My 3 year old son loves this CD. Even after listening to the same CD 3-4 times a day, I even enjoy it. First thing in the morning, my son asks if we can listen to "Bill" (he doesn't have the Burl down yet). This album has a very nice mix of music and Burl is as entertaining as ever.

"A Twinkle In Your Eye" is a compilation issued by Sony Wonder, Sony's childrens music imprint along with Legacy, Sony's reissue imprint, features 14 songs from the 1940s-early 1950s including the following songs only in print on this CD: Two Little Trains, The Lollipop Tree, Old Witch, Old Witch, The Little Turtle, The Moon's The Northwind's Cooky, and Where Have You Been? all in their original mono form. The rest of these tracks do appear on other CDs available here in Amazon such as Wee Cooper O'Fife, Lavender Cowboy, and Cowboy's Lament all on Wayfaring Stranger on Collectables and other CDs available right here at Amazon, The Donut Song, which is also on "Little White Duck and Other Childrens Favorites" in rechanneled stereo and on the CD reissue of "Return of The Wayfaring Stranger" on Collectables in its mono form (the Donut Song as it appears on here is mono), and these tracks which all appear on "Little White Duck" in rechanneled form while these tracks on this CD are in their original mono form: Mr. Froggie Went a Courtin', Mother Goose Songs (a medley of Mother Goose nursery rhymes), Mr. Rabbit, and The Little Engine That Could. Burl Ives music is for all generations so this CD is essential.

What a thrill to find this CD.I grew up listening to Burl Ives,and still can see myself dancing around the house to songs like: Old Witch Old Witch and Lollypop Tree. In fact,my Mom still has the old lp record,and my 2 year old son loves to dance to the same Burl Ives songs and music,thats why this CD was a "must"for me.It's a timeless classic for young children,my son and I are proof of that!

I am extremely happy with this CD. The songs are so catchy. I bought it for the kids, but I love it just as much. I am singing the songs outloud all day long! These songs have great lyrics sung by the beautiful voice of Burl Ives.

It's been said that Burl Ives travelled all over the United States, and remembered a lot of folk tunes along the way. Well, this is a great collection of them! My husband (the big burly ex-Marine) began to sing songs to the kids, like the witty "Lollipop Tree," the fun "Old Witch," the adventurous "Two Little Trains" and, long into the night with the most fussy baby, "The Moon's the North Wind's Cooky." I'd sit there thinking that he was making them up as he went along, they were so natural and sweet. It's good to see CD's like this come around-- yes, the Shel Silverstein type poems turned to music has it's place, but so do these songs-- a mix of dreamy fantasy and witty reality all in one set.

I bought this CD for Burl Ives' version of The Lollipop Tree for the sole enjoyment of my three year old daughter. I have listened to it several times with my daughter and going on her feedback we skip through about half.
The recordings are of generally good quality, ranging from 1949 to 1965.
Given Burl Ives extensive catalogue it is a slightly strange compilation of tunes and some of them seem out of place on ostensibly a children's CD, ie Cowboy's Lament and Wee Cooper of Fife.

One of his best for the whole family! You learn fun songs with his amazing humor and voice!

I can remember playing the LP of Burl Ives in the 70's when I was a little girl. My favorite song was Old Witch, Old Witch . I can't find that song on any other album. It now has become one of my daughters' favorite song. His voice is like no one elses. You will love this CD.

This truly does put a "twinkle in your eye" and the eye of the child who is listening with you. I play this over and over for my 3 month old grandson. We love it and he loves to hear the songs, even when Grannie sings along with the CD. This truly is a must for anyone with small children. I plan to buy each of my grandchildren one for their own home so they can listen to it anytime and not just at Grannie's house.
