Pastor Stanley Offers Self-help for Those in Self-deception,
This review is from: Twisting the Truth Participant's Guide: Learning to Discern in a Culture of Deception (Paperback)
Much of American popular culture exchanges biblical ethical norms with various self-indulgent pursuits. In "Twisting the Truth Participant's Guide: Learning to Discern in a Culture of Deception," Pastor Andy Stanley provides a six-session DVD-based group study that reveals how truth can get "twisted and distorted" as he demonstrates how this self-deception and pleasure-seeking can produce pain and trouble .
Stanley exposes the truth about: - Our avoidance of rules and fixed moral truths - Our unscriptural sexual pursuits - The effects of embracing hedonism - The painful effects of sin. Wrong-headed quests built on self-deceptions are potent and will devastate the lives of those who chase them. Herein Pastor Stanley offers the self-aid to open one's eyes in order to reject falsehoods and walk in truth as God's power brings your soul forgiveness, joy, and wholeness. The group study is aimed at turning your life "completely around." Andy Stanley is a pastor of North Point Ministries in Georgia (and has planted many other churches) and has written numerous self-help books. "A six lesson study packed with thought-provoking truth."
Twisting the Truth by Andy Stanley is a must for those looking to expose deception in our present day culture. We are so molded by what is now so acceptable, so tolerated, and sadly even promoted. We do not realize the devastation of buying into the lies of the enemy. I purchased the participant guide to use with the Group Curriculum DVD in my next Bible Study. As with all of Andy Stanleys' teachings, I was not disappointed. This study focused on topics not often discussed in depth such as the truth about authority, the correct view of sex, and all woven back to the central theme of deception. Thought provoking character skits introduce each weeks session prompting the viewer to focus on the various levels of deception and the often overlooked result. These skits reminded me of C. S. Lewis' `Screwtape Letters' because of the view inside the enemy's camp. The discussion questions are on point and very useful in igniting discussion and conversation. This is my favorite portion of the guide. We cannot deal with a thing until it is first recognized in light of what God tells us then discussed openly to put to rest all the questions a small group has. I recommend this highly as well as the DVD Group Curriculum. Reviewed by: Keiki Hendrix Reviewed for: The Vessel Project

Andy Stanley continues to provide quality small group studies! Two adult Sunday school classes (at my church) have completed the "Twisting the Truth" small group study. Andy's presentation provids life-applicable material and produces good discussion among class participants. Both classes gave the content of this study a thumbs-up, five star rating.

I have not been able to view this in it's entirety yet, but what I have seen is revealing about the way our culture distorts truth. Very sobering video.
