Two brothers Kwame and Romeo were what you'd expect to brothers to be, close. The fact that they were abandoned by their mother and had to be raised by their grandmother the bond between them were even stronger. Growing up in the inner city, where trouble seemed to be around every corner, Kwame was arrested and went to prison for something he didn't do and that not only tore Romeo apart, but he also got to see firsthand, just how the system worked. Faced with that disappointment of his older brother Kwame going to jail didn't stop Romeo from doing his best at what he loved to do and becoming the star quarterback for his high school football team.

After the Kwame's release from prison, things start to look up for the two brothers. They reconnected with their mom Pearl and it seemed things were going to be alright until tragedy strikes again and their mom is brutally attack by some local thugs. Truth begins to unfold and they discover some secrets about their family and they also find out who is truly with them and against them.

Overall all this was an easy read. It had some moments when I was anxious to get to the plot, but for the most part it was worth the wait. It had a lot of funny moments, because these were teens, so you laugh a lot. It did end with a feeling there will be more, but who knows. I did enjoy reading Two the Hard Way!

After Kwame and Romeo's mother abandoned them, they went to live with their grandmother who is affectionately called Nana. Romeo, the youngest of the two, idolized his older brother and when he went to prison for a crime he didn't commit, Romeo's world went to pieces. It was easy to get caught up in the streets, but Romeo focused on being the star quarterback at his high school, hanging out with his militant midget, best friend Amir, and Kwame's pending release.

When Kwame is released from prison, Romeo is happy to have his big brother back home with him. Even their mother starts coming around more often. As they begin to enjoy their lives back together again, their mother is savagely beaten. Not only do they find out the reason for their mother's abandonment, they also find out who wants them all out of the picture.

The remarkable characterization in TWO THE HARD WAY sets the tone in this explosive teen story. From the special bond Kwame and Romeo share, and the love they feel for Nana, to the hilarious "power to the people" Amir, each of these characters will find a place in your heart. The secondary characters add just a touch more spice to a realistic plot of love and survival. Just when I thought the story couldn't get any better, Hunter takes it to another level. I sense a sequel!!

I'm a die hard Travis Hunter fan. Although this book is geared for teenagers, it was very good. Must buy!

I love the book, a good read for our youth and adults. I also love that Priest Dupree showed up to help settle things as well. Good Work Mr. Travis Hunter

This is an author that I always keep an eye open for new releases because his fast-paced, action packed stories never disappoint!

17yo Romeo should have nothing on his mind but which college he should be attending, instead he worries about his 19yo inmate brother not making parole, his beloved Nana's health and money troubles, his mother Pearl who abandoned them and his girl Ngiai finding out he could possibly be a father. Then throw in his loyal & militant best friend Amir, an arsenal toting neighbor, a displaced General and his brother Kwame's friend who possibly set him up and you've got an awesome story to unravel of who to trust, family secrets and the struggle to make it out of the projects in one piece or be swallowed up. I really enjoyed this book and the message that it sends to young people, esp young males. There were a few scenes that were a little preachy but overall it was very enjoyable. I'd highly recommend and can't wait for Travis' next book to come out in Dec. I thought he left us hanging with one of the characters but he read our minds!
