Our three boys (ages 10, 6, and 4) have loved this book for years. The illustrations are lovely, and - what fun! - Jimmy and Janet prove their mother wrong in the end: cats do, in fact, like to eat dog biscuits. Yes, it is a simple story, but it is genuine and funny and gentle. Bravo, Beverly Cleary and Ann DaSilvo Ryan!

My Pre-K class loves this story. That's why I came to this website so I could buy the book. I lost my old one, and I miss it.

My 3 year old boy/girl twins love this story, I do too. One of the reasons why we like it so much is the realistic behavior and feelings of Janet and Jimmy. Ms. Cleary writes stories that capture the essence of how children see and interact with the world. Everything that happens in this book makes perfect sense to preschoolers. My children still listen to every word and are still thrilled with the ending every time we read it!

Updated 8 years later - this story still sticks with me as one of the best preschooler books for kids who like sophisticated stories about real life, especially dogs. This story prepares the kids for reading literature later in life - a rich glimpse into a family's life, a problem to be solved, and a resolution worthy of pondering later.
