Twisted Summer Review,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Turtleback School & Library Binding Edition) (School & Library Binding)
The book Twisted Summer by Willow Davis Roberts is about how a girl named Cici and how she spends her summer at Crystal Lake. Cici is fourteen and going on fifteen years old and is hoping to have a special summer at the lake, joining the big kids. Cici and her family have spent every summer at the lake, for as far back as she could remember, except for last summer. When they arrive at the lake, they find out that there was a murder at the lake, of a young girl, and Jack a boy 2 years older than Cici, his brother, Brody, had been convicted, and sent to jail. Cici cannot belive that Brody would do such a thing, and neither could jack, his mother, or some other residents at the lake. So Cici tries to discover what really happened. Their summer is then complicated with the illness and death on Cicis grandma Molly. The cottage they all stay in belonges to the Judge, Mollys second husbend. Molly's illness then helps Cici to make unexpected discoveries about the Judge, things that may or may not have information about the murder. It then becomes clear to her that she will be in mortal danger if she continues her investigation. Befor it is all solved, she finds she has matured and that she is now one of the big kids. I difinitely would recommend this book to people of all ages to read. It's an easy to read book, which has suspense, mystery and friendly characters. It also has a lot of drama and you will want to finish it quickly, to see what happenes at the end.

This book is excellent and worth the money.
I read this book from the library, and I've read it 2 times so far. It's so good, that at the end, both times, I had goosbumps all over, and I felt a great sense of relief.

Good mystery, with a great story,
By Valerie Lockhart (Shreveport, Louisiana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Hardcover)
This book was really fun to read. Throughout the book, Cici is trying to find out who killed a girl at the lake the previous summer. There are several suspects, and each of them, at one point or another, says something, or makes a comment, that would make one believe that that particular person was the murderer. Towards the end though, Cici zeroes in on one particular person, and with the help of Jack (a boy she likes), they finally find out who the murderer is. It's a surprise ending. This book was fun to read, and I really enjoyed it.

Awesome, intrigueing, and something to keep me wanting more!,

This book was excellent. Cecilia, or Cici, as they call her in the book, was quite a detective and I was amazed at the things she found out on her own! I also couln't believe the cruelty they put on Jack. I mean for one thing he didn't even murder the person, and plus, neither did Brody. So they took it way out of proportion. Also, I cannot believe Ilona didn't even have the decency to go see Brody. I mean they made big plans. That must have devastated Brody, that his girlfriend thought he was guilty. Well she was wrong. Well, I was intrigued when someone shot at Cici. I mean that is terrible. It was her own Grandfather, too. Well I think that Willo Davis Roberts certainly should get huge recognition for her works. That is all I have to say.

Boring Summer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Hardcover)
The book is not as bad as some I've read, but the plot is pretty predictable and the ending leaves a lot to be desired. If you want a good mystery I would read a book by Caroline B. Cooney, such as Wanted! or Losing Christina.

