5.0 out of 5 stars TWIN OF ICE IS MY ALL-TIME FAVOURITE
I must have read Twin of Ice about 3 times now and I just love Houston & Kane. Their chemistry was superb and characters so real, although less-than-perfect. I love the scene when they first met in a shop where some ladies were passing nasty remarks about Kane and Houston just told them off in such a classic way! Although people think that Houston made a big...

2.0 out of 5 stars No way this is 5 stars!
The story-line was decent enough except that it dragged and rambled in places.

What really got to me was the hero and heroine. She was indecisive, somewhat whiny and strangely bland (despite that sad desperate attempt to make her interesting by involving her in some sort of secret sisterhood). He was godawful. With his broken redneck speech and hairy ways, I...

Although people think that Houston made a big mistake by agreeing to marry Kane, the match was actually very good when you think about it. She was able to put all her training to good use by running his household! Best thing is underneath her cool exterior, she was one hot lady indeed! And to think that she could actually have married that boring Leander who couldn't even distinguish between her and her twin Blair. Twin of Fire, by comparison pales against this first book. Somehow I was not able to feel for Blair & Lee the way I felt for Houston & Kane. After reading the fiasco between Blair & Lee in Twin of Ice, I just felt that Lee must be the goonest man alive not to be able to tell the twins apart. And Blair actually slept with her sister's fiance! Try as I did to think that her passion is romantic, I couldn't. You should read Twin of Fire for completeness but for me, I could not remember the story. Conclusion? Twin of Ice is worth a read over and over again and fans of Jude Deveraux should not miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kane & Houston are adorable!, May 7, 2001

TWIN OF ICE is one of my all-time favorite books written by Jude Deveraux. I find myself picking it up anytime I want to smile. Kane is not your typical hero (but none of Jude's heroes are typical, are they?). He is extremely wealthy with the manners of a pig. But Houston makes him appear to be the great man he is inside. And in return Kane brings out the fun-loving, spirited woman who is thought to be an ice princess by others. The dialogue is hilariious and spirited. Overall, it is defintely a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a goodun, June 15, 2005
This review is from: Twin of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
Okay i'm a little upset and one of the reviewers for saying Kane isn't smart. Just becasue someone isnt educated the way society deems smart doesn't mean they arn't. Albert Einstien flunked Geometry for goodness sakes.
Okay i vented i'm better.
NOT!!!
How could anyone say you can't pic Kane as the hero. How could you say you can't pic him as hott?
Have you ever been to Texas people? We may not sound smart with the accent's we may not even act smart all the time but we sure as heck have the sexyest guys around. Kane's gotta little bit of a Texas twang thats all. Who wouldn't want a hunk like him?
Okay i really am done venting...
Houston Chandler was societys ideal lady, unlike her twin sister Blair Chandler. Houston went to finishing school, her step father thinks she's perfect (unlike her sister lol) and Leander the well respected doctor wants to marry her, and she of course wants to marry him...right? Than how come every time he kisses her or touches her in a intimate way she is repulsed? She assumes kissing a man isn't suposed to be enjoyable for the woman and it's something a lady is suposed to tolerate when she gets married. Than when the less then sophisticated but very rich Kane Taggert pulls her into a dark corner and asks her over to his mansion over the hill...how can she refuse? She's always wanted to see the inside of that house, but she already has plans with Leander. So her sister goes in her place dressed like Houston.
So in the mean time Kane proposes to Houston...(of course she declines) Blair sleeps with Leander, with Leander still thinking it's Houston, and when Leander finds out it wasn't...boy is he mad. But than suddenly Houston is jilted and Leander wants to marry Blair. Than suddently Houston accepts Kane and starts to fall in love with this great hunk of a guy. Kane makes her feel more like her self. He turns her into the person she is afraid too be

