Editorial Reviews

Review

"Douglas has collected 158 pages of proof that some of the millions of typists on Twitter are laugh-out-loud funny. A few are masters of compression, able to illuminate our common humanity in a couple of lines of text. String enough of them together in the right order, as Douglas has done, and you've got a crowdsourced replacement for David Foster Wallace, without the too-long-didn't-read factor." (LA Weekly )

"No matter your opinion of Twitter, you can enjoy some laughs in these 140-character (or fewer) communiques from hundreds of folks, compiled by techno-smartie Douglas." (Sacramento Bee )

Product Description

Sometimes, what happens on Twitter shouldn't stay on Twitter.

Twitter Wit is the first ever compilation of Twitter aphorisms and witticisms, celebrating a medium that has enabled millions of users to broadcast their lives and quips within Twitter's 140-character limit, thus reinventing wordplay in the tradition of Dorothy Parker and Oscar Wilde. This collection includes hundreds of the most memorable and hilarious tweets to date, demonstrating that inside every moment is a joke waiting to be written.

Everybody's twittering—from millions of regular folks to world-famous celebrities and writers like Ashton Kutcher, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Sarah Silverman, Penn Jillette, Neil Gaiman, Paula Poundstone, Susan Orlean, Russell Brand, Margaret Cho, Stephen Fry, Rainn Wilson, and Diablo Cody—they're all here, and all of them sharp as stilettos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Physically Satisfying, August 27, 2009
I gave this book five stars even though it is not literally the most perfect book ever made. (That would be a little book I like to call Auto Repair For Dummies.) Here is a very even-handed review of the book:

PROS:
* Rolls up easily into a tube to serve as a make-shift telescope with startlingly clear 1:1 magnification
* Will work in a pinch to kill insects smaller than the book, if swung with gusto and palpated terror
* Contains tweets from many of my friends
* Found in the top drawer of every hotel room in which Nick Douglas has ever stayed
* Includes handy pull-out section for you to write in your own tweets
* Puzzles: Some tweets contain secret, anagrammed messages! (Page 82 has a DOOZY)

CONS:
* Also contains tweets from several of my mortal enemies (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE)
* Covers are very floppy, almost like they're made out of paper
* Smells delightfully of lilac
* Will bring a smile to the grumpiest of literate faces
* Prompts everyone who was in the book to write a silly review of it
* No answer key or teacher's edition

In the end, your annoying insect infestation won't stand a chance against this tiny powerhouse. I WILL IGNORE ALL REBUTTALS OF THIS REVIEW FROM INSECTS AND INSECTOIDS.

EDIT #1 8/28/2009:
The book is looking at me.

EDIT #2 8/29/2009:
Grammer, punctuation, and cockney rhyming slang corrections.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Triumph of the Human Spirit Pretty Much, August 26, 2009
There are literally millions of books, and this one is no exception.

Flip it open for a quick lol. Start at the beginning to experience the story in its intended sequence. Or maybe read several pages and then skip to the end to see if you solved the mystery correctly. Twitter Wit lets you decide, as Douglas guides us on a dark journey into the minds of some of Twitter's most underemployed layabouts. Along the way, he examines the human condition and whatever.

This is totally the Dances With Wolves of Twitter books.

5.0 out of 5 stars English Majors Hate This
The English snobs in my company hated this book when I showed it to them so much that I knew I was on to something.

It's funny I think.

Quite.

It made me laugh, that kind of "from the inside like you haven't laughed in a long time laugh". How nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's not "that kind" of bathroom reading.
Basically, I'm in the book, but my boobs aren't and that's all I really bring to the table anyway. There's some funny stuff in it though.
