Review

"In search of romance, Rose finds out more about herself and the spirits that surround her, including the truth about her past lives. Twixt is an intriguing modern fantasy, well worth considering." -The Midwest Book Review

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I couldn't put it down. I'm pretty picky when it comes to romance. I like to see well developed characters and a story line that isn't a cookie cutter copy of other romances, and this book has it all. It has a lyrical quality that really creates a world you can see and feel. The lead character, Rose, is delightfully flawed, real and down to earth. She struggles with the same issues we all do in life, sometimes wondering if she's completely making a mess of things. But what I really love is that you get to see her grow and make some hard decisions. This book is full of fun and interesting characters, has a charm that is truly compelling, and makes you believe in magic. If you're a fan of modern fairytales, like the show "Once Upon A Time", then you will be delighted by this book. If you've never tried a modern fairytale, then I urge you to make this your first. You won't be disappointed!

First of all... I want to be one of the good people!
Now, you may think you know what that means... but you're wrong. Unless of course you've read TWIXT!

I'm a dreamer. I believe in dreams and the messages they bring... and Diane has opened a whole new world for us dreamers. A world that is TWIXT, where good people dwell!

The problem is... we must live in the real world with it's all too real issues. Abuse, poverty, divorce, treachery and evil to name a few. How we deal with what's thrown our way could in fact, dictate the future. Unless you're a dreamer.

Rose is blessed. It may not seem like it because she feels lost and a world of woe has been dumped on her. But "dreams are the songs our souls sing to find their way home" and it's time for her to believe.

I LOVED this book! Diane is an artist with words, and she painted images of life that touched me deeply. I wanted to shout "get your magic on girl" and watch Rose bloom! It was wonderful...

TWIXT is a marvelous combination of real life & magic. A perfect recipe.
Thank you Diane!

Wow, what an exquisite fantasy to come across amongst all the teen angst and sparkling vampires around today!

Diane J. Reed has created a perfect story for her first novel. It's hard to truly categorize this epic love story. It's certainly a beautiful romance, an exciting fantasy, and could even be considered an adventurous western. I love the combination of genres, it's a the perfect recipe for drawing in the reader. From our travel back in time to discover the fascinating history of the O'Dannan curse, to the modern day literal "fairytale" with a western twist, I can't imagine any reader putting this book down until they know exactly how the story is going to end.

For anyone with children, Reed has really captured the beautiful relationship between a mother and a daughter. As the reader, you root with Ailish and Corvine, hoping they will get out of an awful situation together, you cry with Rose and Crystal, whose relationship was torn from them, and you rejoice at the even the small victories Rose regains with her daughter. Twixt captures about a million different layers of humanity within the relationships it portrays. It is such a wonderful novel to have the pleasure to read and I cannot wait to see what else this lovely author comes up with next!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but heard good things about it, so I tried it. And I am so glad that I did! While I normally don't think of myself as enjoying fantasy/magic type stories, this book is so much more than that. It really is a modern day fairy tale, but one that shows a real woman with real problems. One of the strongest points of this book is the characters. Reed has a unique gift for character development, and I was instantly drawn to Rose, her daughter Crystal, and the raven. Crystal's story is especially wonderful, and I think you can take a lot from her story if you choose to do so. Another strength of this book is the setting and descriptions are wonderfully done. This book had me looking forward to my reading time each day because I wanted to see what would happen next. I won't post any spoilers, but the story is full of surprises. I would highly recommend this book, and I'm interested to see what Reed has planned next.

Rose's life is a mess. Thirty, widowed, and with a traumatized child, she's run back home to Ophir Creek, Idaho to try and heal--both herself and her daughter--from her abusive husband's chaotic influence on her life. But bad pennies have a way of turning up, and O'Dannan women have a way of stumbling across them, lifetime after lifetime.

Normally, when I read books, I look for realism. Never far from my mind is the question of, "Would I do that in this situation? Or would I just pack up and get out of Dodge?" But between Diane Reed's lyrical, rich writing and Rose's deeply sympathetic story, my disbelief was so fully suspended that I half-expected to step outside my door onto green Irish shores. Rose's world is a world where the spiritual, the fae, the world of belief, is right there alongside the world that most of us perceive as "reality." This story is her spirit walk, and like all spirit walks, it changes all who are on the path.

Aiding Rose in her quest are a cast of quirky, weirdly wonderful characters that fit perfectly into the Skid Row collective of this dinky little gold-rush town, yet have unique appeal because of their redemptive potential. Rose's best friend is both the somewhat-clueless instigator into trouble, and at the same time, the wise mentor with an unerring sense of direction to bring Rose right back out of trouble. Chance Murphy, the tetched-in-the-head forest ranger and Rose's "soul guardian" has a story of his own that will move anyone with a pulse. Rose's meddling sister Laurel, Ray the town paranoid, and the host of other supporting characters are full of depth and dimension.