4.0 out of 5 stars Twins can be very different, September 7, 2008
This review is from: Twin of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
I read Twin of Ice first out of the two and I found I liked this one better than Twin of Fire. I feel bad for Houston Chandler at first. She is a commendable lady who is stuck in her shell, believed to be "The Ice Princess or Queen". Throughout her entire life nothing has changed, until her twin sister Blair comes back to town. One night changes everything for both twins when Houston accepts a dinner invitation from Kane Taggert, the man every woman in the little town of Chandler wants to get their hooks into and Blair goes in Houston's place to a dinner with Lee, Houston's long time fiancé. The whole switch-a-roo gets the twins in trouble, now Houston is left without a fiancé because Lee feels obligated to marry Blair after the night they shared. Though good ole Kane, a man without manners or refinement offers to take Houston in marriage.
This book is full of laughs and adventures; you will want to read Twin of Fire to get Blair Chandler's point-of-view. I truly liked how Jude wrote these books. Each twin is completely different, its enjoyable to learn about both of their characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars It reminded me a little of Beauty and the Beast, November 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Twin of Ice (Kindle Edition)
I think that's the best description I can give. If you went by public opinion then Kane was an unrefined beast and Houston a wallflower who did her duty of standing about and looking pretty to a T. But they are so much more than that, there is a goodness in Kane that is hidden behind anger and his gruffness and Houston makes you admire her when you realize that she is so much more than the prim, proper twin. There are so many moments that make you smile or laugh. Very enjoyable

When I first read the section where Blair confesses she slept with Lee, I felt betrayed for her. But Houston definitely got the better part of that deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Twins to the End, June 9, 2009
This review is from: Twin of Ice (Paperback)
Houston Chandler is a lady of many secrets, but only one love. She agrees to marry Kane Taggert. Kane wanted Houston, but until after the ceremony did he discover that under the austere barricade is a woman he never knew.
Jude Deveraux's TWIN OF ICE lives in the imagination long after the last page is reached.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ice Princess meets the Grumpy Bear - 4.5 stars, September 15, 2006
This review is from: Twin of Ice (Mass Market Paperback)
For most of her life, Houston Chandler has lived according to rules. As the last of the founding family of Chandler, Colorado, it seemed to be taken for granted that one of the Chandler twins would marry Lee Westfield. Thus, since she was a little girl, she did everything that was expected of her including going to a finishing school to ensure that she would excel in her wifely duties. Now at twenty-two, the date for her wedding has been set. Everything is going well until the night her curiosity got the better of her and she traded places with her twin sister, Blair. When she accepts a dinner invitation from the mysterious Kane Taggert, Blair accompanies Lee to a party. Never in her wildest dream did she expect that her life would be forever altered by such an innocent arrangement, a seemingly innocent act that now has her, and everybody else asking: Why is she marrying this beastly man whose sole purpose is to make money? Deep inside, she knows the answer to that. Unlike her former fiancé, Kane Taggert has awakened the woman in her--a woman who yearns for adventure.

I have had this book for a while and have only just decided to pick it up. How glad was I that I finally did for this turned out to be a wonderful read. Set in the late 1800s, this captures the life of frontier America as seen in the lives of the characters and the people around them. Houston is the epitome of the so-called ideal wife--pliable, a good homemaker and always willing to please. Yet this is how she portrays herself to be, while inside is a woman who yearns for more. And what better way to bring out the passionate woman in her than someone like Kane; a polar opposite of Houston, a grumpy bear with a huge heart. This is a man who worked himself to death in order to prove himself to the man who sent him packing many years ago. While he initially intended for Houston to simply be a trophy wife, he realizes her real worth. Though his distrust in Houston's true feelings sometimes annoyed me, I felt that it was well-founded considering how the ladies initially threw themselves at his feet, then spread rumors about him when they were ignored. And really, some of his actions were just really endearing, especially how he seemed to get the most enjoyment from the regular things that Houston has introduced him to like baseball and sitting down with friends.

TWIN OF ICE is a fun, poignant and delightful book. Not only will you love the hero and heroine, but you'll also enjoy meeting the secondary characters. TWIN OF FIRE is the follow up book to this, and you can also see more of Houston and Kane in WISHES, which is a really fantastic novel.

Ok, I loved this book. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it! You may hate the characters in the beginning but they redeem themselves in the end. You have Kane Taggert who grew up hard, made his money through sheer revenge and did what he damned well please. He wants a wife. Not just any wife but a real lady for a wife so he settles his sights on Houston Chandler, one of the beautiful Chandler twins. They marry, of course, because Houston thinks Kane needs her, which he does but doesn't realize it. All he wants is to get back at the man who ruined his life by inviting him to dinner and then separating himself from his wife. But things don't go his way. Before he realizes it, he's falling for Houston, even though he's convinced she married him for his money. Houston already knows she's in love with Kane and is intent on making the marriage work.

Ms Deveraux has created some very memorable characters in this story. They're funny, meddlesome, and stubborn and yes, even dense at times. It's a very easy story to read and will leave you thoroughly enchanted.
