Easy to swallow, free of common allergens, August 15, 2011
These capsules contain 99mg of potassium (in potassium citrate and potassium aspartate). Apparently, 99mg is the strongest potassium supplement you can get without a prescription. One pill is 99mg or 3% of your daily value. This isnt a lot, but if you are willing to take several capsules, it does help supplement a bit. Dont be fooled by potassium supplements that say 595mg or some other large amount on the bottle. What you really need to look for is the "elemental" amount of potassium, which wont be more then 99mg if its not a prescription strength.
If you consider that an average banana has about 400mg of potassium, then about 3-4 of these capsules equals eating one banana. If you take four with each meal, thats like having 3 extra large bananas per day which is quite a decent amount. The capsules are fairly small and they are easy to swallow.
Other ingredients: Gelatin, Potato Starch, Purified Water, Magnesium Stearate, Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT), Silica.
Bottle says that its free of common allergens (no corn, soy, yeast, rice, barley, wheat, lactose, milk, citrus, fish and egg products.) No added flavorings, sugars, salt, artificial sweeteners, colorings, preservatives, or salicylates.
Overall I would recommend this supplement if you are willing to take several capsules. Otherwise, no matter what brand you go with, it wont really make a difference if you just take one a day. In that case, you'd need a prescription strength product. One additional thing you can do is buy a salt substitute that contains potassium. Many salt substitutes are actually mostly potassium chloride powder and can give you a substantial amount of potassium in a small portion.
