Facinating end times story from the turn of the century,
By SM "sm-1" (Washington, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In the Twinkling of an Eye (Paperback)
If you have a chance to get your hands on a copy of this gem of a book, I highly recommend you do so. I believe this book was written in 1918, and it is very interesting to read a story of the rapture that was written so long ago. Set in London, the language is writing style is definately from that time period, and little tidbits about horse-drawn cabs, lighting lanterns when they enter a house, etc. really add to the feel and charm of this book. If you love the currently popular "Left Behind" books, I think you will really enjoy this book too.

In the Twinkling of an Eye,

This review is from: In the Twinkling of an Eye (Paperback)
This first book, in a two book set, covers the topic of Christ's second coming. Written in a style that will remind readers of the current "Left Behind" series, one is brought into the lives of several individuals and how they come into contact with the teachings of Christ's second coming. The Passover scene late in the text is excellant. In addition, reading how a newspaper editor "researches" the facts, researches the preparations for the rebuilding of the temple in Israel, and his method of sharing the news is great. In his words, PERHAPS TODAY!

Reading this book was an incredible experience for me. As a new Christian, I learned many things about the second coming of Christ. It could happen in the twinkling of an eye. Not only did the book give me new information, it is also a beautiful story of love. I am sorry to see it is no longer in print. Everyone should have the opportunity to read "In The Twinkling of an Eye".

In the first chapter, the Queen is referenced. Victoria died in 1901, so this book reflects late 19th/early 20th century thought. A newspaper editor (and others) come to believe the Rapture is imminent. Best part is the description of Passover, but there are many interesting "prophecies" that warrant consideration. It's fairly well-written, and an easy read. "The Mark of the Beast" is the continuation of the tale. Wish I had that as well! Still hasn't convinced me to become a Christian.

Should be read by anyone who enjoys fiction. Enjoyable, entertaining, fun-reading, and thought-provoking. I would not put this book in the same category as the Left Behind series, as at least one review does. There are very few similarities between those books and "Twinkling."

A Book ahead of its time!,

Not to long after becoming a Christian I found these two books "In the Twinkling of an Eye" and "The Mark of the beast" by Sidney Watson at a library book sale. They were just sitting there waiting for me. As far as I am concerned God reserved them for me.
These books are both online in full, so search them out if you are unable to buy a copy, and enjoy two wonderful books. My husband and I had just became Christians and we both became aware of our strong desire and interest in prophecy at the "End Times". In the book "In the Twinkling of an Eye" the writer is amazing and so far ahead of the time date they were written. They apply today. Of course our technology is far advanced, but the message of The Rapture remains unchanged, just as God's Word remains unchanged. This book leaves a person eagerly awaiting the Rapture. I feel they are books that one will reread because there is a depth to them that I do not see in the christian fiction today for the most part. Also teaching that brings our hero to the saving knowage of Christ is interesting. The observations of the hero concerning christians are intriiqing. I only wish that I could find all the books written with this theme. I am sure there are many others besides the left behind books, and older books perhaps. I have searched the internet, but found nothing so far. The first book is the best to me, but the second book has very intereting aspects. One is when the people flee into the church to find out what is happeninbg, at first they are responsive, but very soon there is a angry growl from the people. This, it would seem, is a spirit of lawlessness that comes upon them. If you are interested in the Second Coming of The Lord Jesus Christ, these two books are a must read! May God Bless you. |
