OMG, this was horrible. The "heroine" (and I use the word loosely) has sex with the twin brother of the guy she's been lusting after for months but hasn't worked up the guts to talk to yet. She finds out it was his twin, goes back and has sex with the twin again, then a couple of hours later hooks up with the "hero."...

4.0 out of 5 stars Jasmine Haynes is a writer to watch!, August 3, 2005

This review is from: Twin Peaks (Paperback)
Twin Peaks is a collection of three stories that includes Wedding Surprise by Susan Johnson and Double the Pleasure and Skin Deep by Jasmine Haynes.

In Wedding Surprise by Susan Johnson teacher Sophie Piper had been lusting after Coach Jake Finn for awhile. When she gets the chance at a friend's wedding to make her sexy dreams of Jake come true she jumps right into bed with him, little realizing that it's actually his twin brother Jasper. She soon realizes her error and her feelings for Jake haven't changed but now that it looks like she's finally got a chance with him how does she tell him that she ended up with his brother?
Susan Johnson's stories are always steamy and Wedding Surprise is no exception. I had a little trouble with the brother switch but I still enjoyed Wedding Surprise and fans of Susan Johnson will enjoy this short story.

Jasmine Haynes' Double the Pleasure and Skin Deep are by far the best stories in this collection and focuses on twin sisters Kirby and Kristin Prescott. In Double the Pleasure Kristin Prescott has been in love with her boss, Ross Sloan, for a long time. However Kristin has always been the shy and overlooked twin. In order to make her fantasies of Ross come true she pretends to be Kirby and seduces him. But once she become involved in a passionate affair with him how does she tell him that she's really his reliable secretary? Or does Ross already know? Skin Deep is Kirby's story. For two years Kirby has been having a "phone relationship" with Jack Taylor. Now Jack is moving to the same city as Kirby and is determined to make their relationship more than just talking. Kirby finds herself falling for Jack but after a devastating relationship she's afraid to let Jack inside her heart. Jasmine Haynes, who also writes as Jennifer Skully and JB Skully is quickly becoming a writer to watch. Her stories are sensual but the sensuality doesn't overload the emotional connection between the main characters. Readers who are new to Jasmine Haynes will enjoy these stories so much that they will find themselves looking for her other titles.

This book consists of 3 novellas about twins.

4 stars for WEDDING SURPRISE by Susan Johnson.
Great fun. Fun characters, neat guys, surprising predicament, neat ending.

For a list of my reviews of other Susan Johnson books, see my 3 star review of "Hot Property" posted 9/30/08.

4 stars for SKIN DEEP by Jasmine Haynes.
This was different from typical romance novels. The hero was short and bald, and they had an unusual relationship. They had never met in person but had a phone sex and phone friend relationship for many months until he came to her town to meet her. I was surprised that I continued to think about this story and the characters days later.

3 stars for DOUBLE THE PLEASURE by Jasmine Haynes.
Entertaining, not great, but still fun to read.
CAUTION SPOILER:
I did not like that Kirby had a conversation with Ross with the door open. It was obvious that there would be a crisis if Kristen overheard them which was what happened.

To date, I've read one other book by Jasmine Haynes. My 3 star review of "Open Invitation" Copyright 2006 was posted 6/21/08.

Sexual content: strong. Setting: current day U.S. Copyright: 2005. Genre: contemporary romance.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Steamy Hot Set Of Stories!!!, August 1, 2005
This review is from: Twin Peaks (Paperback)
Ms. Johnson and Ms. Haynes have come together to create a fun and steamy read that is as hot as a true summer day!

Ms. Johnson's story "Wedding Surprise" is a story about a school teacher who knows exactly what she wants. What she wants is handsome football coach Jake Finn. One wedding, one misunderstanding, and one handsome hunk later leaves Sofie with a problem. Can she really trust her heart to Jake even though he's all she's ever wanted?

Ms. Haynes has contributed two stories to this read. They are the stories of Kristin and Kirby...twin sisters who find the man of their dreams in the most unlikely places.

Ms. Johnson's story is the shortest of the three and as a result not as well fleshed out as it could have been if it had a larger page count.

Ms. Haynes has created some very yummy heros. What makes her guys unusual...they aren't perfect. As a result the romance in both stories are more entertaining. In any event they are fun stories and Kristin and Kirby are very unusual ladies and perfect companions for their loves.

This was a fast-paced read that is red hot and entertaining. Ms. Johnson has long been a favorite of mine and I think that Ms. Haynes has a wonderful future ahead of her as far as her writing goes. In any event I highly recommend this read if you like hot spicy romances with very likeable characters.

I am an avid reader and especially erotic romance! I love Susan Johnson, and this book teamed up with Jasmine Haynes was a great book and hard to put down as is most of Susan Johnson's books. I highly recommend if you like romance, especially erotic romance. Wish she would write more, I've read everything she has written so far & look forward to more!

3.0 out of 5 stars Jasmine Haynes' stories are great, December 12, 2008
This review is from: Twin Peaks (Paperback)

* "Wedding Surprise" by Susan Johnson.
OMG, this was horrible. The "heroine" (and I use the word loosely) has sex with the twin brother of the guy she's been lusting after for months but hasn't worked up the guts to talk to yet. She finds out it was his twin, goes back and has sex with the twin again, then a couple of hours later hooks up with the "hero." When the hero finds out, he's angry, which makes her even more angry. He ends up apologizing, but she never does.

Gak. Ick. Yuck. I loathed this woman. 100 pages, and probably a good 50% is sex scenes, but they're pretty dull, even though the rest of the pages are the heroine telling her best friend how good the twin is in bed (whereupon the friend decides to check it out for herself). Did I say yuck already?

