Editorial Reviews

Who wouldn't welcome another live LP of this hot bunch in their prime -- especially one recorded (October 2, 1977 and August 31, 1978) at the famous club with the powerful sound system they considered their post-Cleveland home turf? Mind you, as block letters on the sleeve warn, Twistin' is "low-fidelity raw." So, though the band rockets through slashers such as "High Tension Wire" and "Down in Flames" with even more power crunch than on Young Loud & Snotty and roars through "Catholic Boy" and "I Wont Look Back" with the ferocity missing from We Have Come For Your Children (!), you have to listen carefully. Still, you should! Even more than the better-sounding Bomp! CD Night of the Living Dead Boys (also CBGB, 3/79), the Dead Boys' wild fury here completely justifies this muddy document. (Hurrah for Stiv Bators' impromptu Kiss diss in "3rd Generation Nation," too -- see? Punks knew better!) And after hearing this CD, even having seen Dead Boys a few times the following year, anyone would wish they were back at Bleeker and Bowery, when CBs was the center of the world and time stood still for whole nights. ~ Jack Rabid, All Music Guide

4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of noise!!!, May 30, 2005
This review is from: Twistin' on the Devil's Fork: Live at CBGB's (Audio CD)
The Dead boys were a great punk band and played in a time when punk music was just hitting the scene. This CD is a live recording of them on stage at the legendaryu CBGB's and is probably the best collection of songs you will find on CD from the Dead Boys. This CD does not include my personal favorite "Ain't It Fun" and judging by the hard time I'm having finding that song live, I doubt they ever played it. But, this CD does have a great selection of trackes, Including both "Sonic Reducer" and "I don't wanna Be a Catholic Boy". "Sonic Reducer" may be the best punk song ever written(OK, maybe Iggy and the Stooges' "Raw Power") and this CD really has a good version of it.

CD quality is not nearly the best and may be a problem if your not using a higher-end CD/stereo system. Personally, I like this CDs quality, because it sounds very gritty and rauchy, which is how punk should sound. If you are curious on the Dead Boys or you just want to hear what punk sounded like at the beginning, this CD will not disappoint!!!

ENJOY!

3.0 out of 5 stars Only good for one listen, December 22, 2005
This review is from: Twistin' on the Devil's Fork: Live at CBGB's (Audio CD)
My friend has this and told me yesterday that the quality is terrible and he could only listen to it 1 time. The previous guy suggested buying this if you want to hear what the Dead Boys sound like. If you've never heard them, why would you start with a live album? Buy a studio one like Young Loud and Snottier.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dead Boys - 'Twistin' On The Devil's Fork:Live At CBGB'S' (Bacchus) 3 1/2 stars, December 3, 2006
This review is from: Twistin' on the Devil's Fork: Live at CBGB's (Audio CD)
Archived performance by the Dead Boys pulled from two of their earlier shows- Oct.2, 1977 and Aug.31, 1978. Sound quality isn't that great, but I think what I like SO much about 'Twistin'...' is that it sounds just so 'real' and raw.Might need to fiddle around with your stereo controls a bit. Twelve cuts here to fully experience what TRUE proto punk is all about. Tunes I liked best were "All This And More", "Catholic Boy", their cover of the Syndicate Of Sound's late '60's hit "Hey Little Girl", the gritty "Aint Nothing To Do" and "What Love Is". Enjoy.
