We bought this bed for my 13 year old son for Christmas, so he could have friends over and have not have them sleep on a cot. The bed was very easy to put together, and I was pleasantly suprised at the quality. Most of the bed is sturdy metal; the bedposts are wood. It looks really nice and is very solid. As another reviewer said, the packaging and instructions speak to the quality and commitment of the manufacturer, and I agree that this manufacturer is committed to putting out a good product.

One recommendation I would make is to order the futon mattress/cushion online along with the bed. I thought that we could find one in the stores locally, but no such luck.

Our cats have figured out a way to get up on the top bunk and really like it up there!

Love this item. We purchased it for our guest room. It's sturdy, classy and looks much more expensive than what we paid. The price was right too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, September 30, 2010

This bed is cheaply made. The product was shipped in a damaged box. The hinges on the futon broke immediately and contacting the seller is impossible since this was sold through Amazon. I would not recommend this product or the availability of customer service.

I selected the unit based upon the reviews (after reviewing the basic configuration of course). I received the unit and found the directions fairly ludicrous. The diagram was remedial and when I went to inventory all the parts, it was impossible to determine which bolts were which - and that seemed important (it was...). I contacted the seller to obtain the missing bolts (half were missing and I had a lot of extras of the other types - and was missing a pad described in the inventory list. Never got the pads, gave up on that. The bolts I did receive were the same as the ones I had - but the seller was responsive and did get me some additional parts in short order. I bailed completely on the directions, they were ridiculous and went for it by sight. I was able to figure it out (I'm a reasonably handy and stubborn) and got it together. By and large, it's good but the hinges for the futon are not very good at this point. I would say that it's a fair unit, but not worth the reviews here. Maybe I just got a badly packaged unit but the instructions were really poor. I think my young son could draw the parts better and the text of the instructions reminded me of my tax forms.

I bought this item based on the reviews received here and was not impressed with the item's quality.

1) The futon hinges really don't work if the mattress is in place. Too flimsey and bow-out and hit frame when you try to fold the back into place.

2) The wood posts are laminated with a thin finished wood layer that is poorly glued in place. The edges of the laminate stick up like they were only glued in the center.

3) They supplied the exact number on nuts and bolts and several of the hidden nuts were stripped out or untapped.

4) Like everyone else said, the assembly instructions are poor.

Overall the design is good its just the poor quality of the hardware and the posts that make this item a poor choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Functional, Inexpensive, Stylish, June 16, 2010

This review is from: Twin / Full Wood & Metal Convertible Futon Bunk Bed (Bunkbed)
I bought this bed/futon for my daughter's room. After comparing prices with local furniture stores and at Wal-mart, I found this bed set much less expensive than any other set I looked at. Even after paying the over 100 dollar shipping charge, the cost of the bed was less than local stores could offer.

It was relatively easy to set up. It took me less than an hour. Very few tools are needed beyond a screwdriver. It takes at least 2 people to set up the loft on the futon frame.

The bed is made of metal with a wood "veneer" on the four main posts. The upper bunk and lower futon courch seat is securely anchored to the four posts by metal screws. The upper and lower portions sit upon 4 vertical bolts. (It takes two people (three is better) to lift the upper bed on the lower frame.) Once set up, the bed is fairly sturdy, although it does sway a bit with my daughter in the upper bunk. I do not get the sense that the bed is unstable however; all bunk beds sway a bit. My daughter says the only thing she does not like about the bed is the ladder - it hurts her bare feet to climb to the upper loft.

The lower futon bed/seat is purchased separately. It easily folds out to become a spacious bed. It has a floor rest in the middle of the pull-out frame for added strength and stability. There is nothing flimsy about the futon support - it is strong and very functional.

I like the color of the bed and the simplicity of style. Much more elaborate and stylish lofts can be purchased, but at a much greater cost. My daughter likes the futon, as she can have a friend sleep-over and use the lower level.

My bed frame had some parts missing - hardware screws. I contacted the company in New York, and they sent the missing parts. There was some confusion on the exact parts, since the instructions provided with the bed did not exactly match the model of the bed!

This is a very heavy item and thus the shipping costs are high. If you can buy locally, you save over 100 dollars in shipping.

This would have garnered 5 of 5 stars had the parts been present and the instructions appropriate to the bed. I give the company credit in working with me to get the replacement parts.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous, bad quality., July 14, 2011
This review is from: Twin / Full Wood & Metal Convertible Futon Bunk Bed (Bunkbed)
We have had this barely 2 years. Paid $250 at Big Lots.

Out of the box, there were 8 "wooden" posts, a few badly welded bars, and several dozen bolts, washers, and caps. All that's needed for assembly is 2 hex wrenches (included).

It assembled easily enough.

After 1 year of light use (by light I mean that nobody regularly slept on the top bunk, and there was no jumping or partying or other nonsense allowed on the bottom), one of the welds on the top bunk rail broke. This meant that any time someone tried to climb onto the top, the small vertical bar centered in the side rail could catch clothing or jab the person. We discontinued use of the top bunk.

About 6 months after that I decided to move it across the room and at this time discovered that 2 of the weak welds on the bottom frame had broken. It would no longer work in "futon" position but worked as a full bed.

Today I discovered one of the bottom bars hanging completely loose, both welds on the side having snapped. The frame and mattress sag.

I had 2 small boys using this bed. Not allowed to jump on it or wobble it back and forth or do anything strenuous. This bed had visibly low quality right from the start. I wish we'd returned it then.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great bunk bed at a great price, November 8, 2009

This review is from: Twin / Full Wood & Metal Convertible Futon Bunk Bed (Bunkbed)
I almost bought a futon bunk bed at twice the price and half the quality, then luckily stumbled onto this product. I knew the moment I started opening the shipping carton, which was packed with extreme care, this was going to be a great product. If you are that careful packing your product you must have a lot of pride in your product. When assembling the product you immediately sense there were no corners cut when designing this bunk bed. It is attractive, functional and very study. It's just a great product for what you pay.
