About Twizzlers Candy

Twizzlers Candy was born in 1845 with the establishment of the Young & Smylie candy company. The Hershey Company acquired Twizzlers Candy in 1977, and later introduced Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel, Twizzlers Nibs, and other much-loved candy products. Today, Twizzlers is the Twist You Can’t Resist, whether you’re enjoying a classic twist, the rip-roaring fun of a Twizzlers Pull ‘N’ Peel, or the tangy taste of Sweet & Sour Filled Twists. You can even use Twizzlers Candy for crafts and baking, or bite the ends off to make a straw.

The History of TWIZZLERS

In 1845, Young & Smylie confectionery firm was established. The company later became Y&S Candies, Inc. which eventually came up with the famous twist on licorice: TWIZZLERS.

Hershey Foods Corporation acquired Y&S Candies Inc. in 1977, opening doors for new flavors and new ways to enjoy TWIZZLERS candies.

TWIZZLERS PULL N PEEL was introduced in 1994, letting America pull and share their favorite candy.

In 1998, TWIZZLERS Candy made the Guinness World Record: Y&S Candy Plant in Lancaster, Pennsylvania made the longest licorice ever made at 1,200 feet and 100 pounds.

TWIZZLERS Twerpz and TWIZZLERS Strawz are introduced in 2004, followed shortly thereafter by TWIZZLERS Rainbow Twist in 2006 and TWIZZLERS Sweet & Sour Filled Twists in 2009.

Today, HERSHEY'S continues to think up new ways to give you fun, flavorful varieties of TWIZZLERS candies.

Sugar-free Twizzlers taste more like their full sugar counterparts than any other SF treat that I've tried. Like all artificially sweetened candy, you need to be aware of the type of sweetener used, and ensure that you don't overeat the product, as the sweetener may not agree with you. The serving size is listed for a reason!

My brother-in-law controls his diabetes without any meds so he has to be very careful about what he eats. He loved Twizzlers prior to his diagnosis and had to give them up. I found the sugar free version at Amazon and ordered a box for his birthday. He loved them so I ordered more for a Christmas gift.

When I first saw this product I was so excited that there was a sugar free option to this tasty candy. I have had sugar free products containing Sugar Alcohol in the past, so I did not expect this product to effect me the way that it did. The taste is great but the side effects are terrible. About two hours after eating the recommended serving size I began having severe stomach cramps, as if I had taken a laxative. Not too long after the cramps began I had to literally run to the restroom. I thought that one trip to the restroom would have sufficed and proceeded to go to the gym...BIG MISTAKE!!! Let's just say I had several trips to the restroom following my (what I thought was) a harmless snack. This product is really not worth trying to satisfy your sweet tooth. You are better off eating a peice of fruit!!

If you are on a low carb diet, or just need to watch your calorie and sugar intake, and you are a Twizzler addict like me, then you will love the sugar-free version! I have tried the sugar-free red Vine candy, thought it was awful. saw these SF Twizzlers in Wal-Mart and decided to give them a try. I was very impressed. They taste a lot like the real Twizzlers, and the funny thing is, I usually get headaches if I eat too many real Twizzlers, but these SF ones did not have that affect on me. I notice a lot of reviwers say the taste is good, but the sugar alcohols made them have some bad gastrointestinal issues. There is a warning on the package about this! And I have been eating Atkins bars and other low-carb goodies for years, and the intestinal problems ended for me a long time ago. I can eat about 12 pieces of these at once and be fine. I just know my limit.

I was happy to find these in my local weis supermarket as I had never seen a sugar free option for the twizzlers and they are my favorite snack. I am very strict about eating the indicated serving size. I loved the taste, noticed no difference between these and the regular strawberry twizzlers made with sugar. One hour later I regretted eating these as I got horrible rumblings in my intestines and spent a few hours going to the bathroom with very bad diarrhea. This was like taking pure laxatives. Do not get this as it is not good for your health. You're better off getting the ones with sugar and just eating half the serving size of you want twizzlers.

As a diabetic, these sounded like a very good idea...they were not. I ate most of a bag of these (I know, I know...) before leaving work yesterday. The rest of my evening included:

1. Painful gas cramps, the likes of which I have NEVER experienced in my life.
2. The 'mild laxative effect' promised on the package label, except it was not 'mild'. At all.
3. Flatulance explosive enough to frighten my normally laid-back cat out of the room.
4. Abdominal bloating worse than I have ever experienced. I fully expected to look down at my stomach and see the monster from the Alien movies tearing its way out - and would have almost welcomed that, just to relieve the pressure.

To make it worse, things would settle down for a while between 'episodes' and I thought I was off the hook and then whoops, here we go again. To add insult to injury, I really didn't think these even tasted as good as the 'real' Twizzlers - and they left me with a lingering unpleasant taste in my mouth.
