Format: Paperback
Much of American popular culture exchanges biblical ethical norms with various self-indulgent pursuits. In "Twisting the Truth Participant's Guide: Learning to Discern in a Culture of Deception," Pastor Andy Stanley provides a six-session DVD-based group study that reveals how truth can get "twisted and distorted" as he demonstrates how this self-deception and pleasure-seeking can produce pain and trouble .

Stanley exposes the truth about:

- Our avoidance of rules and fixed moral truths
- Our unscriptural sexual pursuits
- The effects of embracing hedonism
- The painful effects of sin.

Wrong-headed quests built on self-deceptions are potent and will devastate the lives of those who chase them. Herein Pastor Stanley offers the self-aid to open one's eyes in order to reject falsehoods and walk in truth as God's power brings your soul forgiveness, joy, and wholeness. The group study is aimed at turning your life "completely around."

Andy Stanley is a pastor of North Point Ministries in Georgia (and has planted many other churches) and has written numerous self-help books.

"A six lesson study packed with thought-provoking truth."

Twisting the Truth by Andy Stanley is a must for those looking to expose deception in our present day culture. We are so molded by what is now so acceptable, so tolerated, and sadly even promoted. We do not realize the devastation of buying into the lies of the enemy.

I purchased the participant guide to use with the Group Curriculum DVD in my next Bible Study. As with all of Andy Stanleys' teachings, I was not disappointed.

This study focused on topics not often discussed in depth such as the truth about authority, the correct view of sex, and all woven back to the central theme of deception.

Thought provoking character skits introduce each weeks session prompting the viewer to focus on the various levels of deception and the often overlooked result. These skits reminded me of C. S. Lewis' `Screwtape Letters' because of the view inside the enemy's camp.

The discussion questions are on point and very useful in igniting discussion and conversation. This is my favorite portion of the guide. We cannot deal with a thing until it is first recognized in light of what God tells us then discussed openly to put to rest all the questions a small group has.

I recommend this highly as well as the DVD Group Curriculum.

Andy Stanley continues to provide quality small group studies! Two adult Sunday school classes (at my church) have completed the "Twisting the Truth" small group study. Andy's presentation provids life-applicable material and produces good discussion among class participants. Both classes gave the content of this study a thumbs-up, five star rating.

The study is very worth doing...makes you think! The guide is a little hard to follow. ...when do you answer the questions?? before or after a video session. If you don't answer until after, then you can't really be prepared to meet as a group. I found that confusing.

More About the Author

Communicator, author, and pastor, ANDY STANLEY founded Atlanta-based North Point Ministries in 1995. Today, NPM is comprised of six churches in the Atlanta area and a network of 30 churches around the globe, collectively serving over 60,000 people weekly. A survey of U.S. pastors in Outreach Magazine identified Andy Stanley as one of the top 10 most influential living pastors in America.

The author of 20-plus books, including The New Rules of Love, Sex, and Dating, Ask It, How to Be Rich, Deep & Wide, Enemies of the Heart, When Work & Family Collide, Visioneering, and Next Generation Leader, Andy Stanley holds two degrees, an undergraduate in journalism from Georgia State University and a Masters degree from Dallas Theological Seminary, the impact of which is all too evident in his written work.

In the digital world, his success reaches well beyond local Atlanta-area walls. Two million of Stanley's messages, leadership videos, and podcasts are accessed from North Point's website monthly.

In 2012, Your Move with Andy Stanley premiered on NBC after Saturday Night Live, giving him an even wider audience with which to share his culturally relevant, practical insight for life and leadership. In less than two years, over 36 million episodes have been viewed, underscoring Stanley's impact not only as a communicator but also as a cultural change agent.

But nothing is so personal as his passion for engaging with live audiences, which Stanley has pursued for over a decade, speaking at leadership events around the world. In high demand, he speaks at various events before a yearly audience of both church and organizational leaders of nearly 200,000, including conferences such as Catalyst, Leadercast, Exchange, and the WCA Global Leadership Summit.

"I cannot fill their cups," he often says of the opportunity to impact leaders in business and in ministry, "but I have a responsibility to empty mine."

Andy Stanley and his wife, Sandra, have three grown children and live near Atlanta.
