5.0 out of 5 stars Tears Stream Down My Face, May 6, 2001
This review is from: The Twinkie Squad (Library Binding)
I am a voracious reader. Although I enjoy many books, I can honestly say that there are precious few books that make me laugh uproariously.

Gordon Korman is a brilliant author. My first exposure to his writing was in purchasing THE WAR WITH MR. WIZZLE from a book club just to help a class earn some credit. Never heard of it and thought I would read it if very bored.

Well, the day I read that book changed my life.

I have since become a collector of Gordon Korman books. His Bruno and Boots series are brilliant and never fail to make me laugh until tears stream down my face. The vivid visual gags in these books make me laugh without fail.

When I saw this book- the TWINKIE SQUAD, I did not think that it would compare with the BRUNO and BOOTS series.

Well, I was wrong.

Doug Fairchild is a crazy diplomat's kid that just does not fit. He causes chaos wherever he goes and when he drops into the life of a struggling city kid, well, the roller coaster begins.

I have read this book 5 times now.

Every time I get started with it, I think I will be bored. Surely I will not laugh THIS time.

And when Douglas gets into the basement scene where he is giving a tour, I undoubtedly end up doubled up in laughter unable to stop. My stomach will often hurt I laugh so hard.

This book is a treasure.

If you like it, get every book in the Bruno and Boots series too. They are too valuable to pass up- before they totally disappear.

The Twinkie Squad was one of the best Gordon Korman books I have ever read. It was full of humor, excitement and it had a great plot!! I'm in 5th grade, and I definitely recommend this book to anyone ages 9-12.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comic characters address stereotypes and school life, January 21, 2006

Teacher Creature (British Columbia, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Twinkie Squad (Paperback)
I am a teacher in British Columbia, Canada and I have to say, the students love this book. I have introduced it for a number of years in a literature circle setting, where kids get to discuss books. Both the kids and their parents really appreciate a book with both great comic relief and serious issues, such as bullying and learning disabilities addressed. The kids simply howl at some of the antics of Douglas and his "friends". I have had many parents thank me for choosing such a fantastic book! I simply cannot believe it is officially out of print!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Vivid After All This Time, February 1, 2005

Read it years and years ago in middle school. Loved every letter of it, reread it over and over... no wonder I aced every quiz on it. It's funny in a clean, good, not-slapstick or stupid but a humorous way. Very good description, well-developed characters, G-R-R-R-R-R-E-A-T plot... and my favorite lesson, contrary to the one preached on t.v. shows for tweens that everyone has what it takes to be popular but it's not worth it, but that there are some cool and some "geeks", and it's always okay to be the latter: We had more fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Twinkie Squad rocks the HOUSE!, July 21, 2000
By A Customer
I thought this book was rockin'. It is my favorite book of all time. I love everyone of the characters in this novel, and I think Gordon Korman is a genius. This book is so funny, I needed to make several hospital trips for some good ol' fashion respirator treatment. It was worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Twinkie Squad, March 19, 2009
This review is from: The Twinkie Squad (Paperback)
This book was so funny, yet it had a good moral. The moral was definitely exposed as saying don't use prejudice. I really liked the school play part where Douglas got dressed in clown pants by accident. My favorite characters were the Richardsons because of their silliness and those cheesy smiles they always had throughout the book. You would enjoy this book if you were into comedy and enjoy surprises in books, this is certainly the type of novel you'd want to read.

I read this book when I was in sixth grade and I thought it was hilarious. I'm a senior in high school now and this is still one of my favorite books. It's such a funny book. I'll just burst out laughing THINKING about some parts in this. Definitely get it--you will not regret it. It is so awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frollicking Amongst The Bullrushes, February 18, 2002
This review is from: The Twinkie Squad (Paperback)
Only a few books can keep me laughing each time I read them. The Fudge books; Who Invited The Undertaker?; Maxie, Rosie, and Earl: Partners In Grime; Marshmallow Muscles, Bannana Brainstorms; and The Twinkie Squad.

All the characters are realistic and based in reality. All the situations are realistic and based in reality. That's what makes it so funny. Better than many of the kid movies or comics, this is funnier than reading seventy Archie comics. There're at least two laugh-out-loud jokes per page. It's like watching The Nanny, I Love Lucy, Good News, or the first season of the Parkers and Moesha.

Excellence in its purest form.

5.0 out of 5 stars It was great!, July 27, 1998
By A Customer
I think it was great because I am in to humarouse books and this book was just that. If you don't like or aren't into commedies I don't suggest this book. But those who are you have got to read this. I'll tell you a little about this book, but I won't spoil it for you. Its about this dude named Doug, whos Dad is ambasador of the United States. But he insists that he's a Pefkakian, and when ever he gets in trouble he says "It sure would be bad if I were American, but I am a Pefkakian and I have no need to worry." When Doug gets on The Twinkie Squad (the book will explain [hint]<;->) he turns it into a club. Soon the Twinkies are Grand Knites Of The Exalted Karpoozie. Then they have the princible in a mid life crises and the school smelling like fish.
