I've been weaving on and off for more than 12 years, without really getting "caught" by weaving fever. Until I got this book. Now I really understand so much more than I did before and have been weaving regularly. It is well written with great illustrations and pictures. There is enough information here that you could weave nothing but twills and be busy for years. It gave me a whole new appreciation of twills, rather than thinking it was pretty much a "starter" weave pattern. I would recommend this book to every weaver I know.

As an advanced beginner weaver who loves twills this was a good buy. I liked how the projects are organized in a progression of twill theory starting with straight-draw and ending with networking and beyond. The majority of patterns presented were for 8-shafts or less while the more advanced imagery multiplied them exponentially. It's fun to see what more shafts can do for you. My only criticism is I hoped for more patterns in traditional twill. I would buy this again!

It may be too complicated for beginners. In order to use the ideas you must have a fair amount of weaving experience. The book starts with a few easier patterns and goes to more complicated. Shows an idea and how you can design your own pattern. Very nice and colorful pictures

There are lots of beautiful things to make and good explanations of twill from simple to complex ones. (Full disclosure) I haven't had a chance to actually weave any of them yet. My fingers are itching to get those threads on the loom, but more urgent matters pull me away.

This book is clearly written, has great pictures - I can't wait to warp up a new twill project.

Good projects but not if you use a 4 shaft loom more for 10 and more shaft looms

The Best of Weaver's,

The magazine "Weaver's" is defunct but you can find a few archives hidden away in weaver's guilds. However, the patterns live on in this the fourth book in the "Best of Weaver's" series. Many of the patterns are twilling to make. The patterns in standard layouts assume that you have been weaving for some time and can interpret them. Some projects can be complex I prefer simple samplers. Maybe one day I will branch out. This is a great training book and it does not try to be cutesy. The patterns for garments are outside the scope of the book but the pictures are intriguing. The pictures are color glossy. Most are close enough to see the designs in detail. When your stash starts to run low there is a supplier list in the back of the book. As always, an excellent addition to every weaver's library. Madelyn van der Hoogt never disappoints with her "Best Of Weaver's" series.

This is an absolutely fantastic book. There are many wonderful designs that can be adapted to many different projects. I just got the book last week and have already reworked several into completely new projects I can't wait to get on the loom. Really glad I bought this book.

Twill Thrills,

It was okay - not insightful. Just a recipe type book. No complex discussion of weave structure.
