes instead of the older zone sets where you had a play all.But if you have the love and passion for the original twilight zone then the definitive set is just well worth your time and money.....excellent journey into THE TWILIGHT ZONE.....

I'd give this set 4.5 stars but Amazon won't let me. I rate the series 5 stars and the DVD set 4 stars.

The navigation on the DVD sets themselves could have been better. There's no 'play all' feature and when you pick an episode, it takes you to a chapter list where you pick chapter 1 to start the episode. When the episode ends, you're taken back to that episodes' chapter list, not the menu where you pick another episode. There's no Spanish subtitle feature available on any of the seasons.

Picture and sound are excellent. This show is great in black and white, color would ruin it. Some of the episodes have commentaries by actors who starred in the episode - they range from informative (Where is Everybody?, Long Distance Call) to a hoot (The Long Morrow) to don't bother (The Last Night of a Jockey). Other extras include present-day interviews with episode writers as well as some footage from the late 50s-early 60s with Rod Serling.

Once you start watching this DVD set, you won't be able to stop!
