Book Description

May 13, 2008

Celeste Styles is starting over. After losing her cherished salon in a suspicious fire, she has finally left her adulterous relationship and her drama-filled life in Brooklyn for the peace and tranquility of Atlanta, Georgia. But when Rah-Lo heads down south after deciding to leave his wife Asia, Celeste is floored and isn't quite sure if she wants to rekindle their affair. Meanwhile, Asia is hell bent on revenge. Vowing not to let Celeste get away with her man that easily, she, too, heads to Atlanta. But just on her heels is Ishmael Wright, ready to save the day and to warn his best friend Rah-Lo about his vengeful wife. Though Ishmael also has something else up his sleeve.

Secret betrayals are exposed, bitter rivalries explode, love is lost and found. Life will never be the same on the streets of "Hotlanta" in Tracy Brown's epic new urban drama.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Brown (Criminal Minded) packs her latest New York street fable with titillation, betrayals, violence, sex, histrionics and an amazingly improbable redemption through true love. An extremely fed up Celeste Styles sets her beloved salon, Dime Piece, on fire in an attempt to head South and start her life anew, away from her married boyfriend Rah-lo, a dealer. Meanwhile, Ishmael, Rah-lo's business partner, best friend and confidante, tries to forget his feelings for Celeste with a relationship with Nina—and a rekindled affair with Robin. Brown keeps the drama flowing and the pages turning as the love triangle converges explosively in Atlanta. (May)

3.0 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) To Begin Anew..., May 14, 2008
This review is from: Twisted (Paperback)
Now a college grad with a promising career, a closer relationship with the two strong forces in her life, Celeste Styles is finally comfortable in her own skin. The fit is near perfect despite the ache she still harbors for her forbidden love, Rah-lo. Celeste made a true gangsta move and ran from the lifestyle of being Rah-lo's mistress and the drama it entailed with his ghetto-fabulous wife, Asia.

Although disheartened with Celeste's disappearing act, Raheem Rah-lo Henderson charged it to the game and kept it moving. He is still miserably married to Asia and is attempting to salvage this farce of a union for his girls' sake. He and lifelong friend Ishmael Wright continue their get money hustle although a sense of distrust has caused an invisible breach in their relationship. Ishmael is reluctantly cohabitating with Nina, but still has jump-offs because of his hesitancy to commit. Rah-lo and Ishmael are both living challenging lives with their jealous and devious ladies and both are still secretly fantasizing about Celeste being their soul mate.

Twisted brings us up to speed on the drama surrounding Rah-lo, Celeste, and Ishmael, after the burning of Celeste's Dime Piece salon. Distance does seem to make the heart grow fonder, but jealousy, lies, deceit, lust, backbiting, obsessing, and a touch of insanity are just a few of the emotions running rampant in this joint! Ms. Brown did bring closure to this tale of forbidden lovers. Good job Ms. Brown!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable book., August 31, 2008
This review is from: Twisted (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading this book. I even stayed up late to finish it because I just had to see how it was all going to turn out. There were many times as I was reading, I would find myself shouting at the pages because I was right there with these folks-caught up in the drama. I have not the other books by Tracy Brown, but I didn't feel behind in the story. I am however going to be going back to catch up with the books that I missed. I really enjoyed this book. Now, I'll have to see what happens next.
