Editorial Reviews

The self produced album of 12 songs features two new unreleased songs called 2nd Street , and Better Off Without You , as well as the final recordings of the original lineup with former guitarist Tommy Skeoch from 2005. The aptly titled album is not only called TWISTED WIRES & the acoustic sessions... for the way Tesla has always seemed to seamlessly blend acoustic and electric guitar sounds in their music, but is also descriptive of the bands continuous and tumultuous ride over the past 25 years, overcoming the ups and downs of rock and roll. From the band that sparked the unplugged craze of the 90s with 5 Man Acoustic Jam , and the radical electric guitar riffs of Modern Day Cowboy featured on the latest Guitar Hero game, now comes TWISTED WIRES & the acoustic sessions... a creative mix of past and present, as well as a classic rendition of Climax Blues Bands I Love You which so happens to be the first song TESLA recorded together after reuniting from a painful 5 year break up. Take a spin of the new disc by TESLA and enjoy the celebration of 25 years with America s gritty blue collar band of survivors who still rock today, and will for another 25 years!

This is a fantastic CD release by the hard rock outfit Tesla titled 'Twisted Wires' & the acoustic sessions.... This CD (12 tracks) features two brilliant brand new tracks, namely "Second Street" & "Better Off Without You" as well as 'the older' 10 songs being a combination of the last recorded (acoustic tracks) with the former guitarist Tommy Skeoch in 2005 & acoustic remakes/versions from their catalogue. Stand-outs/gems/solid tracks include "Second Street" (wonderful melody, acoustic guitars & vocals), "Better Off Without You" (beautuful guitar chords, melody & vocals) & "A Lot To Lose" (incredible melody, harmonies/vocals & guitars). Great tracks include "Into The Now", "Hang Tough", "Edison's Medicine", "What You Give" (a slow track with great guitar finger pick-ups & vocals), "Shine Away" (great guitar work & interesting harmonies), "I Love You", "Changes" (great piano & guitar chords combination), "Caught In A Dream" & "Song And Emotion". On overall, Tesla (being known for their brilliant combination of acoustic & electric guitar sounds) will impress you in this CD 'Twisted Wires', a highly recommended CD listening. I was pleasantly surprised at the enjoyment I felt listening to this CD (acoustic tracks). A well deserved 5 star performance!

So you're on a trip driving with your wife and Stinkfist from Tool is on the radio. She says...."isn't there something better we can listen to?" So she starts fumbling with the radio and the next thing you know it lands on the country station. Nooooooo! I can't take 2 1/2 hours of Blake Shelton. So look, pop in this Tesla CD. You get to hum along with some old favorites, and the acoustic versions are not too harsh on your woman's ears. Especially like the acoustic versions of Edison's Medicine and Changes. 4.5 stars. I thought it started to drag a bit towards the end or else it would be a 5.

Buy it...just buy it. Tesla fan or not. This is better than "Signs", just no mega-hit. If you are a die hard Tesla fan from the 80s and 90s, versions of "Hang Tough" , "Into the Now" and "Shine Away" will send shivers up your spine...that good. Jeff Keith's vocals are as awesome as ever. Fan of the band or not you will be impressed. Would like to see some of the supposed big boys of metal produce something like this. They cant do it. Tesla ROCKS.

Tesla at it's finest. Tesla started the whole hairband wanta-go-acoustic thing, even though in my opinion Tesla was never a hairband. If you like for what Tesla stands for then you will love this CD. My fav's are 'Caught up in a Dream', 'Shine Away', '2nd Street', and 'Chances'. Now that does not mean that the other songs are crap by no means. Tesla has always provided music that is far superior then most of rock. This is by far the "buy of 2011".

When one hears 'Tesla' and 'acoustic' one immediately thinks FIVE MAN ACOUSTICAL JAM. Is this album another JAM? No, and it isn't trying to be. Plenty of differences: JAM was recorded in a single live performance. WIRES is studio tracks from several sessions (original band member Tommy Skeoch plays on "Into the Now", "Hang Tough", "Edison's Medicine", "Shine Away", and "I Love You", recorded in 2005; new guitarist Dave Rude plays on the other seven tracks, recorded in 2010/2011) -- and not all of the tracks are acoustic, anyway. On JAM the band was twenty years younger and a bit more full of piss and vinegar; on WIRES a certain degree of, perhaps, mellowing or maturity is accompanied by a high degree of musicianship (that 20 years again).

The songs on WIRES are an eclectic lot; Tesla didn't take the predictable/commercially safe route of just recording unplugged versions of their biggest hits. There are live staples "Changes", "Hang Tough", "What You Give", and "Song and Emotion", but a number of lesser-played/lesser-known songs too, like "Caught In A Dream". The Climax Blues Band cover "I Love You" is pleasant but not the album's strongest song; but new songs "2nd Street" and "Better Off Without You" are prime Tesla and good listens. Tesla fans will dig TWISTED WIRES.

Tesla has been good lately with delivering interesting material to fans in-between studio albums. While we were waiting for Forever More we got the Real to Reel covers albums, and while we're waiting for the next full-length we've got Twisted Wires, an acoustic/odds-and-ends collection that brings to mind the old Five Man Acoustical Jam days.

For the most part, Twisted Wires is a collection of acoustic reworkings of classic Tesla songs. Some of the songs turn out like you'd expect ("Caught Up in a Dream" and "Song & Emotion" for example) and others (like "Edison's Medicine" and "Hang Tough") sound almost like totally new songs. Speaking of which, there are a couple of new tracks as well. "2nd Street" and "Better Off Without You" are both really good new songs, and there's a new cover song, this time the Climax Blues Band's "I Love You." The album is really solid throughout, and is a lot of fun overall.

It's not a must-have album, but serious Tesla fans are definitely going to want to check out Twisted Wires. It's another great example of how versatile and truly talented this continually underrated band really is.
