Del Amitri, may not be for everyone, infact I seriously douubt they will every make it big with the mass populous. This is a record for people who like good clean guitar playing and honest heart felt lyrics. It is a CD for people who miss honest rock and roll and I tired of the poor substitutes in this country. 3.0 out of 5 stars Does anyone know....
Does anyone know what the lyrics in Driving With the Brakes On is all about? It is very intriguing. The song is beautiful and I only gave this CD a 3 star because I haven't really listened to the rest of it because I am obsessed with this song.

This is a record for people who like good clean guitar playing and honest heart felt lyrics. It is a CD for people who miss honest rock and roll and I tired of the poor substitutes in this country. You won't see these guys opening for Cheryl Crow or The Smashing Pumpkins and I like them for that reason. I spent a year of my life with 4 of my closest friends listening to this CD everyday and I am still not tired of it and each song brings back memories. I can honestly tell you that if I could pick a sound track for my life this would be it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Del Amitri's best album to date!, September 26, 1998

This album has it all...juicy guitar licks, melodic acoustic ballads, and wonderful harmonies. And to top it off, the lyrics speak to many levels. I can't praise this effort highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tell Her This, December 4, 1999

I am a new listener of Del Amitri. My friend introduced me to them, he played this beautiful love song, and I just had to know who could write such lyrics. When he told me, I was like who? But now I am hooked. The song is beautiful, sensitive, and truthful. I can listen to it for hours on end. The rest of the CD is also very intriguing, but I don't think I will ever find a better lyric then "Tell her something in my heart neeeds her more then clowns need the laughter of the crowd" WOW! is all I can say. Thank you Jamie for exposing me to true artwork.

To the person who asked what this song is about...I am a firm believer that songs are about whatever they bring to your mind. I think the song is about abortion. Give it a listen again with that thought and see if it makes more sense to you.
It is without a doubt me favorite song on the CD.

If you like Del Amitri even a little bit, you will love this disc!
It is one of my favorites in their entire collection. It has just the right blend of music for intense listening, or casual background music. I would give it 6 stars if I could.
GET IT!

4.0 out of 5 stars outstanding, March 15, 2001
This review is from: Twisted (Audio CD)
I have been a Dels fan since "Waking Hours" and have yet to find a band that equals their quality of music. The great number of songs in their catalog is just astonishing. "Twisted" is another outstanding cd. I must admit I was not as taken with it at first listen as I was with "Change Everything". It had songs that immediately I was drawn to "Here and Now", "Roll To Me"(although this song needed to be longer), "Never Enough", "It's Never Too Late To Be Alone" and "Driving With The Brakes On". Now after many listenings I'm to the point that I wish the cd had many more songs. As I said it is simply an outstanding cd. I am also among those who have never figured out why this band isn't a superstar group. Oh I guess great songwriting and lyrics along with great musicians aren't what people look for today.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loads of melody, December 22, 1999

Currie and company somehow got the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s all "rolled" up into one amazing 54 minute CD. It's hard to figure out how the boys squeezed so much melody into the influx of ballads. Del Amitri(and particularly this cd) is perfect for the l960s, l970s, music lover looking for something new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Torn Hearts and Twisted Minds, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Twisted (Audio CD)
"Roll to Me" is a great song with Justin Currie offering the object of his affection a better deal. But I wish the radio stations would realize this isn't Del's only great song. The bitterness is back on songs like "Food for Songs" and "One Thing Left to Do" and so is the sarcasm on "Being Somebody Else", "It Might As Well Be You", and "It's Never too Late to Be Alone". "Tell Her This" and "Driving with the Brakes On" show Justin Currie's sensitive side. "Start with Me" features some bone-crunching guitar work from Iain Harvie and "Here and Now" features the same happy-go-lucky hooks that hide the sugarcoated tongue of acid.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Release!, June 13, 1998
This review is from: Twisted (Audio CD)
Beautiful music! "You can't change later, here and now", Del Amitri have a way of summing up how many of us feel today. "Driving With The Brakes On" and "It Might As Well Be You" are great ballad-esque songs that remind us that it is all right to be "only" human. Definite "must feel" music.

This is music that tells it like it is, which is 'twisted' and in more ways than one, sister. I'm a private dick, so I know about the seamy side of life, and so do these guys. It's like we've drunk in all the same bars and messed with all the same dames. Hey! Are these guys following me around or am I following them? Sometimes I'm frightened to look in the mirror, because I might see . . . Del Amitri.
