About the Brand

Since 1706, Twinings has been at the forefront of the tea trade. Customers in more than 100 countries enjoy Twinings products, and not just the popular traditional favorites: Twinings now includes products such as fruit and herbal infusions, aromatic teas, and iced teas. These fresh flavors reflect a worldwide trend toward a healthier and more varied lifestyle. The new flavors are as successful as the traditional ones, because Twinings prepares them using skills acquired through three centuries of experience. After quenching thirsts for so many generations, no one knows better than Twinings how to deliver a drink that's in perfect condition. Although British-based, and still operating in England, Twinings also has plants in North Carolina and Calcutta, India. Success in the competitive worldwide tea market was confirmed in 1972 (and again in 1977) when Twinings became the first tea company to win a Queen's Award for Export.

Product Description

Twinings Earl Grey Tea, tea bags, is fine black tea expertly blended with the citrus fruit flavor of bergamot, to deliver an uplifting tea with a unique floral aroma and refreshing taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a really funny story February 18, 2008
Flavor Name:6 Pack|Size Name:50 Bags
I only drink coffee in the morning and usually only one cup. I'm a pharmacist and used to drink coffee all day long for a little pick-me-up when my energy flagged, but the coffee sometimes bothered my stomach since I drank so much. My doctor suggested I switch to tea.
I started drinking L****n tea, you know the one in the yellow and red box, what did I know about tea? I was working at the time with a young Chinese man (a friend of my son's) and he was a Star Trek fan, as am I. When I went out for a container of tea one day I asked if he wanted anything and he asked for Earl Grey. I asked why and he told me that Capt. Pickard on Gen II always ordered "Earl Grey hot" from the replicator. I laughed as I had seen that too and just never connected with the brand and had one also.
Well, I liked it so much that it became my favorite tea. I still have English Breakfast and some Chinese teas sometimes, but I must have Earl Grey with my dinner. Sometimes people wonder at my "tea sophistication" and I don't tell them where my preference actually comes from.If they only knew.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ruined a good thing! February 21, 2012
Flavor Name:6 Pack|Size Name:50 Bags
Have been drinking Twinings Earl Gray for the last 10 years or so. However the last batch from Amazon was so mild and lacking the flavor that I had grown to love, that it was almost bland. Do not know how genuine the report on Wikipedia is, but it seems Twininigs, in their infinite wisdom has tweaked the original formula in April 2011. Going by my experience, it sounds about right.
Sad when a company has to tweak a great and well loved flavor, and still sell it as 'classic'.

I will not be ordering it, till they bring back the original 'classic'

Shame Twinings.

Update: And just so you folks know..Twinings had said that they would send me a pack direct, to make up for my dissatisfaction. It is over 3 months and I am still waiting. I will not hold my breath. Looks like they changed their customer service formula too!

3.0 out of 5 stars A 'light' black tea February 22, 2012
Flavor Name:6 Pack| Size Name:50 Bags|Amazon Verified Purchase
Upon ordering this tea I thought it would be a strong and dark earl grey. Instead I received a tea that is very bland and in order to improve on the flavor I have to double up on my bags.

This tea is about half as strong as Bigelow's earl grey blend.

2.0 out of 5 stars CAVEAT EMPTOR! TEA LACKS FULL FLAVOR!!!!! February 6, 2007
Flavor Name:6 Pack|Size Name:50 Bags
It's not the regular, strong Earl Grey Twinings I come to love. This version lacks strength and flavor - two teabags are needed for regular strength tea. It's even states on the box - Light Flavour Strenght (2 leaves out of five). Beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars aromatic soothing taste August 6, 2012
Flavor Name:6 Pack|Size Name:50 Bags
With it's subtle orange flavour and aromatic soothing taste and feel, this is one of my favourite teas. Very soothing for a sore throat. Twinings makes Earl Grey neither too light not too intense making for a very relaxing satisfying experience with the bergamot and spicy fragrance and taste. A great afternoon and early evening tea.Variations which are also recommended are the slightly more woody and more fragrant Wizzotsky Earl Grey.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Earl Grey By Far August 27, 2008
By soveery
Flavor Name:6 Pack| Size Name:20 Bags|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bergamot is the name of both a North American herb, and an oily extract of a specific variety of Seville oranges. It is this orange peel extract that is used in perfumes, and also in flavoring Earl Grey tea.

Twinings is the best Earl Grey of any of the many brands that we've tried. Aromatic and fine, the scent of bergamot is apparent as soon as you break the cellophane wrapper. If you prefer Twining's loose tea in the tin, that is just as good. A little sugar and milk bring out the complex flavors. (With boiling water, of course! None of that bath water that's been sitting in a coffee urn for two hours.)

We buy the six-box package, on the six-month automatic refill plan, and like that a lot. The tea stays nice and fresh in the sealed boxes until we open them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a fan June 24, 2008
Flavor Name:6 Pack|Size Name:50 Bags
My favorite of the traditional Earl Grey teas is Bigelow. Personally, I find Twinings too light and a bit sour. My favorite Earl Grey is made by Revolution, and includes lavender as an ingredient. If you want an Earl Grey that doesn't hold back on the bergamont, and you don't mind some extra tannins, I'd suggest Rishi or Tazo. If you want to try an Earl with a unique citrus zing, go for Stash Double Bergamont. I think it includes grapefruit flavoring (just my perception). Lady Grey by Twinings also tastes great, and includes small blue flowers, which you can see in the loose leaf version. Cool visual effect against the dark black tea leaves.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's not Bigelow August 31, 2007
Flavor Name:6 Pack| Size Name:50 Bags|Amazon Verified Purchase
I got hooked on Bigelow's Earl Gray tea. I thought I'd try Twinings verson. Twinings is milder in flavor, but still very good, and a great value too.
