Way to go Missy and Jim. This recent CD by Jim Hurst and Missy Raines shows why the International Bluegrass Music Association has voted Missy Raines Bass Player of the year for the third year in a row and nominated Jim Hurst for Best Guitar Player of the year this year. This project really finds a groove and stays there. To say exactly what kind of music it is I would have to say Americana. There is evidence of country and bluegrass roots, but also some mellow jazz. The whole thing is just the two of them. Missy even sings, which she didn't do on her solo project. Missy is a really good harmony singer and her lead vocals are full of soul. Jim's voice has that warm, down home, soul touching resonance that makes me play this CD over and over.

The Above Samples Do Not Do These 2 Justice.,

I first heard Jim & Missy Saturday, Nov 9, 2002 on PBS's Jubilee. The above reveiw is right on the money. She is the most unique and interesting base player I have heard. She is very fast, rythmic and melodic, and includes the melody from time to time. Excellent!!. Jim is an incredible guitar player and also has his own unique style of playing which really does not come through on the little samples above. He is very smooth with the possible exception of when he is pushing his skills to there limit, but 99.9% of the people will not notice a thing and the other .1% probably will not care as it doesn't detract from the song. The two have a soft rich harmoney making them very easy to listen to. Especially on those songs that have a sensitivity that will make you stop and think. Their music is hard to put in a category but if you like Easy bluegrass, or Soft Light Jazz or Easy Listening or Rythmic Guitar and/or Base Intrumentals or Country, you will almost assuredly enjoy Jim and Missy.

This is a great CD with a mix of Country sounding and Jazz. They make a super duo. I was looking for more of their music to add to my collection.
