5.0 out of 5 stars How To Have a Happy, Well-Adjusted Cat
People without experience with cats often regard them as cold and aloof, but it's not true. Cats are sensitive and loving. They crave affection from you. They dote on routine, security, and comfort. Give them this, plus playtime with you each day, and you will have a cat that will love you. Unfortunately, cats can suffer trauma from past mistreatment, injury, terror at...

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it with 'Cat vs Cat'!
I have a multicat household and one of my kitty has a socialization problem while there is a predator in the house and one that is being continuously picked upon.
I bought two books thinking 'Twisted Whiskers' will help me solve the former while the 'Cat vs. Cat' will help me solve the latter.

5.0 out of 5 stars How To Have a Happy, Well-Adjusted Cat, January 14, 2002
People without experience with cats often regard them as cold and aloof, but it's not true. Cats are sensitive and loving. They crave affection from you. They dote on routine, security, and comfort. Give them this, plus playtime with you each day, and you will have a cat that will love you. Unfortunately, cats can suffer trauma from past mistreatment, injury, terror at loud noises, or other unpleasant events. (Our cat hides behind me and peers out while the housekeeper runs the vacuum sweeper.) Cats suffer depression from loss of a family member, a move to a new home, or almost any change in the familiar routine. The author does a masterful job of showing us how to cope with a cat's traumas and develop a happy, purring cat. Our cat awarded five sniffs to this gold mine of information and advice.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Book You'll Ever Need, August 10, 1999
By A Customer
No matter how bad your cat is, the answer to your prayers is in this book. I learned so much about why my cat was being aggressive. The chapter on litter box problems was not only informative but fun to read. My friends have been so impressed with how well behaved my cat acts now. Every cat owner should have this book in their library.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book was not only helpful but well written., October 30, 1998

Not long ago a stray turned up in our backyard and we decided to keep her. This was a wonderful decision for us and for her, unfortunately our other cats didn't agree. What insued where fights day and night, night and day. Twisted Whiskers helped us to better understand why they were all fighting and how we could cope. The insight and advice in this book was wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone who owns a cat, anyone thinking of adopting a cat and most certainly anyone adding another cat to the family (read it before you add, there is a right way to handle the addition and Ms. Johnson spells it out).

5.0 out of 5 stars The most comprehensive feline behavior book I've read, June 4, 2005
How many times have I wished Dr. Dolittle could come visit me and just talk to my 16-year-old curmudgeon and have Rambo pass along what's got him yelling all night.....

"Twisted Whiskers" is the next best thing. Pam Johnson discusses a wide variety of feline behavior problems in cats' terms so we can form better human-feline cohabitation.

Her chapters on "Old Age" and "Depression" were indispensible in dealing with Rambo. In addition, Johnson talks about natural remedies rather than having us end up with a generation of doped-up furbabies. Johnson lists the Bach's Flower remedies and their appropriate applications and doseages for felines.

Excellent read! Highly recommended for new and old-time cat companions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strongly recommended, April 22, 2004

I am a humane educator at an animal shelter. I have read many a book about animal behavior in my line of work. This is by far THE BEST book I have ever read on cat behavior and I often recommend it to adopters and potential adoptors. It is now circulating around the shelter workers to keep them informed on how to counsil cat caregivers.

a holistic approach. She explains why your cat may be doing an undesirable behavior, and what you can do to stop it. She also explains how diet can affect your cat's behavior. Some of the behavior problems addressed include: spraying in the house, defacating/urinating outside the litterbox, displaced aggression, play-biting, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should come attached to your cat, October 28, 2000

As a Pet Sitter, I deal with kitty problems all the time. At Holiday Season, I buy this book for all my new clients. It is the best thing you can do for your cat and for yourself. Everyone appreciates how much they can learn from this little gem of a book; but mostly the cats benefit. They live longer, healthier and happier lives. As far as I am concerned Pam Johnson is the Cat's Meow.......

It turns out that these two books are almost identical. They have same chapters with some updates on the 'twisted whiskers'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as Good as Cat Behavior Answer Book, January 19, 2008

I bought this book at the same time as I bought Arden Moore's "Cat Behavior Answer Book," & although this book is good, it's not as helpful as Moore's book. The "Cat Behavior Answer Book" gave me a more thorough discussion of issues, & more specific solutions than this book. One of my cat's issues is night-time meowing, which wakes me up, & Moore's book helped me solve the problem more than this book did.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS JUST WHAT WE NEEDED, June 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
FOLKS....THIS IS IT. This book is exactly what we needed! Two years ago my husband Larry and I were forced to put down our BELOVED Buffy of 16 years due to numerous health issues and since then we have missed having a cat in our home. As I recently became physically disabled after 45 years of working, we wanted a young cat instead of a kitten because the kittens are always chosen first, leaving the young/older cats without a quiet, clean home. So three weeks ago we adopted Sassy (Siamese - 1 year old) and she is a handful! Imagine our shock when Sassy jumped up on our beautiful furniture and counter tops and our Buffy NEVER did! We needed direction and Pam Johnson-Bennett's book filled the bill. Her philosophies and training methods to break bad habits of an already abused cat have worked wonders. Thank you Pam for a no-nonsense manual to help us bond with Sassy and maybe she too will live another 16 years in our quiet, clean, no children, no other pets home. As homeowners, we would gladly adopt more cats if I could physically get around. But we will see ~ maybe Sassy will have a brother or sister soon. We will be ordering Pam's other books as well.
