5.0 out of 5 stars Review - The Two Moons by James P. Hogan
These are very good stories by my favorite science fiction author.
Little did I know that this book is a combination of two books I have had for many years from Hogan's earlier works "Inherit the Stars" and "The Gentle Giants of Ganymede".

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a new book!!!
James P. Hogan is my favorite SF author and Inherit the Stars is one of the best SF books ever written. I was excited to see a 'new' book in the Giants series offered on Amazon. However, THIS BOOK IS NOTHING BUT THE FIRST TWO GIANTS NOVELS re-released in a single cover with a new title and a new copyright date.

If you haven't read the Giants Novels by all...

5.0 out of 5 stars Back in Print!!!, August 20, 2006

This review is from: The Two Moons: Inherit the Stars / The Gentle Giants of Ganymede (Giants) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was sooooooo happy to find this reprint: I would not have to damage the 1st edition paperback of this novel by reading it, risking breaking the spine.

And what a great story -- I agree with the first review posted (by SF Fan "RO"): "Inherit the Stars is one of the best SF books ever written..... If you haven't read the Giants Novels by all means buy this book."

Why SF Fan "RO" had to dis the reprint escapes me. I feel his disappointment yet know that large sales of this novel would bring additional reprints which would further the appreciation of James P. Hogan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great "Hard" Science Fiction, August 20, 2011
By
This review is from: The Two Moons: Inherit the Stars / The Gentle Giants of Ganymede (Giants) (Mass Market Paperback)
Great to see these two excellent books offered again. I read Inherit the Stars when it first came out in paperback long ago, and then its sequel, Gentle Giants of Ganymede. The third in the Giants series did not quite measure up to these two. I read both of these books multiple times and always recommended them to others, but both of them were lost in various moves. It's good to be able to get them again in one volume. This is hard science fiction and not the fantasy/science fiction that became so popular later, that even Hogan moved toward.

I did not check the copyright date, but Inherit the Stars must have come out around thirty years ago. Even so, the last scene in the book has been indelibly etched in my mind ever since. Great science fiction.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Two Moons: Inherit the Stars / The Gentle Giants of Ganymede (Giants) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this based on the rave reviews, and while I won't go as far as to say I was disappointed, I will say it was something of a let-down. The 1st book starts out well enough, but slows to a crawl and is mired in too much technical drivel. Also keep in mind it is not a new book but a combining of 2 previously published books from some time ago. I struggled to get through it, I kept falling asleep.
