Similar To The Original,

This review is from: The Twisted Claw (Hardy Boys #18) (Hardcover)
This review concerns the revised 1969 edition. Frank and Joe help their father with his case concerning the thefts of pieces from a pirate treasure that had been on display in various museums. The investigation leads Frank and Joe to a mysterious ship called The Black Parrot. This is a very good book; although, I preferred the original edition. I thought that the best part of both books was when Frank and Joe disguise themselves and sail aboard The Black Parrot. Unfortunately, in the revised edition it lasts for only about 25 pages, while in the original version, that part lasted for a number of chapters. The revised edition is an exciting book and I think that most fans of the series would enjoy it.

The Hardy Boys yet again get caught in a super thriller that almost cost them their lives. The Empire of the Twisted Claw tries to smuggle out all of the twisted claw treasure in musuems in the U.S. The treasure was owned by the famous pirate Cortal, the founder of The Empire of the Twisted Claw. Can the Hardy Boys stop the gang from taking all of the treasure, and what is the link with the Black and Yellow Parrot? Nobody can pass up a book like this one!!!

Museum Mystery,
By Lonnie E. Holder "The Review's the Thing" (Columbus, Indiana, United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Twisted Claw (Hardy Boys #18) (Hardcover)
This Hardy Boys book is more interesting than the previous two books in this series. However, the flavor is that of a 1930s story.
Someone is stealing artifacts from various museums and collections around the country. Each of the thefts involves specific items featuring a twisted claw. Fenton, Frank and Joe Hardy are soon in pursuit of a sophisticated gang of criminals who plot their thefts with great care, and transport their stolen goods with even greater care. The boys soon find themselves on board a ship that is somehow involved in the thefts. In an even more bizarre twist, the boys find themselves on an island that appears to be the heart of some kind of strange criminal kingdom. During their journeys the Hardy boys find themselves in danger numerous times, with death just inches away. Through a combination of audacious luck and skill the Hardy boys survive kidnapping and plane problems to stay on the chase, with an ending that may not be possible in the world today. Though the Hardy Boys series is written in a relatively archaic fashion, as reading material for an increasingly younger audience they are excellent. The stories were once recommended for children ages 10 to 14. As children are exposed to more violence and seem to require greater levels of stimulation, the recommended age range has move to 9 to 12. I think any child capable of reading some of the challenging words in these books will enjoy them, regardless of how tame most of the action may be. Once a child has reached age 12 or so the stories may be of less interest, but given the combination of mystery and action, these books remain good safe choices for parents who want to know what their children are reading.

A Really Good Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Twisted Claw (Hardy Boys #18) (Hardcover)
This review concerns the original 1939 edition. Frank and Joe help their father track down a gang of smugglers and discover a secret island kingdom. This book was great; lots of mystery, lots of action, lots of suspence. The first 15 chapters are good, but the final 10 are excellent. At that point, Frank and Joe are hired on as crew members aboard the smuggler's ship. This book was very exciting; a must-read for all Hardy Boys fans.

The Hardy Boys are back in another big mystery. The twisted claw museum artifacts have been stolen and the Hardy Boys have to get them back. They have to risk their lives to find it. If you want to find out if they get it back you will have to read it. This is not a book to pass up.
