I have owned this set for a little over a year. I would rate it 3.5 stars after careful considerations.
Don't get me wrong, this is very high quality set. From the finish to fit, to its esthetics and proportions, all are indicative of top quality German tools. The edges will hold if you regrind it to >30 degree. I found the factory grind of 25 degree is too shallow for hard steel like this. It will chip on hardwood if you don't increase the bevel angle to >30.
It's true that the back is not "optically" flat. What I mean is that you can still see small ridges in the polished blade. But for someone who's more concerned with their work then the look of the tool, this is absolutely not an issue. I've heard others complained about the flatness, but I bet these are the same people who spend most of the time looking at their tools than using it. I've used it to pare, to dig, to chop mortise. No issues at all. Nada. The back is flat for all practical purposes (meaning used for precision joinery work).
So why 3.5 stars? It's all relative and based on my personal preference. I've compared it against a set of vintage Stanley 750, and the lately reissue of Stanley Sweetheart 750. While there is no discernible difference in the quality of the steel, the balance of the tool feels totally different. The thin and long neck of the two cherry chisels don't feel quite as balanced for most of the tasks. Especially for squaring and cleaning mortise (modern day mortising involves drilling out the wastes, and then squaring with chisels.). It gets tiresome after a while with a tool that's long and top heavy. By contrast the 750 tools (socket chisels) is much more balanced. The handles and the tapered socket feels much more ergonomic.

These are a very fine set of chisels. The handle looks a little funky until you start handling them. Wow! I added a micro edge and found the blades are ground almost perfect. I am very impressed with these.

I've had this set of chisels for many years and when I first got them, flattened the backs for about 2-3 inches, that helped a lot. I started to notice that I seemed to spend lots of time sharpening and maintaining the edge. At the factory angle of 25 degrees it seemed the edge deteriorated quickly. Although I don't usually incorporate a micro bevel I experimented with it on these but no appreciable difference. I reground all of the angles to 30 degrees and the cut is much better and the edge lasts longer. I primarily use them for general bench work and cutting dovetails. I sharpen with water stones only (Norton) and believe in Ron Hock's method of the sharpest edge is two surfaces coming together without a micro bevel. If you have these chisels and feel you're sharpening too much, try changing your angle to 30 degrees and see if that improves them for you too.

I had some reservations spending this kind of money on a set of chisels. I have spent forty plus years wood working and my previous logic was buy a cheap set, beat the snot out of them, sharpen on a grinder and beat them some more, then replace. So my reservations was more about how I treat a tool like this than the tool itself. I am very pleased with my decision to buy these chisels. I love them and they are always sharp and of very high quality.

This is a fine set of chisels. I have used them for nearly a year, honing before and after each use, and am amazed at how well they have held up. They stay sharp throughout the job with only occasional touching up. I anticipate using these chisels for many years to come!

These chisels feel great and are well balanced. They need very little (if any) tune-up out of the box. I found that I was able to work with them right away. A great set of tools for any level of woodworker!

This is my first professional chisel set thus I don't have any comparisons. Having used consumer grade chisels, the two cherries are not even in the same universe.

I know there are many other choices but for the woodworking (fine furniture building) I am doing, they are awesome.

Sharp! Precise! Ergonomically pleasing.

Very happy.
