2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better
The story is good, the characters are fine but the writing leaves much to be desired. Ms Casavant's editor has done her a grave disservice by failing to rein in the writer's fondness for adjectives, flowery descriptives and tired metaphors. This writer has talent; Twist of Fate doesn't showcase it.

I'm not a big reader, but I had a hard time putting
this one down. I found myself reflecting on the
characters as if they were part of my life.

Great Read

I picked up the book in the morning and simple could not put it down until I had finished it. Wonderful character development and the story line held my interest from page one until the very end. Casavant ranks with Radclyffe and Good which puts her in the top lesbian romance writers. Buy it today!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rare Beauty, December 20, 2004

I started reading this book last night and couldn't put it down until the wee hours this morning after I read the last page. After falling in love with Madison Williams, Lauren Taylor finally admits to herself she's gay. There's only one catch... Lauren is married to a US Senator who is planning to run for President. Torn between doing what's right for herself and what's right for others, Lauren makes herself, her husband, and Madison miserable for years before she decides what to do.

I could easily relate to characters on both sides of this equation. Superb book. Very highly recommended. I don't rate many books as 5 stars, but would have given this one 6 if that had been an option.

I bought this book on the strength of other reviews. Bah! It was so bad I couldn't finish it. I read tons of fan fiction (this book being one such example), and I wouldn't even read it for free online. I never bought the character's motivations or actions. For something about presidential politics that's a better read, try Madam President.

It's a good book to read. Especially on a road trip. You won't want to put the book down. It does contain infedility so not for everyone. It also gives you in sight on what it would be like to run for office.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Story by an Excellent Writer, January 12, 2006
This review is from: Twist of Fate (Paperback)
Twist of Fate by Jessica Casavant is a wonderful romance novel full of heart wrenching drama and romance. This novel is one in a series of novels written by Casavant that chronicles the lives of a group of friends living in Boston. Casavant tells the story of each friend's trials and triumps in finding love, healing and relying on the strength of her friends. Twist of Fate tells the story of Dr. Madison Williams and her love roller coaster ride with journalist and soon to be first lady, Lauren Taylor. I love the way the novel begins right in the middle of the story. This is an excellent technique for getting the reader entranced in the story. The reader can't decide whether she wants to go forward to find out what will happen or go back to the beginning to find out how we got to this point in the story. Of course, Casavant takes us back first.

From the moment Madison laid eyes on Lauren she knew there was some strange connection between the two. The feeling was mutual. After finding out that Lauren is married, Madison tries to distance herself from the painfully attractive woman, but Lauren finds clever ways to spend bits of time with Madison. A relationship soon develops despite all the obstacles that scream this is a bad idea, and as always happens in situations like this, Lauren is reluctant to leave her husband and the relationship ends - quite devastatedly I might add.

Years later the two are left to manuever through an unexpected threat from the press to reveal their secret lesbian affair right before the announcement from Lauren's husband to run for the presidency. Lauren is placed squarely in the middle and must decide to follow her heart or her loyalty. She is in such a mess even I couldn't figure out this one was going to end. Casavant is an excellent story teller who has a way of wrapping you up in the novel and taking you on a wonderful journey with wonderful characters.

Excellent book that I couldn't put down. Casavant was brilliant in her descriptions. Great story line! I look forward to future works. It will remind you of when you fell in love. There is a happy ending. I was especially fond of the professional characters who happened to be lesbian. Classy!
