5.0 out of 5 stars Rick Estrin is the BEST, October 11, 2009
This review is from: Twisted (MP3 Download)
Rick Estrin shines again with his clever songwriting and unique personality imprinted all over this cd. There was never any doubt that rick was the genius behind his nightcats band with little charlie baty on guitar. Little Charlie is a virtuoso on guitar but it was always rick etsrins wit, humor, intelligence, class and sheer charisma that sold the show night after night. On Twisted, Rick is still in the rare form that makes him a true original; He sings and croons and plays the harmonica like a seasoned and tasteful pro. He makes you actually want more harp because he is a genius at when to lay out and when to pour it on. I highly recommend this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!!!, September 30, 2009
This review is from: Twisted (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of Little Charlie & the Nightcats for a long time now and have seen them live a number of times. When I heard that Little Charlie Baty had chosen to no longer tour, I was very disappointed that I would no longer get to hear or see Little Charlie & the Nightcats perform anymore. A couple of months later I was thrilled to hear that Rick Estrin, harmonica player, lead singer and founding member with Charlie Baty of the band had decided to continue touring under the name Rick Estrin and the Nightcats. I saw them live a couple of days ago and they are just as good as they have ever been. J. Hansen on drums and Lorenzo Farrell on bass are still doing a great job and Kid Andersen is a worthy successor to the guitar spot formerly held by Little Charlie. The songs are as good or better as always. If you haven't bought this CD, do it now and if you have an opportunity to see them live, go see them, you won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rick Tears it Up!, August 10, 2010

This review is from: Twisted (Audio CD)
This is Rick Estrin's first Alligator release with his own Nightcats, following the retirement of Little Charlie Baty from touring in 2008. It is a terrific performance - full of sharp harmonica playing and great singing on a batch of excellent new songs. Rick's in top form here, especially on "P.A. Slim is Back" and the knock-out, Little Walter-inspired instrumental "Take it Slow." Kid Anderson on guitar is no slouch, and following in the footsteps of Little Charlie ain't easy. Make no mistake about it: Rick Estrin is one of the premier blues musicians of this generation. A sensational showman, award-winning songwriter, and harmonica virtuoso, Estrin has put his indelible stamp on "Twisted" for all his fans to enjoy. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rick at his best, September 21, 2009

I believe this is Rick's first outing as a Nightcat sans Charlie Baty. I miss Little Charlie, consummate guitarist that he is, but Kid Andersen is a fabulous addition to this band. As usual, Rick will slay you with his harp and lyrics . . . . both razor-sharp. All the cuts are great . . . . no disappointments here.

you should really read the history of this band on alligator.com once you do, you will really appreciate this album. Rick and the nightcats put out a very solid album. I think the blues has replaced rock 'n' roll music--Rick is no exception. "Back from the dead" is the anthem of the album, where "Earthquake" is like a flashback to the Ventures. Fun album!!! Easily worth a $[...] download.

Caught them at Batemenas Bay Blues Festival (Aus). Great feel for a song, houmour, wit and style. Back from the dead and Inlaws are my faves. Bought a few CD's as gifts.

I picked up this CD at a show last week in Southern California at the Arcadia Blues Club. I've listened to the CD over and over. There is only one song I could go without. This is a great record because it has everything from swing, to real blues and rockabilly. Rick Estrin is one smokin hot harp player with real blues soul. You want something to share with friends this a a great one!
