Looking for electronic chillout tracks? Try this!, September 3, 2000
This review is from: Two A.D.: A Waveform Compilation (Audio CD)
The Waveform label remains one of the great undiscovered secrets within the world of electronic music. These folks have been putting out interesting, intriguing, high-quality ambient-with-a-beat electronic music for over six years now, and yet they remain largely unknown except to a small number of devoted fans (like myself). "Two A.D.," one of a series of three "A.D." best-of-the-label compiliations, was released five years ago, and yet the tracks still sound fresh, appealing, and cutting-edge. Of the various artists included here, the Scandanavian master of ambient techno Biosphere has perhaps become the best known in recent years within the world of electronica. However, just about all of the artists contributing here are masters of their craft in their own right. Some of the highlights of the album include Sounds from the Ground's hypnotic "Triangle," A Positive Life's "Pleidean Communication," and Higher Intelligence Agency's "Tortoise." I would recommend this cd to fans of the "chillout" electronic music that has become so very popular among dance music fans in recent years. People who enjoy Kruder & Dorfmeister in their various projects, The Thievery Corporation, chillout comps like "Om Lounge," and slow trip-hop and ambient music generally should give this cd (and others from Waveform) a try.

Phenomenal! even more dubbed and spaced out than the first., August 26, 1999

This review is from: Two A.D.: A Waveform Compilation (Audio CD)
As much as I absolutely loved One A.D., Two A.D. was even more extrodinary than the first. The feel of this album is very aquatic and bubbly with a very futuristic sound as well. It is the ultimate chill-out, relaxation, trance inducing, mindaltering cd I own yet at the same time maintains a rhythmic flow with mellow beats. Even the cover artwork is mindblowing! This record label WAVEFORM, releases some of the best stuff when it comes to ambient music and if you like this cd you are bound to like most, if not all releases from Waveform. Other cds on that label I would MOST HIGHLEY reccommend if you like this are: One A.D. (volume one Ambient Dub) Three A.D. (volume three Ambient Dub) Ancient Alien (various artists) Slumberland (various artists) Sounds from the Ground "Kin" Loop Guru "Duniya" Loop Guru "Duniya" Higher Intelligence Agency "Colourform" Higher Intelligence Agency "Freefloater" A Positive Life "Synaesthetic" Open Canvas "Nomadic Impressions" Zero One "Zero One" Other compilations not on Waveform but that are very similar to this and which I highley reccommend are: all three "Barramundi" cds the "Logic trance" series (more for if you like the dance/trance aspect of the waveform cds) the "Feed your Head" series "Amberdelic Space" (4-cd boxset)

Probably the Best Ambient Dub Compilation Out There, October 16, 2005
This review is from: Two A.D.: A Waveform Compilation (Audio CD)
This CD was my introduction to Ambient Dub, along with Banco de Gaia's "Last Train To Lhasa" and A Positive Life's "Synaesthetic", and it continues to be my favorite compilations. I have since delved deeply into the Ambient, Ambient Dub, Trance, Dance, and Groove Worlds, amassing quite a collection and still consider this to be one of my best. This is usually the one I lend out if I am trying to introduce some new friend to the music. So, I can definitely recommend this CD to those who are looking to explore something new. You WILL be pleasantly surprised.
The Waveform Label has some of the best artist in the genre, and is not afraid to put their best tracks on the compilation. I have been quite happy with all of Waveform's output, it seems to be run by some pretty groovy cats.
One thing I like about this CD is the integrated feel of the track selection and arrangement. It has a thematic feel, an almost Zen-like perfection to it. I particularly like "Autumn Leaves" a remix of the classic done in the style of Natalie Cole. The star of the album is "The Voyage of the Marie Celeste" which is batting cleanup in the fourth spot. My favorite is "Baby Interphase", an eerily penetrating track by Biosphere. The other tracks are all top shelf, no slackers in the bunch.
The reviewer who described it as "electronic new age background groove" could not be more wrong. Though he gives it 3 stars and calls it good, I find that description of it to be an insult. It is definitely Ambient Dub, and fantastic, deep, and penetrating Ambient Dub at that. It is a must have for any audiophile.