**** "Double the Pleasure" by Jasmine Haynes.
I think I figured out the reason for the first story. Berkley's using Susan Johnson's name to sell this book, in hopes that it'll get Jasmine Haynes, who's a much better writer, noticed. Not sure it'll work, though, if everybody quits reading after that first horrendous story.

Anyway. Secretary (admin asst) is in lust with her boss, but, well, he's her boss, so she doesn't do anything about it, until a woman calls to say she can't meet him at a bar, so the heroine decides to meet him there, posing as her twin sister.

Kind of a simple plot, but it works, we get some nice emotions from the characters, and boy, does this one look great when compared with the first one.

****½ "Skin Deep" by Jasmine Haynes.
Ah-ha! Finally checked the author bio. Jasmine Haynes = J. B. Skully, whose Max series has been highly recommended to me.

The heroine in this story is the twin of the heroine in the previous one. She's been having phone sex with the hero for 2 years, and finally meets him in person.

Like the first story in the book, there's a LOT of sex, but this time, there's a point to it. This heroine can only connect through sex. She's been burned once before (and it's not the oh, my high school boyfriend stood me up--I can never trust a man again, which makes me roll my eyes. It's reasonable for her to feel that way.)

Pretty much the story is about the difference between dominant (which the hero IS) and domineering (which he isn't, but the ex who hurt her was). There are some really great scenes about the nature of control in a relationship.

And, as a plus, the hero is shorter and balding. He's not a troll--he's got a good body, but he's not the usual 6'5" with flowing locks.

Just a really good story. It's a shame these two got classified with a dull story like Johnson's, because sex is all that one has going for it. These have an actual story. *sigh* Another author on my to-look-for list. Darnitall.

4.0 out of 5 stars A yummy steamy read, July 2, 2007
Twin Peaks consists of three stories - one written by Susan Johnson and two written by Jasmine Haynes. Each story deals with twins.

In Susan Johnson's story "Wedding Surprise", it's the hero who has a twin. Sophie Piper is a teacher and she's been hot for Jake Finn, the football coach, since she met him six weeks ago. They're both at the same wedding and Sophie decides to take advantage of the situation. What she doesn't know is that Jake has a twin, Jasper. And that guy she's just seduced? Well, that's not Jake... I found this to be an enjoyable read - great dialog and steamy sex.

"Double the Pleasure" by Jasmine Haynes tells the story of Kristin Prescott, the shy twin who generally fades in to the background, and who has the hots for her boss Ross Sloan. To give herself confidence, Kristin pretends that she's her sister, Kirby and goes after Ross. Though this seems to be a common plot in twin stories, this was a fun read. My only problem with this story is a minor nit - I don't know of too bosses who use formal names for their assistant ("Miss Prescott"). I know, it works as part of the story, but it bothered me.

"Skin Deep" also by Jasmine Haynes is the prize in this trilogy. Jasmine is super confident. After being burned, she likes her relationships casual. And the man she really enjoys is Jack Taylor, a sales rep for her cosmetics company. They've been having phone sex and now Jack wants to meet her. Bravo to Ms. Haynes for creating a hero who doesn't have a lot of hair or height, but is still a sexy man. This was a nice change from your typical hero and a terrific read.

I bought this book because I enjoyed Somebody's Lover by Jasmine Haynes and wanted to see if that was a fluke or if Jasmine Haynes is really that good. After reading this book, I've discovered she's really that good - I'm off to find more of her books!

4.0 out of 5 stars In your face sex., May 13, 2007
OK, I like sex too but how about some believable story to go with it. The first story, "Wedding Surprise", is just too unbelievable and not a turn on in the least. She mistakenly sleeps with the wrong brother and the other brother forgives her and they live happily ever after? Hmm. Now, the 2nd and 3rd stories of twins Kirby and Kristin fare somewhat better. Kirby is a fantastic heroine and her boss, Ross, is so sexy and romantic that I overlook the fact that she pretends to be her sister to get him to sleep with her. Hot! Kristin and Jack's story was straight up in your face sex. No sneaky-deaky. Just two hot and horny people doing what our bodies were made for.

4.0 out of 5 stars three extremely hot novellas, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Twin Peaks (Paperback)
"Wedding Surprise" by Susan Johnson. Schoolteacher Sofie Piper is very attracted to football coach Jake Finn. He feels the same way. However, Sofie believes she has reasons to doubt the sincerity of the coach; he needs a Hail Mary to persuade the woman he loves that she can trust him with her heart.

"Double the Pleasure" by Jasmine Haynes. Thirty years old secretary Kristin Prescott loves her boss Ross Sloan, but he only seems interested in her spreadsheets not her sheets. Not wanting to break the organizational rules on fraternizing between workers, but needing to reach Ross, reticent Kristin pretends to be her outgoing sexy twin sister Kirby. She succeeds in getting Ross' love but is heartbroken as he has fallen in love with portrayal of her sister.

"Skin Deep" by Jasmine Haynes. Kirby Prescott is both happy and sick of her sister so in love with Ross. Deep in her heart she is elated because she loves her twin, but also is jealous as she wants her own Ross. To alleviate her current sadness, Kirby decides she needs a taste of Jack Taylor. Though in the past he has settled for crumbs, Jack wants more this time from the woman he loves, but how to convince her without being thrown out with the dirty water.

These are three extremely hot novellas that the audience of erotic romance will enjoy. The use of profanity adds color to the fine story lines. Though "Wedding Surprise" never fully develops the lead couple's transitional relationship, fans will enjoy their antics and especially take immense pleasure from Jasmine Haynes' twin billing.

This was okay. I wish Susan Johnson would stick to historical erotic romance. This is hot, good sex, a little hokey. Not my favorite. Light read, quick read. Hope this helps.
