Terrifying! Not for the 7 and under crowd!,
This review is from: Two Bits & Pepper [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 7 year old daughter and I rented & watched this movie last night. We should have shut it off. For some reason, we thought it would get better, but it never did. At first, it looked like it would be an entertaining tale about 2 girls being kidnapped by a couple of buffoons. However, there was nothing entertaining about this. It was just, plain scary for my little girl. The scenes where the 2 goofy kidnappers stalked the girls were much too suspenseful and realistically scary. The pony's recurring nightmare of his mother being killed was also very frightening and disturbing.
I wouldn't really recommend this movie to anyone. It wasn't well done at all and it wasn't one bit entertaining. Furthermore, it petrified my little girl. I wish I could give it zero stars. I have nothing good to say about this movie.

Entertaining... if you like violent kids' movies,
This review is from: Two Bits & Pepper [VHS] (VHS Tape)
When their humans are kidnapped, two talking equines risk everything to find and rescue them. Two-Bits (voiced by Matthew Bartilson) is a pony haunted by the recurring dream of his mother's death, and Pepper (voiced by Lance LeGault) is an older horse who literally dodges a bullet. (Word of warning: Although Two-Bits & Pepper seems to be meant for young children it's an incredibly violent, disturbing movie.)

Cheesy, But Good Movie,
By
This review is from: Two Bits and Pepper (DVD)
I honestly don't see why people are saying this movie is so horrible. It is very clearly rated PG, so why would they think it was intended for little kids? This movie is not for really young kids. The kidnappers can be scary, though not much worse than the ones in Home Alone. The final scenes when the horses go to rescue the girls can also be scary, though again no more so than many other PG movies putting animals in dangerous situations, like Far From Home, Dinosaur, or even the Bear (which is also PG, yet I doubt any parent would let a sub-10 year old watch it)!
As for the movie itself, it is an interesting tale of two girls and their two horses. Two-Bits is a little pony, haunted by nightmares of his mother being killed by a drunk driver who when he was still young. As a result, he can be a little insecure, so he frequently sneaks out of the barn so sleep outside his young owner, Tyler's, window. Pepper is an older gray horse, owned by Tyler's family, but always ridden by Tyler's best friend Katie. He is a little rough on Two-Bits, but also a little wise about the world and ready to listen when Two-Bits nightmares wake him up. The girls decide to ride the horses into town, against Tyler's parents specific instructions not to. They figure they won't get caught, but of course Tyler's mom happens to be in town. When confronted, Tyler has a fight with her mom and "runs away" to Katie's because her parents let her down anything she wants. The small town they live in has become the target of two somewhat stupid, but scary pair of brothers who are looking for a rich kid to kidnap for ransom. Tyler and Katie, of course, become the targets of the bungling criminals when they realize they are alone because Katie's parents are on vacation and her big sister is out on a date. When the police can't find them, Two-Bits and Pepper escape to find their beloved riders. It is a dangerous mission, and it will require Two-Bits to confront his greatest fears out of love of his little girl. One side note: I don't know why the company who released this movie to DVD used the cover they did. There is NO black horse in the movie at all! It is also lacking subtitles, which is fairly inexcusable in this day and age.

I thought it was full of adventure and exitment. When I first saw it I was scared the horse was going to die and the girls were going to get kidnapped. I won't tell you what happens though. If you like excitment and adventure buy this book today.

Well, I will start with why I purchased this movie. I like simple films, good values, and no violence. That being said, although it is a simple movie, it really lacks entertainment!
The two girls, although looking completely cute on the cover, really are brats. The one girl doesn't listen to her parents, the other girl shows the first girl how to get away with doing what she wants without "really breaking the rule", the bad guys are fools, and the kids talk to them like they aren't worried at all they have been kidnapped..at the age of 9. At the end, the mother tells the 9 year old she is sorry and needs to start trusting her daughter. Sorry, but if I don't want my kid crossing the highway and she does... AND gets kidnapped... I will still enforce my rule... I just don't like that it is saying even though all the "bad things" happened... a 9 year old knows enough to get herself out of that danger... totally unrealistic and lame. Should I even mention the fact that one girl's parents aren't in the movie because they are on vacation and the 9 year old is left with her sister, who doesn't care what she is doing and the only two scenes she is in are: 1) When she is yelling at her sister as she is getting ready for a date (and tells the 9 yr. old to be in bed by 10:00 and she comes home at 2:30am) and 2) When she arrives home to their house being on fire and that is when she is concerned something happened.... I can't begin to say how much I disliked that part! My twelve year old daughter hated it and she likes horses a lot; she was even pointing out the lame ideas/values shown in this movie. It was not worth the money...and I can't get back the time I wasted. |