The Twisted Summer,
By
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Hardcover)
THE TWISTED SUMMERHaving just read the book Twisted Summer by Willo Davis Roberts I can say that it is a fairly good and enjoyable book. When Laura asked me if I wanted to read it. I shrugged off and said no. After trying different books like The Cat Who Knew Shakespeare and several others; having no choice I was left to this one. I started reading it and couldn't stop; I read it, and finished it in three days. That is why I regret not having read it before. One lesson that I learned after I read this book is to never judge a book by its cover. I saw the dull and boring cover so that told me it was going to be boring, but I learned after reading it wasn't. It is a story about a 14-year-old girl who hopes for a romantic summer at the beach but instead finds herself trying to solve the case of a murder which occurred the year before. This book grabbed my attention very much. Soon after starting it I found myself doing in my head, a chart like the one that Cici developed to solve the case. This is a book full of suspense, which grabs the readers attention since they begin it. I think that many people would enjoy this book as much as I worshiped it. Each character in the book had a unique personality that made it seem like it was real. In this book I particularly liked to characters. Lina was the mom of Jack and Brody, the kid who was accused as a murder the year before and went to 25 years of jail. To me she represented a perfect mother. She was nice and enjoyable to everyone even though she had gone through a lot of pain. She was loyal to her son and knew that he wasn't guilty. Lina was able to recognize people for who they were. Her love for people did not end, and she continued to live even though her heart was torn. Cici and her loved each other and she still respected the judge after not helping her solve the case. I also liked the judge, even though he had to do with blackmailing he had a point. He was covering for Molly because he knew how much it would hurt her if she had to go through what happened. Molly trusted him not to tell anyone that accidentally she had killed someone with the car. He was also guilty sometimes like for shooting above Cici's head to scare her so she would back off. The judge could have also changed things when he figured it wasn't Brody; but he didn't and left him too be guilty. The judge was a character who had a mischief personality; you really didn't know what he was up to. Lastly, I was very fond of Molly but sadly after her death I couldn't get to meet her very well. This book had millions of characters that made the story so interesting but these are my favorite. The fact that this is such a great book makes me only have a few complaints. I would have preferred Molly to be alive not to die. Even though because Molly died made each of the characters personality change. I know that she needed to die, but it was sad and depressing after she died. I only got to meet her a bit but by Cici's description I knew that she was an extraordinary woman. I also think that it would have been better if at the end of the book more information about what happened to the judge could have been revealed. It could have ended with everyone forgiving the judge for example. After they knew that the person who really was guilty was Trafton they could have said what happened to him. For my opinion the ending of the book wasn't as I expected it to be. I agree that the author must let the reader imagine things, but for me on mysteries this doesn't work. In mysteries more of an answer and a resolution must take place at the end. Apart from that the book was really enthusiastic and fun. In my opinion many people would enjoy this book. It suits many ages but probably people that are bigger than 11 years old. This is because this story is told from a fourteen-year-old girl. This makes us view it in her point. For someone to understand her it is necessary that they are not very young and mature. I also think that if people greater than fourteen read it, they will get bored. As Cici mentions in her book that the big kids always thought of them of babies. If someone who is too big reads it probably their reaction will be that it is very boring and lame. I would classify his book into mysteries. It has a lot of suspense and it is one of those books that grabs your attention very quickly. This book is also realistic in every single way. All of the resolution, climax, and characters seemed real. People who enjoy realistic mysteries, this is the perfect book for you. The major lesson in this book to me is: never give up. Cici was persistent on her love for Jack and tried to help him. Unlike Jack, Cici continued on the mystery and did not stop even if it included her life. She was determined to make Jack's family joyful again. She knew how much it meant for them to let Brody free and proved it to the world. Many tragic things where also happening. Mollys death was something that had a very big impact on her. When someone "tried" to kill her, it didn't matter she knew she couldn't turn back. I also think that another lesson I learned was trust. Cici had to include everyone and had to learn who to trust. Even though it was difficult she couldn't give up. This book is a fantasting book form where I learned a lot from it. Most people would enjoy this book so I recommend you all to read it.

Fast efficient narrative....,
By Spencer S Tay (Georgetown) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Hardcover)
Cici and family returns to a lake and finds herself turning into a semi-sleuth. The narrative runs smoothly and makes for fast efficient reading. Once started, it is quite difficult to stop, thanks to the interest-enough storyline. The writing style is crisp and clear. However, this book is no where among the great books for teenagers. From a moral perspective, the relationships among the teenagers are far from ideal and certainly not exemplary. Furthermore, there is hardly much in this book that caters for character building.

Twisted Summer by: Willo Davis Roberts 6th GradeDo you like murder stories? Or do you prefer mysteries? Well this new book Twisted Summer, is a mix of both murder and mystery. Don't worry though, it isn't scary for those of you who aren't into scary stories. I know what you're thinking right now what is the book about? And what kind of murder? If I read on will it give the book away? No, I hate when people give away a good story. When fourteen-year-old Cici comes back to Crystal lake after two years everything seems fine at first. Then the new maid tells Cici of a murder that a boy named Brian committed. Cici can't believe that Brian would murder anybody, so she and Brian's brother Jack get together and make a list. This list contains suspects, their opportunity, and why they would desire to murder a mischievous girl in her teens. When they find the list is gone, things start to seem more serious. Cici's grandmother died, the list is gone, and things were definently twisted. This book brings you to a stomach turning ending of truth. Since Cici and Jack had made the list everybody seemed to be a suspect. When Cici snuck into the judges office she found something very peculiar. In the Judge's ( the owner of the house) recordings of cash, she finds that each month for about one and a half years, the judge has been paying one thousand dollars cash to somebody for something. Then she hears the screen door open and hurries out of the office. The next day she remembers in horror that she left the list in the judge's office and hurries to get it only to find it was gone. Did the judge find it? Or was it the maid? This was my favorite scene in the book because it left me on a cliff hanger, and I like cliff hangers. I'm afraid I can't give away anymore because it would give the book away. Believe me the ending is a real surprise.

Awesome!,
This review is from: Twisted Summer (Mass Market Paperback)
Cici who is now 14 hopes to be accepted into the older group of kids on the island. However when she arrives on the island she discovers that Zoe had been murdered the summer before in a cottage. She also learns that the person who is in prison for murdering Zoe is her family cooks son which also happens to be the guy she has a crush ons brother. Cici is sure they got the wrong guy and when she starts finding clues she wished she never had. This mystery might just be linked to her family more than she ever thought it would. This is a great book. It is a page turner because you want to know what happens next very badly. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a great mystery!
